What have you paid for your new 8?
#26
6MT base: $24,659
GT: $3,441
Destination: $520
If you want full option pricing, head over to edmunds.com and enter all the options you want, it'll show you invoice pricing.
Ignore the "what others are paying" section, it's bullshit.

If you shop around your bound to find a good deal, I'm just curious as to how many dealers really have base models. Remember you will be able to get the best deal on the model/type that they have the most of, or have not been able to sell.

If it were so easy to buy a car at invoice price, why would dealers even bother selling new cars? This thread makes it seem like anyone can talk a dealer into giving them a car for just a little over invoice price, which is complete BS unless you are one hell of a negotiator and are willing to walk out on a deal in a second, or know someone at a dealership. At the time I bought my RX-8 back in October, (GT, appearance package, rear spoiler, and rotary accents) none of the dealerships in the Detroit area would come even close to invoice price. I ended up paying $31,500 ($1000 off MSRP). Could I have talked them down a little bit? Maybe, but I know there's no way I could have come close to invoice.
*Note: I actually qualify for S-plan as a Ford employee, but I jumped the gun and bought it 2 weeks before S-plan sales of the RX-8 were authorized. At the time, no one knew when S-plan would be offered.

When I walked into the dealerships, I had similar experiences to what you describe, they didn't offer me very good deals and were pushy. The result is, I will shop online from now on.

Bought mine last Thursday 7/22. $31230 Invoice, got mine for $30407.. $823 under invoice... Not bad, I think. Never set foot in the showroom. Faxed 27 dealers and let 'em duke it out.

fighting chance? I was thinking about doing the very same thing this week. 27 dealers though? How many calls did you get back and did you try to negotiate with a local dealer with your quotes?

Yep! DO it! Well worth the 35 bux! I will never step foot into another showroom (aka den of thieves). 16 dealers responded. I live near Atlanta and did fax all my local guys too. The best price came from a Mazda of Knoxville (your welcome for the plug) 150 miles away.
No one locally came close... until yesterday. My local guy came in 2 bux over the knoxville offer but I had already given out my credit card number as a deposit.
I could have called it off with knoxville, but didn't feel that was right. It's too bad that my local guy took almost a week to respond..You snooze...
If you use the "fax Attack" make sure you wait longer than I did before committing. I could have saved myself a trip ... But then again, a nice ride home with my new RX-8 through the Blue Ridge Mountains... Couldnt be more sweeter!
If you have any more questions, lemme know.

i've had this package recommended to me so I already purchased it, and I fully intend on using it but I admit i'm a little skeptical.
I plan on buying Friday of this week and I'll send out the faxes Tuesday. I was planning on omitting one of my local dealers and then taking my best quote to the girl that I've test drove with. Hopefully she'll beat the best price and I don't have to travel hours away to get the car.
Did dealers call you with many various configurations? I'm a little worried about not being able to compare apples to applles so to speak. Especially since I included the fact that I could be flexible in package choice.
Also, did you have any problems getting the names and fax numbers for the sales/fleet manager?

No probs getting fax nos. or names... The receptionist usually just rattles it off , (like they do it alot)
Dealers are dealers.. Since my fax said I was "flexible" they tried to sell me just about everything. I initially tried to write down their offers on the fax receipts , but this proved unmanageable. I set up a spreadsheet with their offers I added all the invoice prices from the options the cars they quoted didn't have. My "virtual price" including their offers plus option costs that I would have to "purchase" to get one car up to another car. This really helped making apples outta oranges. I think this is a must cuz information overload was a little overwhelming.
Once you see the list it makes it easier to cross off those cars with unacceptable differences (i.e color, no nav, etc).
About the pkg, I followed it pretty much exactly with yes, a little skepticism, too. But the pkg was right. Also, I called Bragg directly and he was more than helpful in answering my questions too. That was a nice personal touch you dont get much of these days.
Since my local dealer was the slowest to respond to my fax, my suggestion is to give them just as much time as everyone else to play.
It was certainly profitable. I saved mega time (and aggravation) not driving around to all the dealers in my area (which would have been far more than the 150 miles I have to go to get the car)
I wrestled with the best offer , cuz while it had all the options I wanted, it was Yellow and I wated Red. So after I reported the lowest offer to all participants, I called the knoxville dealer with the yellow car and said, "i'd like to buy your car cuz it is the lowest price I have found, but I really had my heart set on a different one" He said, "what do you want, I'll go get it." I thought yeah, right here we go , he's gonna jack up the price.
Searching Mazdausa.com I only found 1 car within 150 mile radius w/ equipment and color like I wanted. (Alabama)
Fighting chance said never to have a dealer get a car for you, but.... Knoxville actually got the car from the Alabama dealer (that was one of my initial contacts). The Alabama dealer quoted me the exact car for 1400 more. I did have to pay for flat bedding the car (450) from Alabama to Tennessee, but I still benefitted over 800 by having the dealer "go get the car". Very cool . Actually, my local dealer quoted the same car also for 300 OVER invoice. You know, Ill drive 150 miles to save 800 any day.

WOW. I had a feeling these cars would be going for well below invoice. That may be great for current and near future 04 rx8 buyers, but it's a bad sign for the rx8 and it's future. Dealers are getting desparate, and mazda really needs to cut down production on the 05 model big time to prevent this from happening again. I personally couldn't hold off until summer, so in Feburary I got mine but I only paid $100 over invoice, so for that time, it was as good of a deal as you could have gotten. Nice job, and you people waiting for the 05 model to come out, i suggest you buy an 04, because you'll probably never see steals like this.

Got my Sunlight Silver Sport Package with Navigation for $25,040. MSRP was just under $31k. I think it was a good deal, but I agree with VikingDJ, it's a little concerning how cheap they are letting them go! I also noticed that my dealer has about 12 RX-8s in stock as of yesterday... also not a good sign, I think.
But, honestly, it is a very tough job to really advertise just how great this little car really is - until you drive one. Most people who compliment my car have never seen (or at least noticed) one before. Practically all of them are amazed there are 4 doors too. And, everyone who has driven my car simply falls in love with it... Perhaps Mazda should hold a "Come Drive One" event for those shopping the S-2000, 350Z, WRX crowd?

Looks like I paid the lowest out the door price here: $25,250.25.
Total.
No tax.
The $50.25 was for Washington State registration. Of course the car was base model M/T. I don't need all the accents and navi... and other stuff. This car has more features on the base model than most cars do fully loaded.

I hear all these stories of people talking about getting their 8's at invoice, or a couple hundred over, and some even below invoice.
I go on Edmunds, and the TMV here in SoCal is about $1500.00 over invoice!
So, what is a reasonable amount over invoice to pay for an 8? I always thought you were getting a GREAT deal if you could purchase a new car for $500.00 over invoice.
Will the dealers be as willing to negotiate when it comes to the '05's as the 04's?

Picking up mine tomorrow morning. Yellow 6-speed with GT, appearance package, rear spoiler, spare tire - paying about $250 over invoice. I started car shopping online with the intentions of buying a Mustang Mach 1. I didn't want to spend too much but made the mistake of test driving an RX-8 since there is a dealer just a few miles from my house. Now I'm hooked. The 305 hp of the Mach 1 would have had a bit more muscle but the RX-8 was so fun to drive - reminded me of the 300ZX turbo I had in high school but faster, more sporty looking and it had a true sports car feel to it when I drove it.

My dealer "says" he will do 1500 down and 318/month out the door 4yr/48kmi on a manual GT w spoiler. or 0 down and $299/month same lease terms for a Sport Package manual w spoiler. Anyone know what proof they want for a college grade credit?

Hey cooklaw does that 3 year lease deal include all taxes?I ask because I got around that same price on my base 6 speed for a 2 year lease(actually $309 a month).I had to pay a acqisition fee, first payment, security, and plate fees(all about $1200).My payment includes sales tax each month, and excise tax(road use tax in my town) spread out over the entire term.

Just picked up my 8 on Thurs.
Red A/T, Grand Touring Pkg, Spoiler.
It had 5200 miles on from a prevous owner who drove it for a few months and then didn't like the payments.
Sticker was 32K+
I bought it for 24700.

If your rx-8 has any options you SHOULD be able to pay below invoice, period!
Keep in mind ALL options are marked up 100+%
So a $4000 GT opt is really worth < $2000
Don’t forget dealer the holdback ($1054) base model minimum
So conservatively figure the dealer 6MT cost to be no more than $26,035
Base invoice $24,569
Less -$1054
GT option +2000
Destination +520

That sounds great, but how can you say that the GT package only costs them $2000? The invoice price is listed at $3441.00. Mazda's holdback is 2% of the base MSRP, which would be $533.60, not $1054. Try a google search and you can get that information.
