I think I destroyed my tranny... I dropped it from 4k from a redline with dsc off and got a SHITLOAD of tire hop. Then it popped out of first gear and when i just stopped fooling around and put it into 2nd gear and started to accelerate VERY slowly i hear grinding... It sounded heartbreaking!!! I need help of WHAT I could have destroyed and how much aprox. would i have to pay to get it repaired... The clutch still grips, the gears still hold... it has a medium grind on 1st, a VERY VERY harsh grind on second and third, and a very low squealing grind on 4th... 5th and 6th don't grind at all... Like i said it grind as I accelerate, not as I put it into gear. So PLEASE HELP!

 

well depeding on what year you have and if you still have warrenty take it to the dealer. my tranny went out on me 2 months ago and mazda replaced my tranny for free. for a new tranny i think your gonna hit over 3grand

 

Easiest thing to do if you want to replace it yourself is to buy a used one from a parts car. Either that or learn how to tear it down and rebuild yourself.

I don't really understand your post; were you downshifting or upshifting?

1. he redlined his car and dropped the clutch from a stop
2. his car did massive wheel hop because he redline launched his car (which in my opinion, is normal)
3. his tranny slipped out of 1st gear because of what he did (intresting)
4. when he finally let the revs settle, etc, he put it back into 2nd gear and it has problem

 

Sounds like the syncros are stripped

 

stripping the synchros don't grind ur gears.........they just whine alot, and he says it grinds more as the speed increases.............. sounds likes your gear bearings are off

 

LOL, Sorry for the very confusing post.. I was tired at 2am and pissed. But anyway, I have a 2004 model. And I didn't redline the car and popped the clutch. I revved it to 4-6k and then dropped it and had the major hop. From there on it had a problem. I do still have warranty for another month or so. And if you guys can lol tell me what to tell the dealer so then i don't have to spend over 3grand would be awesome.

 

LoL, That's sounds promising... You think it would get me a new or repaired tranny? Cuz I was saving my 3grand for my turbo kit and i would hate using it on a effin tranny that couldn't hold.

 

yeah, as far as the rubber in teh wheel wells and tread depth goes, thats gonna be what holds you up the most. I work at a dealership, and if i try to warranty anything over 300 bucks on a 'sportier' model my service manager is up my *** to try and catch the customer in some way and make them pay. not very honest in my opinion, and the main reason i'm getting out of the field after only 2 years. good luck, and make it as believable as possible that you dont beat on the car.

 

Are you sure you weren't just pulling out of your driveway that morning when it started grinding, hence why the car is at your house right now and you're going to get it towed from there??? I'm sure you sensed something was wrong and decided not to drive it under those conditions and you called Mazda Roadside RIGHT away....right???

Ok guys, I went to my car to get something out and i thought i would start it and see if it still grinds... So i tried backing out of my space... Well i put it into reverse and all i hear is like a whining grind, but no reverse... Could it be that my reverse gear exploded lol cuz isn't reverse right next to first gear in the tranny? Or something like that. But anyway... I have every other gear but reverse.... My 1st-4th still make a grinding noise, so my conclusion is that my reverse exploded and the metal from it is coming into contact with the other gears... What do you guys think?

 

put the car in first, and move it a foot or two... try reverse again..

i tried driving it, so i already tried putting it into first and then back into reverse... and even tried sixth and then into reverse. Well i couldn't really get too far, cuz i have to reverse out of my spot in the parking lot. And even when i let it roll back, it still doesn't roll very far so lol my car is basically stuck in my spot right now. So what is the number for the mazda roadside assitance, i will call them tomorrow morning and have them pick my car up and what should i tell them? Cuz i never even knew my car has mazda roadside assitance. No one ever told me.

My car is in the shop right now, they called me and told me that I had a cracked housing... it's covered under warranty. Bad thing is I have to wait two weeks to get it back. But i'm very happy that they are rebuilding it and it's covered.
