reguardless, for a fully loaded 04, it sure sounds like you got your hands on a really nice 8! Since it's used, you don't need to go through the break-in period so get out there and enjoy it!

I got my 2006 Shinka with all the add ons I wanted (Almost all of them) Rotary accent, Front Air Dam, Chrome airvent and windows switches, Fender Strakes, etc. it had 10 miles on it when I test drove it. I paid 33,800 and change before taxes, title and license. They had a 2006 (non Shinka) tagged for the about same price with the GT Pkg. I paid cash so that helped talk them down a few thousand from what they wanted. They initially wanted $38K and change.

holy crap...i know that's a shinka and all, but that's A LOT of money for an 8. You'd be well ove 40K by the time tax and title come through! Good call talkin that down...heck you'd have almost been in the next class of cars for that money.

What should I offer?

2005 GT MT with about 11.6K miles asking $20K. Bought Nov. 05. Stock with MS rear bumper, but no spoiler or other options. Original owner with service records. The two front tires are below 50% tread.

Said the Mazda dealer near him offered $18K. Should I offer $19K?

My 2006 Shinka was $32800 fully loaded with wing before taxes and title also. The most expensive Shinka I've ever seen fully loaded with Wing was $34880 MSRP. There is no more expensive model that I know of...

i traded in my AT silver 8 with 22,000 miles for a brand new MT white one and i paid a $5,000 different. i think it was a pretty good deal!

How do you like the pearl white with the red interior? I was thinking about it but I thouht it would be too agressive looking.

I need some help, and hopefully ya'll could help me. I live on Long Island and I'm 21. I want an rx8 pearl white, black/black and red leather interior, nav system, with the grand touring package, and the spare tire. Ultimately it comes out to $36k, $36k which I don't have. But if I wait a year I can save up about $10k and I'll be taken seriously for the rx8.

I already have a body kit and I've built the ultimate rx8 in my head (haha). I'm totally set on it. But at the same time it'd be letting go of my 240sx, my money for the next 6 years. And on top of that I'm not even sure how much the insurance will be. And I'm reading on here that everyone's paying in the low $20's and that seems like a much more obtainable price than $36k. Is everyone going to a used Mazda dealership? Or how do I get the price down to $23k? Is it normal to bargain with the price of a new Mazda? (haha)

I've also heard bad transmission problems, and I'm sure it just that it's a mass produced car so one out of 100 will probably come out the runt. How do I know if I've got a good car on my hands? *please help* :/

I’ve found that a lot of dealers don’t want to deal all that much on RX-8’s compared to other cars I’ve purchased. My best deal so far is a 2006 Copper Red Shinka with Aero, Accent, Spoiler and cargo net for $29,950 including all dealer fees (includes the $1,500 in customer cash, not using the $500 in MAC incentive because the rate sucks). Now if I cold just sell my car I’d go and get it, dealers keep low-balling be on the trade as expected.

Tonkasat: You didn't seriously go out and buy a bodykit before you even own the car, did you? Personally I think the differences between Sport, Touring,& GT packages are fairly minimal. I don't move my seat so power seats are superfluous, I actually prefer these cloth seats to leather (back sweat, ew), I think the base stereo is just fine, and while heated seats, moonroof, and a few extra goodies might be neat, it's not worth the extra cost to me.

My dream car may be a Ford GT 500, but if it's not in my budget, then I'm not going to spend 75% of my monthly income on a car and eat mac & cheese every day and live in a cardboard box just because I'm not willing to compromise with reality. Because I realistically knew what my budget could handle, I bought mine new and didn't really have to haggle with my salesman. Your experience may vary. He even showed me their invoice that they paid for the car and we worked up from there.

Insurance will be quite a bit more than your 240SX, though it will probably be in line with what you would pay for any other new 4-door "sedan". Always always always get quotes in advance. Also submit some auto loan requests to your bank and some other lenders *before* signing any paperwork, you need to go into "negotiations" with some realistic numbers about what your APR would be for financing. Rule #1 is consider the overall final price that you will pay over the course of the loan, monthly payment must always be considered second.

Just make sure you approach this purchase with a logical mind and don't let emotion take over, even though it is a fun car to drive. Don't get yourself into a 60-month lease or 80-month loan just so you can barely afford the car payments each month.

Endor: What color is your 8? I'm in Ann Arbor too and was following Sesi Mazda's inventory for a while. If I see your 8 on the road some day I might flag you down from my Burnt Copper Escape. =)

Related to your disbelief that Tonkasat bought a body kit without having an 8, I also can hardly believe that I've spent almost $2K on aftermarket accessories and I don't have one yet either!

MSRP: $35,650 (sticker new) Purchased used with 7,330 miles on it.
Price paid: $21,000 before tax and dealer fees ($22,900 after)
Model Year: 2004 black with black/red leather
Model: 6MT
Options: GT package, navigation, appearance package, spare tire kit, rotary accent package, fender strakes, rear wing, 6 disk cd
Date of Purchase: 7/14/06
Location: Buffalo, NY
Financed/Purchase: Purchased
New/ Used: Used

I got my car back in July from a used car dealership. They were originally asking $25k which was way too much seeing that a lot of you got NEW cars for that much or even less. I was able to talk them down to $21k which I though was reasonable seeing the car only had 7,330 miles on it and had all the options I was looking for. I am very happy with the car and am happy that there is a resource such as rx8club to meet other owners.

Helpful additional information-

MSRP: 34,819 including destination
How you did it: Internet everything!
Comments: RX8 has been the hardest car yet for me to get a good deal on, dealers really didn't want to offer great prices. I got $200 below invoice to 700 over.

Final Price: $25593(out-the-door) on paperwork, see below
Model Year: 2006
Model (AT/MT): MT
Options: Base + spoiler
Date of purchase (month/year): 08/06
Financed/Cash purchase: $3,000 down, $7,819 financed.
Interest rate (if relevant): rediculous, MAC
New/Used: New
MSRP: $26995+ (before Tax, Licence, etc.)
Dealer Sticker: 27593

The initial dealer offer was 23995 and with trade-in I would pay 11500. Got that to 10000 and had them throw in the spoiler a $360 option. Tax is low due to difference in trade-in and the initial trade-in value is what I got from other dealers. 23995 - 1500 - 360, so you might say I got it for $22135. Hard to tell.

I went with the MAC financing even though I find the rate outrageous. I figure on paper that if I refi after 3 months with my credit union that in the long run I save $600. Who know, if I get a bonus at work, I might just pay it off. I liked not having car payments.
