I don't doubt you when you say it seems to be running fine, but without recent rotary compression figures to bolster your feeling, you may be looking at a reman or replacement engine soon. I am only going by the compression figures posted here by the previous owner. If your car has the same engine (meaning it was not rebuilt or replaced) then his compression numbers show a failing engine. You need to get a more recent compression test and check if the engine was ever replaced. That is the only way you will know for sure. If you don't get these answers , then you may be looking at spending thousands to get a reman or replacement motor soon.

Hey we all wish you the best success with your car, but reality is that the engine is the heart of this car, and everything will hing on its condition if you want to keep it running and healthy. A failing engine can cascade you into other issues like a failing cat.

If i were in your shoes, I would sleep better after getting a recent compression test on that engine to back up your sense that all is well with a RX8 with 128,000 miles on its engine.

It is running with the original engine. Even though the engine is low on compression, his intuition isn't completely off-base. I did however mention earlier in this thread that the car has difficulty starting in very cold temperatures, which is probably the first hint at the engine going south otherwise. The engine has only ever flooded under this condition after sitting for a month, and then again when it was even colder.

circutracer1511 , I sense a reluctance to the reality that you need a recent compression test done ASAP. Don't use your money on other mods on a possibly failing engine. The engine's health needs to come first and foremost on a rotary car. You may be able to run fine for months or a year, or you may get stuck somewhere with a suddenly dead engine unexpectedly.

I promise I will drop this issue after this post. I have loved all seven of my rotary cars I have owned. You just need to respect the fact that they need a little more attention and care than any piston engine car you have ever owned. If you give them the attention and care they need they will reward you with unique driving thrills. But if you ignore their extra attention and care, they can break your heart and wallet. Best to you !
