Question

I took my 13b out last weekend for rough idle and no power. It sounded like a lawn mower. I took off the LIM today off the old block and scraped into the ports of the block with my finger. I noticed some metal flakes and acouple nice silver sized chunks came out w my finger. They're really slender and about as long as across the face of a dime. I also pulled the pan and noticed no metal chunks or shavings in it at all. Just nice clean oil. Does this sound like apex seal failure? Thanks

Does this rotor look reusable? This one was pulled from the good housing. Looks like a **** load of carbon from all I can tell. How does one clean it up? Thanks

Ok this is the dumb question thread right....

I've searched for info on this. (Even tried the fancy Google way of searching the forums for it) and can only find info on adding aftermarket exhaust systems...

Why didn't my 2004 RX8 come with dual exhaust outputs? And which years/trims did? I'm pretty sure mine is a GT... it has the 6spd. Manual, the sunroof, the spoiler, and the hi power engine.... but only one driver side tail pipe coming out the back (which pisses me off because the bumper is clearly designed for two!)

I saw a guy with a red one the other day and asked him about it. It was a 2005, had NO spoiler but had dual exhaust tips and he said they were stock....

So what's the skinny on this?

You don't have a stock exhaust

Yes, all RX-8s from 2004-2008 came with the exact same exhaust from the factory. You have an aftermarket exhaust on.

Thank you! I guess that's why I couldn't find any info on this. I'm gonna have to talk to the previous owner... My Ex! lol why in the world would she have the exhaust changed from factory dual outputs to this silly looking single pipe... jeez women!

They are next to worthless on the forum, since people prefer to trade up. Post a WTT (Want to Trade) in the classifieds and I am positive you will get a bite before long.

Well, I guess it doesn't have to be stock... what's a good aftermarket dual setup? I'm looking for a nice rumbley sporty sound, but not the "fart cannon" ricey sound. And I'm guessing stainless, as I don't want it to end up rusty either.

Lots of exhaust opinion threads out there. Generally the 3 favored ones are Greddy, Racing Beat, and Borla.

Can't tell, but if just carbon may be OK. I'd call a dealer mechanic or other qualified mechanic and see what they use. Soak it in Seafoam? Was synthetic oil used in this engine? Last I heard, MAZDA doesn't recommend synthetic because of carbon build up. Good luck.

BTW if you use Seafoam or Mazda cleaner to get off the carbon, it is suggested that the stuff works ONLY if the part itself is HOT, if it's cold/left for too long, it doesn't do anything - the carbon hardens again. One owner baked the part hot to 350f then soaking it in a bowl of cleaner. Of course, I'm just passing this along - no warranty!

New here and I was hoping someone could help me. I have a Chevy cobalt ls and I am looking at a 06 sport edition, what I want to know is which one if faster being na. And which is faster being fi. Idk anything about rotary so what kinda of work would need to be done to the engine and transmission for them to not blow up. What kind of hp and torque does a turbo generate. Thanks

Rotaries are different, but interesting animals. How much power really depends on how the previous owner cared for it, what transmission it has, and how YOU care for it and drive it.

The RX8 makes the Cobalt look like a joke. I went from a MS3 to an RX8 and I still prefer the RX8 even if it is an NA. It is just a better experience than the MS3.

Don't go FI till you know the car. and 06 is a Series 1 so it will have some options to do so, but read around here for 6 months. Your scouting has been done already for you.

I have a series 2 and it has some differences, but the bottom line is if the car isn't raped it should teach you some basic handling and fun principles of the sports car, instead of thrashing you with torque steer and sliding around.

Get a compression test on the car before you do anything with it! People who don't respect a rotary will **** it up and drop it like it is hot. This car has to heat up and cool down and be ready for you to give it the business.

Don't expect lots of torque from a stock RX8. It is a drivers car, not a drag car. At 5k it comes alive like it has a purpose and a mission, below that it is just asking for more throttle with Sad cat eyes.

If your like me and want an experience, get an RX8, if you want a point A to point B drive get the Cobalt.

I just sold my Clio II 04 1,2 60hp and I want to buy at last something that I will be happy to drive. The first car that I could think was the Cooper S but a lightning stroke me and I saw the truth RX-8. Zoom Zoom with fun.

Happy to find your forum keep up the good work. I will try to assist you with my experience after the purchase.
