Most outrageous BS lines from salesman/sales manager.

I thought it might be funny to see what some salesmen and/or sales managers will say while attempting to make a sale or while negotiating price. Here are some lines from my experience last October at Livonia Mazda (I strongly urge you not to take your business to this crooked dealership).

The following quotes are not exaggerated.

Saleswoman:
"Oh, I guarantee you that S-plan will never be offered on the RX-8." (2 weeks later, Ford authorized S-plan sales of the car)

"No one is selling these cars for less than sticker price. There's no room for negotiation."

"This car has the 6-disk changer." (during test drive... of course it was single disk)

Sales manager:
"Don't worry about winter, the car is front-wheel-drive." (upon being asked about winter performance).

"Oh is it really rear-wheel-drive? Oh yeah, you're right. Don't know what I was thinking. But don't worry, the Mazda engineers designed this car with winter in mind. You'll be fine." (no mention of winter tires)

On top of all this, they failed to inform me about any of the unique requirements of the rotary engine, including oil consumption during normal usage and the possibility of flooding after cold shut-offs. When I confronted the dealership management about my experience (especially about the blatant lies regarding pricing), they would do nothing to compensate me, even though the saleswoman admitted making unsubstantiated claims. Not even a measley free oil change. I went all the way up through the owner of the dealership, who was a complete a$$. Mazda North America told me they couldn't do anything since the dealerships are independently owned and operated. My experience buying my first new car was absolutely horrible, and this is why I urge any prospective buyers to steer clear of this dealership. If only I had found this site before I started shopping for my RX-8!!!

The first time I tried to buy an 8, lst September, I was told similar things regarding pricing, such as "the 8 is selling everywhere for $10,000-$12,000 over sticker" which I knew wasn't true. After 3.5 hours of negotiating and putting $3500 down on the spot I was down to almost $500 under MSRP only to find out that somewhere between the saleman's desk and the finance office they re-tacked on an extra $6500 to get it $6000 over MSRP. I walked.

A few moths later I picked up the 8 for $400 over edumnds invoice. Now you can probably negotiate a price close to or at invoice for regular guys and maybe lower for the S-plan.

this was my first new car as well, and i had a few things working for me...

I had S Plan
I had found this site ahead of time
did a lot of research
Had a friend of mine, that has purchased 4 new cars, work with me the entire time, so i didn't run into any pitfalls.

However, none of that stopped me from almost putting my car through the dealership glass window when i picked it up. Went to put it in reverse, thought it was, and it was really in 6th...why you ask...when i took it for a test drive, at a different dealership (they had one with the options i was considering) both my friend and i asked if you needed to press down on the stick before engaging reverese...no said the nice salesman, that had already backed the car out...should have tried it myself, but didn't...so i learned that in my new car...ahh well, such is life.

I bought my RX on Saturday and on Monday my wife went in to pick something up. The Sales Manager told her if we brought in the Mazda survey we'll get in the mail and let them fill it out they would give me a free tank of gas and wash the car.

Considering the job they did "detailing" it before giving it to me the wash means less than nothing. And the gas? Not worth $25 to give up the opportunity to tell Mazda about this deal.

Ha Ha ! LOL!

My saleswoman swore up and down mine had the changer too. She kept on stating "See if you have the load and the up and down arrow keys the stereo has the changer" Well of course it didn't as further investigation found that those buttons DIDN'T WORK!

Plus she told me the HP was 210 and the mpg was 18-25. But the biggest thing was the missing window sticker. It was not on or in the car at point of sale. I got one shipped to me 1 month later! The car was sold to me on Oct 30, 2003. WTF!

I ripped her a new a** hole on the satisfaction survey because of that one. If your gonna sell a car you have to know what it is you are selling 100%!

Here's a real winner -

Un-named salesman - if you want 750 hp, don't afraid to come back (to the dealership).

Me - 750 hp? How do you get that?

Un-named salesman - Add a third rotor.

Note: this guy was implying that if I add a rotor, which in involves tons of extra man-hours, not to mention we aren't anywhere close to a 3-rotor RENESIS, I can have 750 hp, over stock. Instead of thinking about it all night, I went home, stalled my car in the garage, and went to sleep.

Think I'm playing? This was a real conversation.

3 weeks ago from a salesman who works at a local Mazda dealership who showed up at my work to buy something DRIVING an RX-8- "oh did you hear what they are coming out with for next year? twin electric turbos!!" he's been in the store about 5 times total and each time i have been told by people that helped him that he smelled of booze. i keep wondering what the dealership would think about their employee driving around in one of their cars drunk.

He just misunderstood the training session. When they said try to upsel so that you sell every car loaded he thought that they wanted him loaded.

* Best story: I was with a friend who was shopping for a Mitsubishi Eclipse (this was when those cars were first being offered.) He showed me the EPA sticker. On the EPA sticker there's a section that says what this car's mileage is and also what the MPG is of other cars in it's size class. He points to the part that says other cars in the size class get anywhere from 6 to 50 mpg. He then tries to tell me that means that the Eclipse gets that--if driven slowly, it can get 50 mpg, but only 6 mpg if driven quickly.

* I think it was the same salesperson who said that the hump in the Eclipse's hood was for the turbo. It's not. It's for the timing belt.

* RX8: a dealer said he had contacted another dealer and would have the car for me in 3 days. 3 days later, I call him and he says he just has to "finalize" the deal. He calls back 5 minutes later and says the car is not there. Damn liar.

* I mention to a different salesperson at another dealer that I'm thinking of a G35 sedan also. He says the car is a piece of **** and if I really want a G35, I should just get a Mazda 6 instead.

I saw a commercial this morning it had the General Manager of Magnussen trying to sell his rx-8's and his closing words were "and it gets 33 miles to the gallon..".... LOL... I have a difficult time believing 23, that's unless you drive on the freeway 99% of the time!! Even the GM is clueless....

First test drive I ever had, it was obvious from the start that the dealer knew nothing about the car.

After we got back to the dealer, she tells me, "...give it a second before you turn it off so that the turbos can cool down."

Where do they find these people?!?!

Geez - have I some stories to tell you...

I worked at a dealership and I was listening to one of the managers tell his customer that there was an alarm system in the car that, when set off, would launch hand-cuffs out of the airbag and attach to the crook.

The same guy also used to taunt the benefits of "Milk Fed Leather"... that's leather seats made from cows that are fed milk, as opposed to the leather made from cows that drink water instead.

(Please - I can't make this stuff up)

After telling a Nissan salesman I was waiting a few weeks so I could make a much larger down payment, he informed me that "You'd be better off buying now with a smaller down payment so you can avoid the depreciation trap."

I wanted to point out that I have a degree in Math with several classes in Finance....but I was kind and just chuckled.

Yes that thing has a Hemi in it ... J/K

Amazing how little these folks know about their product and can't understand why they don't get more sales ... or worse, they get sales ...

This thread is great! lol.. Anyways.. Courtesy Mazda, Las Vegas I was getting my oil changed from them and I was outside on the front looking at different RX8's and planning ahead on my next one. This dealer came up to me and said "these are nice cars huh? Do you know those cars that Mitsubishi has, the EVO's? These 8's can beat em" And then he goes do you want one? I replied with " I already have one and it is getting its oil change right now, and as for this car beating the EVO? I dont think so" Then he makes a remark that if I was just there for an oil change that I should be waiting in the waiting area because I could be mistaken for a potential buyer. I then said well I am gettin ready to look at those Mazda 6's though because my wife is interested in one. He then changed his tone and was once again the aggressive car salesman. I told him that I was planning on trading my 8 in in about 2 years to get the really decked out one, appearance package, dvd, navi etc.. Well he said to just trade my 8 in now and get the 6 too, we can do a 2 car deal. He said that I was basically just purchasing the 6 since the two 8's will cancel each other out.

I said no, my car barely has 5k miles on it and I want to keep it for awhile.. he then said that dude dont worry because out of the whole state, we only have 2 used 8's for sale and we need them and they will give you a good price. He then proceeds by sayin that they had a meeting about this earlier stating that there wasn't enough used 8's to meet the demand. What was funny is when he made a comment to his friend saying "hey isnt that right? That our meeting this morning we talked about used 8's and that there wasn't enough to go around? He said uhh no, I dont remember that.. the dealer guy's jaw just dropped and I started laughin lol. This guy wouldn't quit though and got a card with an appointment on it for me to bring my wife in later on that day lol.. To make the long story short, this guy was a retard, he got pissed at me cause I didnt want to buy another 8 from him, and instead of my wife gettin a 6 she got a Audi TT instead.

What happens if you go in to buy a rx8 at S-plan price, with the s-plan pin number in hand, along with all the proper paperwork, and they dont give you s-plan pricing?
Simple. You say: "Okay, I'll take my business to a dealer who will give me S-plan pricing". They'll probably change their tone. Dealers aren't obligated to sell you a car at S-plan, but it's easy to find a dealer that will honor the pricing.

You don't need to. Just call all the local dealers in your area or email them asking if they have the car you want and whether they would honor the plan.

It was just funny in general watching the salesman trying to describe how the engine works, "the pistons, they go in circles".
