UK Hello! lil problem?

hello, ;

Last night i started my car, it started fine but it does take about 3 seconds to start cold, but lately the starting has been acting weird i was thinking it could be the battery

So i drove it for 15 mins the car warmed up, parked up 10 mins later ( left the side light on) i tried to start it again and it was only cranking! So i left it for another 10 mins, no joy.

My friend came in his rex n jump started it, it worked then cut out, we done this 2/3 times. So i called recovery as i thought i flooded it, just tried one more time without the jump leads and it worked? ( during the 3rd shut off, the car was struggling to idle and the engine check light came on and car sounded deeper, could this be the coils and battery?
Anyway i drove it home fine.

This morning, i started the engine, it took about 4 seconds to fire up and when it did fire up, it sounded weird like it used all its strength to start up, i left it to warm up and drove around the block and turned the engine off.

15mins i came back to start it while it was still hot, it did not start, so I assumed it could be a hot start problem ( my hot starts usually take around 5 seconds to start), iv left it for about 50mins now, and the engine is cold ( or cool) but the temp shows cold, and its only cranking.

Long story, I'm sorry but trying to be specific on the problems, if it was a hot start issue, I'm sure it would start after 10/15mins after shut down, but iv left it for almost an hour and it don't start at all, it only cranks, could this be the battery?, coils? spark plugs?

2005/44k - last serviced last year but not sure if anything got changed.

Thanks !

Flooding is caused on START UP, not shutdown. It's caused by having insufficient ignition strength, insufficient cranking speed (due to battery or starter weakening/failing), or insufficient engine compression.

If everything is fine, you won't flood under any circumstance. If you have ignored your car's needs, then the problem with shutting off cold is just that it increases the chances of flooding when you later re-fire due to the bit of fuel left in the engine.

A warm engine can still be flooded, but that may not be the problem. You need to remove a couple of the spark plugs to see if they are wet.

Dumb question. If it was flooded, and he got it started and ran for a while, doesn't that mean it's no longer flooded? The plugs could be fouled and there might be problems because of that, and the original problem is still there, but isn't the original flood gone?

If the battery/starter/ignition is weak, it is reflooding every time he tries to start it. It must be borderline if he has managed to start it some of the time

I left it for couple hours, and i started the car no problem, then i let it idle for about 3mins without touching the pedal then the car started sounding rough, like a deep sound, and when i was revving a tiny bit it was like a really rough sound then the engine check light came on, well it was flashing.
Then the car shut off by itself

Iv got 3 videos i will upload them to youtube so you can see what I mean.

Honestly I'd start with the battery. Do a load test. I work on a car lot and I see this issue a lot. And not only with 8s. We replace the battery and they start up just fine.

Pull the codes. It may be flooding; however, you could have a bigger problem like low compression due to a bad cat or weak coils.

Have you ever changed the coils plugs and wires? If no I would start there. You can pull the plugs and see if they are firing. .. it is obvious when they aren't. Flashing CEL at idle is most likely ignition

I'm hearing a fluttering noise that kinda sounds like a blown apex to me . Suggest you do a compression test .... You can just remove one spark plug from each rotor in turn and see if you get 3 even pulses from each rotor - that should tell you if you did .

Hi thanks for your reply, if its a blown apex or apex seals, can I just replace them or would it mean a full rebuild?

OK. You have a bad ignition. Coils, plugs, wires. Replace them all.
And now it sounds like your Catalytic Converter is clogged and broken. You have an unburnt fuel issue and now the cat has been drug into failure mode. Clogged and choking. Number 3 video says it all.

If you had a broken apex seal you would know it. Uneven cranking pulses. Does it sound even and rhythmic on start? da da da da da da. Or like someone is missing a beat, da da do, da da do.

descriptions lol
