I'd be interested in seeing your direct EGT comparison data between the two.

Sorry, didn't see this post right away.

I don't think I have any data that will satisfy you, for direct comparison between 8374 and 9180.

What I do know is a car that was tuned here, first with a GT4088 1.06A/R twin scroll turbine housing (which is larger than an 8374 hot side), then with an S366 1.10A/R twin scroll housing, (which is about the same size as an EFR 9180) and his EGT dropped about 150 degrees, even though he was making about 60WHP more at the same amount of boost. From that trend I would think that the 8374 (which is even smaller than a GT4088) would be maybe a 200 degree difference in EGT vs. the 9180? Just a best guess, but larger and more free flowing turbine setups typically have less exhaust manifold pressure and lower EGT.

But going back to the flat horsepower curve thing and how large the plateau is, that makes sense though right? The 9180 is still going to be a very responsive turbo despite it's size. Plus having the larger turbo leaves the door open for more power in case I need it for GTA. Everyone in Limited and Unlimited RWD seem to be in the 500-650 range power wise, but what do I know since most teams don't disclose their power figures. I guess I'll find out eventually.

Alright, picked up some stuff from some local companies that are helping out with my build tremendously and also got some necessary parts from Mazdaspeed Motorsports so I can put the engine in and start mocking stuff up. Hoping to get the engine dressed up and ready for initial install tomorrow.

Full Function Engineering goodies, two Bosch 044's, and Xcessive LIM.

The Xcessive LIM is going to take some work... for a $500+ dollar piece it looked like a 5 year old cleaned everything up with a dremel... also if anyone gets one of these, clean it out. There's a ton of metal shavings in it...

On the other hand, all the Full Function parts are immaculate and are well thought out and high quality. Can't wait to try it out.

Some brand new Injector Dynamics ID1300's fresh off the flow bench. Decided to be safe and get a little bit bigger injectors. The ID1300 is also their best injector for alternative fuels, as it has all stainless steel internals and was made with alternative fuels in mind.

Some miscellaneous hardware that I'll need to put stuff on the motor. Also a stock oil pan for now, so that I can put the engine in and mock it up. I will be able to put the dry sump in later, I'll be able to change it with the engine still in the car anyways.

Rotary Works 90mm TB. Did a lot of reading and decided to get it anyways since I don't have a throttle body. I'm going to take it apart and seal it a bit better.

I guess they didn't like your post about this Frankenstein RX-8's section cause it got locked up.

Have you mock up the manifold yet?

.

Yeah I guess not haha. Everyone knows the name of the forum sucks, I don't know why the mods have such a hard on for it.

I wasn't planning on doing that until the engine is in the car. I wouldn't be doing it myself anyways, I don't have a welder yet, and even if I did I don't trust myself to build a manifold with no experience lol.

Both good decisions. I use to do a lot of welding and was regretting mine when trying to make it fit, but its almost done so its all good. Low mount or top mount?

It would have been nice to have a engine to build against then test fit it on the engine in the car.

It's going to be mounted where you see most big turbo single kits in FD's. Probably right around here in relation to the motor.

If when you say you want to seal the throttle body, do you mean between the butterfly and housing ?. If so, do not do it.

lol really...

I was talking about the shaft bearings. Seems to be hit or miss with this unit and boost leaks at the shaft.

have you talked to Geoff at full-race... hes like the king of EFR turbos. Anyways with your displacement and that turbo you should be good for 850whp++ i think you would have a better power band with the 7670 and easily hit your goal of 550whp and egt ... especially with e-85

The 9180 is about a 620ish whp turbo on a 2 rotor and it is about a 50hp bump across the power band from the 366

Yeah I've talked to Geoff before, he's got a lot of good info on these units.

On the other hand I have no idea where you got that number from. A 7670 is like a 450whp turbo. The 8374 is like 600 but at probably 30PSI. Pretty high strung. The 9180 I think could go 700 to 750 range. I know of a car here that has an S366 and made 610 at 26PSI on E85 with a streetport. The response on the 9180 will still be good and is easier on the motor.

you are right i assumed(*** out of myself) that the 13b would make the same or more than a piston engine. apparently 13b makes a lot less power

Common Mistake. Airflow is much different through a rotary. ..

Yeah no worries, a lot of people do that so don't feel bad. The rule of thumb to get a general idea of power output for a turbo is to take the horsepower rating for a piston engine and divide by 1.3. So the EFR 9180 would be 1000/1.3 = 769BHP.

And the 9180 would be hard pressed to get to 1000HP efficiently at the best of scenarios ;-)

Yeah no doubt about that. The Tilton evo did it though. Something like 920WHP range around 45PSI if I remember right. So should be right around the 1000hp at the flywheel mark.

Really interested in how you're going to route the throttle cable. My build has taken a similar turn (deleting the stock ecu altogether, going with an FD throttle body, AIM dash, etc.)

So are you building a track car now or do you not have emissions where you live?

I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. I might try to make the FD pedal and cable work but I might get a more race oriented pedal box unit.

This is a page that some of my track buddies and I have, any likes would be highly appreciated and will help me with the build if I can increase exposure to the project.

Thank you for your time.
