Well fellas, I figured I'd start having all the 100k mile problems and sure enough in the 1000 miles since I hit it, I have a broken clutch pedal bracket, a bad coolant reservoir level sensor, a cracked radiator end tank and oil lines seeping through corrosion. Yippie. The wife's BRZ is looking better everyday. Anybody want a project car?

Aaaand 8,200 miles after purchase...





Original motor still going great mostly thanks to the original owner. Hopefully getting a sohn adapter on there soon to give it the good stuff.

Well,that's it for me guys. I have traded in my RX8 on a boring family car to carry kids, dogs and stuff. Hit 181,500km today still on original engine and clutch. Best of luck to the next happy owner.

Now at 123,XXX miles! Only issues the car has had since new is needing a new alternator (fixed), roof leaked (fixed), and trunk leak around taillight (fixed). Still runs like new! Original motor, clutch, etc. Everything but the battery, alternator, and tires!

BTW, do you recommend to switch from 5w20 to thicker grade as your RX8 aging? I typically do oil change every 5k-miles.

Definitely! I use 10w 40. nycgps's thread about the 100k mile teardown of Expo1's (RIP) engine convinced me pretty quick. It's a great thread with lots of pictures and explanations. Well worth the time to read through. https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tec...-motor-138402/

PA Finally made it !!

Oh yeah! Just hit 100k this weekend ! !
It's still running GREAT
......had 2 replace the CAT @ 70k & the clutch @ 85k (probably normal wear&tear 4 me

Sorry if someone else already asked in this thread. Is there any thread listing all recommended things to check/replace at 100k? I was told things could deteriorate pretty fast after 100k...

In the new owner's thread, under the section: "I bought it, what things should I do first" (or something like that). I should make an actual maintenance schedule though.

I just hit 144300... and then an apex seal blew and it hosed the housing... now I might just have to part it out because it will cost as much as it is worth to fix

@ 156,000+ miles... I need a new motor. so if any one is knows of a good place and cheap I would like to get a used one so I can sale my RX8 and get a new car I drive to easy for the RX8. I live in Kentucky.

my 2004 rx8 has a little over 28,000 miles. no, it's not my daily driver or winter or rain driver for that matter. glad to see many more rx8's with mega miles. mine will be there someday.

I had to replace my original engine at about 145k miles because of an internal coolant leak. I sourced a very good salvaged engine from a company called LKQ (Like Kind Quality). OEM Recycled, New Aftermarket, & Reman Parts - Cars, Trucks, and HD

Because they focus on "like kind quality" replacement parts and offer a short warrantee with them they tend to only have newer things in stock. I don't know if they have any now or what they would price them at now, but I got a complete engine for a little over $2000. When I say "complete", I mean complete. It was intake to oil pan complete right down to the spark plugs and wires. All I had to do was drop it in the car and literally just plug it in to the old wiring harness on my car and it started right up. I've put about 57k miles on it so far and all is well.

So i just hit 120k and the car feels better than ever on Bilstein B8 shocks and RB springs i just put on....

but...

my passenger side motor mount just went out in celebration :-)
