Cigarette Lighter Wiring

Hello everyone!

I am installing aftermarket gauges for oil temp/oil pressure/water temp. I want to tap into the front cigarette lighter for an ignition power source. But electrical is not my strong suit and I cannot for the life of me read wiring diagrams.

my question is which wire to the cigarette lighter is the positive, or which wire do I tap into for the signal? I have a black wire with a red stripe and a yellow wire leading to the cigarette lighter.

If I had to take a 50/50 shot I’d say the yellow wire is the one I need to tap into, but with my luck I lose a 50/50 100% of the time. So I figured I’d reach out to the community to help!

(Side quest: can I have all 3 gauges tapped into the same ignition wire, or should I have each gauge getting power from a different source each?)

This is a picture of the two wires leading to the cigarette lighter:

Thank you in advance for the help!!

You need to get and use an electrical tester to be 100% positive.

Also you need to give us as much information as possible when making a help me thread. the color of wire varies by MO

2005 Automatic 4-Port, if that’s what you’re asking for?

And right now my upper intake is off, I’m waiting on an LS ignition coil kit to install after a coolant leak under my throttle body leaked on my spark plugs/coils. So I have the battery disconnected, I wasn’t sure if it was ok to have it connected while everything is taken apart. Otherwise I would have used a tester.

Was only really taken on this part of the project cause the gauges came in and I’m still waiting on the coils.

Yellow should be hot (+), b/r should be ground (-).
