New Jersey point deductions

i heard from a few people that NJ just passed a law that they wont deduct points from your tickets anymore. like a plea bargain from the prosecutor. is this true?

i also heard from someone else that tickets with points cant be dropped down to 0, because it screws the insurance company.

is there any truth to this? anyone know?

its been a couple years since i've received a moving violation, but i was just given a 4pt ticket so... i'd like to better educate myself a little bit more.

don't know when the law was passed but yes its true. you pay a hell of alot more for the ticket but you wont get points...but its up to the prosecutor of course. Dont know about your second question though.

I could not find a link about that law for Adults, but did find one for teens LINK As for the zero point option your insurance company still finds out about the ticket and will adjust your rates / remove discounts accordingly. You just will not receive the extra surcharge for points.

you can still plea with the prosecutor, if anything you get an Unsafe Driving deal, they change the charge to unsafe driving, no points, like $500 total almost IIRC. You get two of those free passes, on the third you lose your license or get like 8 points or something, i can't remember I'm only on #2.

the exact fine for unsafe driving is $409 right now... but who knows the state might raise it again soon like they did a few months back...

btw you can still plea bargain with the prosecutor... that will never disappear

My girlfriend got $409, plus court fees, plus some charity fee for some safety group or maybe it was M.A.D.D., think it depends on the town you get busted in.

I just wish they have these deals in NYC ...

the court here has a "system" to "make sure" that they will get at least 65% "winning" case since its a big cash cow for them
