Thumbs up

FYI,
That oil filter pedestal will not work in the 8's chassis.
Engine looks good!
Let me know if you need some assistance.

I'm not using that particular pedestal but was planning on using an FFE pedestal with a remote oil filter. Why doesn't it fit? Firewall clearance? Also what was your solution?

The FD pedestal puts the filter under the lip of the firewall....there isn't even close to enough room there.

I made a billet adapter for mine...but there are options out there pre-made

I think FFE has one? They have nice stuff...I am using there primary and secondary fuel rails...and they are works of art

Yeah as long as a remote mount adapter can fit in there it'll be fine. It's like less than half the height of an oil filter. If it just barely doesn't clear then I'll have an excuse to hit my car with a sledge hammer. Good times.

I was just on their website and didn't see anything related to that on there.

They just finished prototyping it, the first batch is being produced right now. It's not on the website yet.

Here's a picture of one of the 3D printed pieces they were test fitting, the picture is on their Facebook page.

I don't think it will solve a whole lot for clearance issues in my case but I'll find out soon enough.

You need something about 1.5" high. ... no room for the filter there. . You will need a remote mount filter

This block is designed to facilitate the installation of a remote oil filter assembly. Machined from aluminum-alloy with an internal passage that eliminates the need for the stock oil filter, this component is very popular for customized engine and racing applications @ $76/each

Have you had a go at cutting weight out of your car yet? I.e removing any of the unwanted inner skin?

I saw in a couple other threads that people are using a modified RX-8 pedestal with a remote filter and it fits. I will just do that since I already have an RX-8 pedestal.

Yeah I've cut out some of the back stuff that used to hold up the seats, all the extra brackets along the trans tunnel, a couple other things. Nothing too serious yet. I was thinking of cutting out the speaker deck but I'm undecided on that one as of yet.

^If I decide to ditch the rear seats in mine, I'll probably do the same. I can count on one hand how many times I've had more than one passenger in my car in the 1.5 years I've owned it lol.

Watch the fitment of this...the hole pattern is different slightly and the RX-8 pedestal likely will leak

LOL.....always interesting problems

Spend 4 hrs modifying my RX-8 one..and then an hour to re-re it when it leaked.

Surprisingly it took me less than an hour to make a custom billet one like the Mazdatrix one....and it works like a champ.

Nope, still waiting on dry sump stuff unfortunately...

For some reason I've stopped getting emails for my thread even though I'm subscribed to it... sorry for the late reply.

Lame. I'll see what the deal is... I would really like to run the filter in the same order as the stock oiling system.

Good news is that I figured out what I will do if the stock transmission blows up. Trying to figure out how to get a T56 in the car without having to switch to an automatic FD rear iron and bellhousing was proving to be pretty much impossible.

And I stumbled upon this:

So the parts list for getting that set up on an RX-8...

(This would work for a Renesis as well)

GForce T5 Close Ratio Dog Box
Remote Shifter
FD RX7 Manual Bellhousing
FD RX7 Manual Starter
Kennedy Eng Inc. adapter plate kit. Comes with hardware and pilot bearing.
Custom Driveshaft
Fabricate trans and diff mounts (no more PPF)
Tilton 6000 Series Hydraulic Throwout Bearing for T5 with appropriate bearing diameter
5.5" Clutch with Ford splined discs and appropriate flywheel/counterweight

Bonus, it is like 50 pounds lighter than a faceplated T56 setup, and about half the price, and way easier to service and rebuild on your own. Plus I don't have to rebuild the motor with a different rear iron and all that other BS.

Here is another video before he got the remote shifter installed, this one is just an L shaped extension on the shifter.

I want a dog box so effing bad so I can just row gears with ignition cut flat shift. Just tap the clutch pedal enough to get it to cut ignition and rip the next gear... don't even have to disengage all the way ha.

What's so bad about it?

The only thing that would be the same as a normal T5 is... maybe the output shaft. That's it. The GForce is their own case, own gears, own faceplate dogtooth engagement, etc etc.

The GForce T5 seems pretty cool!! Would be great for your application for sure...How much heavier than the stock RX8 trans is it?

Well a stock T5 weighs in right at 72lbs. I don't know how much an RX8 trans weighs but I've moved one around in a shop before and I want to say that the RX8 trans felt like about 60lbs.

The S1 is lighter than I originally reported. Recently shipped one @ 77 lbs including some heavy packing/boxing. Theres a picture of an S2 trans weighing 95ish scaled on the forum.

Your weight doesn't take into account how you intend to handle the trans/PPF/diff support issue.
