Fluctuating idle

Just got my ‘04 RX-8 MT and it’s got a fluctuating idle at about 1500 to 750 rpm. Previous owner said it was the clutch safety switch but I replaced it and it still has the problem. The thing is is that when I push the clutch in all the way the problem goes away and it idles just fine at around 1000 rpm. The plunger for the switch doesn’t come out all the way in the new part I bought or the old one so I’m not really sure what the problem is.

Carefully pull the plunger on the switch out and then when you push in the clutch it will go to the correct position.

i did that while the car was running and the idle was still fluctuating. Everytime I pull the plunger out and I push the clutch in I hear a clicking sound. I’m not sure if it’s supposed to do that or if it’s some other switch causing the rough idle.

so I was able to bypass it and the idle was solved, but my engine flooded so I replaced the spark plugs and the coils and wires were all new and my engine just died out of nowhere and won’t start back up
