Not really

the dealership i bought mine from didnt have a single titanium in stock at all but they traded one with another dealer who had one. You can look up the whole mazda inventory online and find the one you want there including the VIN number.

Beware if a dealer tells you that there aren't any more models like you're looking for in a given area. I asked my deal to look for Green M/Ts with the GT package, they flat out told me that there were only two others in the whole state of Texas. This is likely true to the extent that they only had access to two for trade, but I spoke with three other dealers that had Greens with the GT package and M/T.

They will do everything to keep you there. Dealers will play stupid -- very, very stupid -- to avoid answering a question they don't want to or to lead you into their bank account.

Cheers

I'm sure they do that, yes.

But still, I did look on the Mazda website, and there are only 2 cars that are anywhere close to what I want, and that is in a 100 mile radius in So. Cal. so I will probably wind up having to order one.

I would assume that I am not as likely to get as good a deal if I have to order one vs. taking from dealer stock?

Prolly not as that wouldnt count for that months numbers i would think. But they do not fly off the lots either. I would say getting 500 below invoice should be possible either way.

What are you looking for ? Dont forget that lots of the accessories can and will be added at a later date

Also dont forget that the equipment shown on the web does not include dealer added options so the equipment may look a little different than on the web.

If you need a spoiler or accent or appearance package these can be added by the dealer also.

I am a bit picky in what I want, and that's the problem.

I definitely will be adding the Mazdaspeed body kit and spoiler. As such, I don't want to pay for the appearance package or rear spoiler. However, the rear spoiler is only around $300, so I could accept it if I had to.

But, I also have to have the NAV system (can't be installed later) the car must be Velocity Red (made that decision at Sevenstock) and have leather seats (prefer black but red/black is ok).

It also must be a six speed.

This car basically doesn't exist in Southern California. The only ones that come close have all the other stuff that I don't want (appearance package, CD changer etc.)

i understand. I didnt really care for the stock spoiler either but had no choice really. I am thinking about replacing it with the MazdaSpeed one too.

good luck on finding what you want or at least something close. You may be able to sell the appearance package to someone else after replacing it with MS.

The best advice I can give is:
1) Never give the impression that you are picky until they've run through some stock. Push towards what you're looking for, but if they smell pickyness, they'll hold it against you, knowing you'll be hard pressed to go somewhere else. Always have a first and second color choice, etc., and let them know in no uncertain terms that you're shopping around and are looking for the best deal on a car that seems reasonable. If they have what you want, close in, if not, call someone else, but it is worth taking the time to ask for details on more inventory than you're interested in, in my opinion.
2) Find a dealer that wants to push stock. Out of the four deals I've come to a price on (verbal but started negotiating with a buyers order) the worst I've done is 500 under invoice and I could have pushed for accessories and free service I'm sure. The ones who want to push stock will be willing to go pretty damn low, especially on cars that have been sitting on lot for a while.
3) DO THE NUMBERS! Determine invoice, figure out any dealer cash (I've been told $1000 by two managers, $1500 by a salesman) and crunch numbers. How much is MSRP? Invoice? What's the dealer's break-even cost with dealer cash and other dealer fees? What are all these numbers + Tax? Plus TT&L? Call a dealer, get the buyer's order faxed to you, hang up and do the numbers, call them back, then start out low! Personally I generally offered about $500-$1000 below dealer break-even (crazy as it sounds) hoping that they would settle for a slight loss on the car (I wanted Green, fairly uncommon). Every time either immediately or after one round of back-and-forth on price the sales manager called me. One manager got somewhat short with me and hung up after a tart "Thank you kindly" (HIS boss called me later that day :D). These folks are paid to deal with customers who bargain hard and as many lies as I got I imagine play on your emotions as well (audiably frustrated on the phone, etc.). Don't let it phase you, if they don't want to deal it's their choice to say thanks, call us if you want to talk more.

In regards to counting a unit as a sale if they have to trade for it, I dont' see why they wouldn't. The deal I'm hopefully signing this week (~$1200 under invoice -- we'll see) is on a trade. The car is still theirs when they sell it and when they trade it comes back to their lot all the same; if you don't buy, it stays on their lot until someone does. It's their car.

To keep on topic (sorry!) I'm hopefully signing tomorrow for a brand new M/T with GT, Appearance, Rotary accent and spoiler + door kick plates for $30.9 walk-out. Not including the kick plates that's $1115 below invoice. I'll post when (if) the papers are signed with no problems.

Cheers

Just got back from signing on my new RX-8 and taking a little joyride.

Nordic Green RX-8, six speed, GT, appearance package, spoiler, rotary accent package
Build date 6/04, 277 miles (18 to start, it was a dealer trade, they had to drive it from another city)
Invoice: $30081 (not including kick-plates they threw in; worth maybe $60-$120 invoice to them?)
Price paid: $28850
Total walk-out: Just a bit over $30.9 (paid $200 for tire & rim warranty addition but nothing else)

Hope this price helps you folks. I imagine if you push, $1.5k under invoice should be possible for most folks. I was told by three different people at three different dealerships that they're receiving $1000 in dealer cash for the RX-8, so take that into account.

Cheers!

Picked mine up a week ago

I just picked my RX-8 last week.....had nine miles on it when i got it...here are the specs.

-Winning Blue, GT, Appearance Package, Rotary Accents, Rear Wing Spoiler.

I paid invoice which was 29,791, then got 500 off for being a recent grad.

After tax and all that jazz pd about 31. Sweet car, I drove a mercury tracer before this and I just can't get used to everyone staring at it. Seems like anytime I go out into a parking lot someone is standing over it admiring.

Also, I haven't seen a single blue one on the road (Madison, WI).
