I'm happy with my Grand Touring package, and definitely would not want to give up the leather and heated seats.

However, I could live without the sunroof (even though now that I have it I like it) and as soon as a 1DIN compatible dash kit comes out, I could have lived without the Bose stereo too. I mean it's not bad, but...

So knowing what I know now, I'd say get the Sport package - if you can find one at your price point. But don't turn down a Touring or Grand Touring either if the price is right.

Yep, our own RX-8s For Sale/Wanted forum is definitely worth keeping an eye on! I assumed rx8wannahave was already doing that...

 

rx8wannahave, I just spoke with the dealer I bought mine from. He said there are 4 Black/Black, Sport Pkg, 04's left in the Southeast US (new). The best price one he finds is $28,300 but that is the list price. You will be able to get it on down to a manageable price with the $1,500 rebate and offer you make. I say give him a call and tell him you will pay $23,000 or what ever you want and let them tell you no or what they can sell it for. Ya got nothing to lose by calling. These guys were great to work with. They are located in Gainesvilla, Georgia. The car is actually located in the Carolinas right now. He wasn't very specific. If you are interested, PM me and I'll give you my contact's info.

I GOT IT, YoHOO!!!!!!!

I wanted at least sport package but decided, and agreed...that a 2005 base was better than a 2004 used sport package RX8.

Later on I'll add the HID (maybe cause I love the powerful lights I have already) and the fog lights. Oil cooler grills, clear corners, tints....and once the warranty is over and I've saved up, a SC/Turbo, lighter flywheel, lighter rims, lighter pully's...300HP is the goal but dreaming about 350. What every I do or what ever HP I gain...it must remain as driveable as it is stock...no compromises there.

DID I MENTION I GOT MY 8!!!!!!!! I can't stop looking at her...LOL

As an ex-car salesman at a dealership that did a considerable amount of business over the internet I can tell you that you will get no better deal by dealing with a car salesman over the net than you will dealing with him or her on the phone or in person. In fact the vast majority of our internet customers paid a slightly higher price than those who didn't contact us over the web or by email, not a huge difference, but it was slightly higher.
I'm not saying you shouldn't use the internet, I would highly reccomend using the web to research the car you are interested in and then walk into the dealership with a file folder under your arm containing print outs of all the information you find, it is also handy to walk in knowing the dealership's inventory better than the salesman does (not a tough thing to do with most salesmen).
The people who get the best deals are the ones who come into the dealership prepared, won't take crap from anyone, know what they want and are willing to keep looking until they find the dealership that will give them what they want. Deal with a salesman who has been around for a long time who won't feel the need to verify everything with the sales manager, be a jerk, no matter how nice the sales person seems to be they are lying to you and want to rip you off, so walk in with the attitude that these people are your enemies, don't give them any information because they are supposed to be providing you with information, know that they will try and rip you off on the price of the car, on add ons (I once saw a dealer who had a "theft protection" code engraved on the windows of all of the cars on the lot, I happen to know that this costs the dealership around $25 per car but they had it listed on the car as a $1500 feature), and they will especially try and rip you off on financing, extended warrenties, and GAP insurance. Be tough, be strong, be a jerk when you need to, don't be stupid or gullible, and you will get the best deal possible.

 

That may be true, but I think most people here suggest using the internet to deal with either the Internet Manager, or the Fleet Manager. My understanding is that these managers don't work on commission, and thus are not as concerned with getting a high price. True, a saleman will try for the same deal, regardless of whether in person, email, or phone.

 

RX8wanna now got - Congratulations. I was reading the whole saga and hoping it would turn out well. I had to wait 208 days until my wish was granted.

I used Edmunds and was VERY prepared prior to the final email negotiation with my salesperson. He actually came down another $500 when I arrived.

It was by far the most pleasant car buying experience I have ever had (5th new car buying experience). Bought mine at Russel Automotive in Baltimore, Maryland. Their service team has continued the level I experienced during the sale.
