RxWanna , I know your pain , I honestly do .........I worked for 8 months to get my 8 , some months I thought it was never going to happen . I'm in sales , straight commission , and some months were pitful , but I made some changes , worked my *** off , stayed late , worked days off to finally string 4 good months together so I could pay off bills . It finally happened in Oct . Was actually the first thing I EVER put my mind to and focused on till I got it . If there is a will there is a way ! There was months I thought I would never be able to get my car , I posted pics of the car on my desk and every time I thought about ditching the idea ,I would look at it and say " I deserve that car, I'm not stopping" Don't give up ! I would search the internet , look at cars elsewhere ... I looked in Dallas because I could get a $39.00 flight to Dallas to pick up my car . If Southwest Airlines flies out of your town , I would look and see where they fly to that you could get a cheap ticket , and search that city. I did my whole the process through e-mail and faxes . YES , I had to wait two weeks to fly there ,but man...........that feeling when driving off the lot...... can't even describe how I felt . My first brand new car ever , what I had worked for so hard , read about it on this forum for 8 months , and it finally happened ! Just hang tough , look for some '04's that are still around , and try to work the deal by e-mail . You know how much 04's are going for , you been around long enough to know the car better than a salesman . Make it happen ....... you won't regret it ! DrR

I too feel your pain. It took me about a year in order to finally get my 8. It is definitely worth the wait. Please don't give up hope just yet. Try some of the suggestions others has posted.

my friend is very direct with dealerships. he will tell them that he will buy the car off them for a specific price he wants. if they say no, he leaves no matter what they say. he normally asks for cars up to 3k-5k under their offering price. he managed to get his Jetta way under their asking price doing this. he left the dealership and they called him up the next day wanting to do his asking price. did the same thing with his cherokee and got his price.
if u tell a dealer "i want to buy this car for $26k" and if he says no, just leave and tell him to call u when they are willing to settle for $26k.

For what it's worth, when I went to get my eight last year, I had all my financing ready ahead of time, so that when I went looking for the car, there wasn't any of the usual dealership BS regarding financing. Just keep that in mind, when you have financing ahead of time, you call the shots.
BTW - my 8 is the first car I've purchased not only new, but also with financing. I am going out next year to buy my wife a Tribute, and am going to approach that the same way. I will go to all of the same dealerships as before, pitting them up against one another, much like I did with the 8. And whichever one comes back with the best price, wins the sale. :D

Thanks again everyone for the encouragement!

Regarding holding back and acting CHRISTlike, well...that is my duty. I probably could have done better but I'm working on it...little by little.

I also understand that these guys are normally treated badly and live sale by sale. They don't get paid hourly and work LOTS of hours. I further understand that they are in sales, my brother is in sales too, but what angers me is the lack of respect and some sort of honesty.

How do you allow someone to drive 220-250 miles to do a bait and switch type of sale. Do you think that person, who is going for car A, to leave with car B because he drove so far.

THAT, and mainly that...is what ANGERS ME!

But, it's over..."joy comes in the morning"...and I'm OK again. I'm a pretty happy guy, content and VERY GREATFUL for EVERYTHING. So, it was just a set back, a disapointment, etc etc

I'm OK...

I'll keep working on the 8, I wont give up now...GOD WILLING, I'll be going to a credit union on Monday. I'm on vacation today so I'll have a week of looking and dealing...

THANKS AGAIN EVERYONE!!! GOD BLESS!!!

I bought my 8 in person, at a dealership. It went super smooth, because I did all my research ahead of time. You have to go in armed with information. I think Edmunds is a good source, but there are others. If all your research is done, you should know ahead of time whether or not you are going to get the vehicle. If you need to talk them down another 2000 from what you KNOW the selling point is, you are setting yourself up for disapointment. Obviously walking in the door with financing helps, but not if you are pre-approved below the amount that you KNOW the 8 goes for. If you know what rate you can qualify for, and you know the selling point, and you know the value of your trade, then you KNOW if you can buy the car or not.

All that being said...I had to go to two dealerships to make my deal. I KNEW it was a completely workable deal, but the first dealership wouldn't negotiate down to the real selling point, and were trying to kill me on my trade in. I argued with them for longer than I should have, because I KNEW the deal would work, and drove direct to another dealership. Thank goodness it wasn't 250 miles, or I'd have been plenty steamed too. The second dealership made the deal immediately.

The 8 is a great car, and if you are able to get one you will love it. Be realistic though, when you buy a car, everyone needs to get paid. Dealership, salesman, bank, etc. They don't get paid by spending hours arguing unrealistic deals with underfinanced customers. I'm not trying to sound harsh here, and I'm certainly not on ANY salesman's side here. I know what it's like being on the edge of affording a car I really wanted. Just be realistic.

OK, I understand....this is what I think I can do:

$20500 (Finance from a credit union)
$1500 (Mazda Rebate)
$1500 (my trade in, they said they would give me)
$3000 (my down payment)

Total: $26500 (TTT/Out the door)

Do you think that deal is realistic for a 2004 RX8 6spd w/sport package? I think it is...but If they run out of 04's...I'll prob have to go the used way because I wont have the $1500 rebate from Mazda on 05's.

Let me know what you guys/gals think?

I paid $26,000 out the door for the same package in May 2004. I paid $4,000 down, $1,000 cash and the balance with my credit union @ 2.3% +/- for 48 months ($519.83 payments). If you are happy with what you have and want to "get-er-done" then do it. If you are willing to put this one on the line for a better price then tell them $24,500 and "It's a deal". Walk away and let them call you back. They will call back. It's the end of the year, end of the month and the 05's are in. I personally would take the chance, but I'm an old fart with patience. After you get the car, you will not even remember the difference in the monthly payment either way cause you will be washing her once a week (or more) and doing all those things you have read about on this forum. Then you will be posting pics of her and laughing about the hard times when you just didn't think you could do it. Good luck dude and Merry Christmas.

Hey, I bought a 2004 with the sport package 2 days ago. I spent about 2 weeks researching the deal and asked for internet quotes from about 12 dealers within 150 miles of me. You CAN do that deal, if you're patient and like alot of other people have said, be prepared. Check out the newpaper adds for the major papers. I live in socal, So that meant the LA times, OC Register and SD union. Check edmunds, kbb, autotrader, etc.

You're at a peak time to buy, end of year, end of month. The best deal I got was 24500 (not with t/t/t) but one dealer had a 2004 with appearance package and changer for 23900. You just need to stick to your guns and send a lot of emails on the 29th and 30th and you'll get that deal. And for the dealers that are "one low price with no negotiation!" , well, they WILL deal. Just tell them that you like their dealership, but felt you had to go elsewhere cause of the price..could they perhaps try to meet this amount?? You'll be surprised. They'll move. They want to sell cars and they want to move the 2004s.

Good Luck & merry christmas!

Yeah, it ends on 1-3-05, but with the amount of 04's left that deal will probably get even better. I'm going to the credit union today....we shall see

Well, I went to the credit union and I got 4.25% loan @ 72 months...GREAT!!!

Now, I have been reading about some of the deals people are getting and let me tell you they aint giving out those deals down here in FL. They are holding on to those cars like gold but I'll keep trying.

I'll keep you posted...

Awesome! :D Try up here. I know of one dealer that had a lot of 04's about 3 weeks ago (North Georgia). The only problem getting one up here is you would have to really baby your baby going back home.

I personally would not get one without DSC. I like the sport package but that's a personal thing. What is the cost of the used and how many miles?

There arent that many used 8's out there, a dealer that has one will probably try to screw you as bad or worse than a new one. Find an 04 with the sport package. Not to try to burst a bubble but you have been looking forever for the 8 you want. You said you had a 72 month loan approved (means you will be in the hole for 6 years on it) can you really afford this car at all? I love the car myself but what are you sacrificing to get it?

With the paymnet I got I can afford it with no sacrifice other than the monthly paymnet, LOL.

Also, I plan on paying for it about a year early so it probably wont be going the full term.

One of the reasons why it's taking me so long is because I was saving up and I think the deal I was requesting was a hard one to make. We will see....
