Just to give anybody who hasn't considered this a heads up. I kept my 97 mercury tracer when I bought my 8 and listed the tracer as my primary vehicle. I'm actually paying 500/year less to insure both then I would just the 8. I am only 22, so I think I am saving quite a bit more than someone over 25 would be.

But just the same, something to consider. Anybody else out there do something similar? I'm paying 1300/year total for full coverage on both.

 

Adding a second car didn't lower my rates any.

Adding a second person to my policy lowered my rates a little bit.

Also putting down my second car as my primary instead of my rx-8 saved a few more bucks.

I pay $1,000 per 6 months for two cars, full coverage, 150/300k. $250 deductable (lowest amex allows)

 

Check out Costco's insurance. It's through American Express. We switched both our homeowners and auto insurance and save about 1k a year!

 

Just to follow up: it may not work w/ all insurance companies and it may have something to do with my age. I went through general casualty and asked what the rate would be with just the 8 and then with the tracer as my primary. Like i said before 500 less/year.

 

Through GEICO its the same whether I have my 92 Explorer as primary and the 8 or just the 8: about 600/6mos. I dont carry collision on the sploder. Insured in NC. Im 23 and have an at fault accident 4.5 years ago.
