The only reason you couldnt use the S plan is if Mazda decided to not offer it on the Rx8, but I dont see them doing that.
I dont know about the 05's, but I would guess October of so.

any particular reason you'd like an 05?

the prices are dropping on the '04, you should be able to get them at invoice or less.... remember, you won't get such discounts on the 05 when it comes out

but to answer your question, i seriously doubt you'll have any problem getting S-plan on the 05 even if you have them build one for you

I used S-plan on a '05. Didn't plan on an '05 but then I sure didn't want the ancient '04s on the dealer's floor. Now the bad part is the wait.

Was there a difference in price on the S plan between the 04 and 05's?

there shouldn't be a difference unless mazda ups the msrp cuz i think the s-plan is just a percentage off of that. that's why i want an 05 anyways; if i can get it for the same price, why not go with a newer one?

btw, denzalo, did they give you an estimate as to when to expect your 05 and did you put a deposit down or just pay for the entire car?

Can someone help me understand the s-plan? If the late model 04's are selling at or below invoice, then the s-plan won't help much if it's measured as % off MSRP.

Is there a way to combine the s-plan discount with the fact that the 04's will be discounted to get a super deal?

(BTW, yes I'm s-plan eligible.. that's why I'm asking. )

Why? The 2004's are selling at invoice? The s-plan is useless?

Unless I buy an '05. :D

I paid 500 for deposit. The first estimate was 8-12 weeks from order date (7/8/04). But now its "call us every 2 weeks" so I really have no clue right now. Dealer hadn't changed anything with the price once we realized I'm getting an '05. It could be close enough that he just let it be, but who knows, I won't put it past them to jack the price up after the fact... But as of right now the number is hovering around 26,500 (dest included) for a MT sports pkg. spare tire kit, alarm, mats.

s plan useless?

I'd rather just walk in and tell them I have the S plan, and leave with my new car that to spend ALL DAY haggleing, and maybe get invoice, or a little lower.

My time is worth more than that.

But negotiating a good price in this market isn't that much effort. You don't have to go to the showroom, or haggle with anyone. Just fire off a few emails to internet managers, pick the best price and you're done.

I spoke to a local dealer today who is affiliated with SAMS Club Buying Program and he informed me that there will be a 6% increase for the 2005 model year.

If that's the case, I may have to look into another car. That's a tad bit steep considering the projected changes for the 2005 model year.

I have been doing this and more than often I am asked to call them (basically so they can haggle over the phone) or they quote me on a demo (so I have to remember to ask them 100 questions to be sure I covered everything) or they just quote me some # that is $500 over invoice. Oh the other one is where they quote a figure and say that depending on what incentives I qualify for will determine the end price (ie they are adding College Graduate and Rev it up voucher or something) Way too many variables...
One dealer did quote me invoice... it is all very time consuming
