I have heard usually 4th gear is the weak one on the S1 manual trannies.

It could be the synchros, but replacing it is a lot of work, you may actually save some money by getting a used tranny.

I’m buying a used tranny with 67,000km for 850 cad. Comes with a warranty too so I’m going with that

A good decision to say the least. I wish you luck on your install.

Rest in pieces

Just kidding dude. Good luck on the new tranny. Hopefully it’s good. Mine is a bit temperamental so I just double clutch most of the time now. Maybe look for a series 2 differential while you’re at it. It has better ratios.

These transmissions can be weak so take care of the newly used one you bought. Not a transmission that loves to be slammed into gear time and time again. And I also make sure I change the gear oil every 30k or two years. That's just me though. I'd rather over maintain the car to help ensure longevity.
