Ken- so switching from this aviation oil to 5w-20 is no big deal?
would you just add 5w-20 in the future, or do the swap during an oil & filter change?

You might contact Phillips and ask if there are any compatibility issues between that oil and current API SH automotive oil. I wouldn't think so, but paranoia never hurt. If there aren't, then just start using whatever oil you plan on switching to. Same as parayzedpimp, who doesn't know what brand his car's previous owner used.

this oil is crazy, i can order a case online....after shipping it came out to 73 dollars for 12 qts.
i went to a shop that sold it locally, they charged me $13.80 for one qt.
the guy says "all aircraft oil is expensive"
i researched, but didn't call bullshit on the guy. Google tells me this oil is a hair cheaper than your typical conventional oil.

Can someone point me in the right direction and link a thread or two that will help me ultimately decide what kind of oil to use?

nobody can tell you what to use. everyone has a different idea. i use 10-30. do some reading and decide for yourself. climate plays into peoples choices too

btw the coolant light is beaten to death. do a quick google search rx8 club coolant light or something similar

at this point if you just want an oil that works and is going to do the job, go grab some Castrol 5w-30 and call it a day. No need to stress over it. Change every 3-5k miles. Its good oil, always on sale at autozone/advanced auto, and the weight is good year round. Now if you want more detail or better choices for oil, then you will need to search ... my spoon only reaches so far lol.
