On a seperate note, I just got back from Mazda Direct Body shop and I noticed a Velocity Red 8 in the service lot. I only saw the rear, and it has a Veilside kit on there. Anyone from this board???

Since there appears to be NO other RX8 enthusiasts up here in Cleveland besides me, I'd be willing to make the trek down to Columbus for a meet. Keep me posted.....

 

side note, any of you guys have any suggestions about garage door openers? I had a post in the lounge, but I figure I rather post something local. I'll be movin in to our house in worthington in about 2 months, and gotta get 2 garage door openers.

You think i should just go with a professional to buy/install or just attempt a DIY?

What's the weather like up there? Almost all the snow has melted down here in Athens.

 

If you're replacing a bad garage door opener that should be pretty easy to do yourself (I did it once). If you have to install it the first time along with with door then get a professional. The springs in garage doors are not to be messed with.

We're moving into a new house, and the door and springs are already there. We just need to buy and install a opener unit.

id get a craftsman opener, id highly suggest a screw over a chain. i know i helped my dad replace his years back, but i dont remember how hard it was to do. id talk to them about instillation.

 

Ditto on the Craftsman. I have one myself that I installed when I bought my house. It takes two people, and a few hours, but it is do-able without professional installation (and I'm not particularly mechanically inclined). Mine has served me well for 14 years now.

 

I replaced my garage door opener by myself (which I wouldn't recommend). I also would recommend a Craftsman. After the swap I've had no problems. The previous one ended up having a circuit board failure which was more expensive to repair than just put a new one in.

 

Considering we do this as a part of our family business (Home Remodeling for 20 years) we only install LiftMaster (http://www.liftmaster.com/cw/new/). We usually do this in conjunction when installing a new Wayne Dalton garage door. Look into them you won't be disappointed. Ultra quiet, great quality, nice warranty and have yet to have a recall from a customer. Our customers are always extremely pleased.

PS - Have someone put it in for you. It's worth the few extra bucks not to have to worry about it, plus it leaves someone else liable. ha!

I was wondering if anyone in columbus to point in the right direction on which mazda dealer to take my car into. The airbag light keeps coming on and I don't know why so I figured I would get it check out. Is there anything else I should have them do when I take it there? I just bought it a month so I was thinking maybe an oil change and maybe have them inspect. Does anyone know how much these services might cost?

 

check to see if you have any "recall" services listed for your car. YOu can do that on the MAzdaUSA website by putting in your VIN number. I usually take my car to MazdaDirect over on the east side next to easton (off morse rd). If you are closer to the west side, Buyeres service isnt so bad either (i just dont like the sales). I'd stay away from ricart.
The oil change will cost you around 30$ after tax I think.

 

I know where Mazda Direct is so I'll go over there. I didn't know I could find the recall info on the website. Thanks for the tip. Hopefully it won't be anything too serious with the airbag when I take it in.

NASA @ Mid-Ohio

Time is flying by! The first NASA track event at Mid-Ohio is coming up soon. I'm giving thought to going up on Friday, April 20. I'm still thinking about volunteering for the rest of that weekend to earn some free track time for the next event.

I just went in to Byers this morning for the 30k service. This ones going to hurt the bank...$665! and thats after $40 off since I brought my own RP Trans and Diff fluid. Have any of you guys gone in for the 30k servie yet and if so, how much did it cost?
By the way, I went to Byers since Frank seems to know what he's doing and I've been pretty disappointed with the service and attitude the last few times that I went to MazdaDirect

 

What are they doing for the $665? Im sure we can do it a lot cheaper than that.

From what I understand, they're changing the trans,diff, and brake fluid, motor oil, coolant, inspections??, rotating tires, changing filters, changing spark plugs.....I hope theres more to it though...Jason, it's too late now but had I known, I would've brought it to you guys. Anyhow, I'll keep you guys posted

holy christ, $665?!? if youre going to pay anything, take it jason. but that is a downright scam and you can do it yourself pretty easily and dirt cheap. i will caution you on the diff fluid though, make sure you know how much youre putting in and that you fill it all the ay

 

Anybody have access to a lift? Sounds like a good DIY get-together.
