How is the job search going?

If you are still looking, you may have luck with some of the larger corps in town (i.e. Cardinal, Chase, Nationwide, Huntington, etc.). They will have a large variety of jobs available, bene's, pay, etc.

Quick question for everyone; My new $250 Optima Yellow Top Battery was dead yesterday after sitting for two weeks, is that normal and is the battery now damaged because it died. I was able to hit it with a jumper and it turned right over.

Thanks.

honestly i havent dove into the job search full-fledged anthony. ive been working everyday still but our last day is wed so after that ill be hitting it hard.

as for the battery, it shouldnt have killed the battery. i dont know anything specific about the optimas, but for a normal battery it doesnt sound right that it died like that.

I threw another cel over the weekend - my fourth in 31,000 miles I think. My last adventure with Mazda Direct really soured me on them - seems like they have had change in employees - and not for the better!

Byers is much closer for me, but the last time I was there was awful. Granted, it's been a while now - probably 2 years. Have the gotten any better? Any other suggestions?

Thanks

Ask specifically for Frank Polina, at Byer's. Hands down the best service guy in town. I live 5 minutes from Mazda Direct, and work right across the street, but after some bad experiences, I trek across town to Frank.

Good luck, and keep us posted to the issue/resolution!

Thanks Ra. I left them a message last night and they called me back this morning. They're scheduling for Thursday, so we'll see what happens then.

I'm beginning to suspect something electrical. It's often taking longer to restart when warm. It also really stumbled pulling into the gas station this morning. Time will tell.

I've never had to deal with the new one yet. I have dealt with Paul Liska, and after Anthony recommended Frank, I tried my best to work directly with Frank. I will be taking the car in this coming monday for the recall work. I know, I'm a slacker.

Well, this is interesting. Tim called me and asked if I wanted to leave the car so they could fix the parking brake handle. (MD could never seem to figure out how to order the part.) I said ok, since it was already there and I'm happily cruising around in my black-on-black 6 4-banger

While I was talking to him I asked about the cel. He said they called MNAO with the code and were told it meant the fuel injection system needed to be cleaned. They said that's done, but I'm not sure what they did. A little carb cleaner down the throttle body? Cleaned the injectors? Beats me. Hopefully I'll get a little more info when I pick it up tomorrow. It's just weird - I don't think I've ever seen this mentioned on this forum - and I've read a ton of posts!

I wonder what caused it. Cheap Giant Eagle gas (hard to argue with 50¢ off each gallon)? Winter blend gas?

I'll keep you updated.

ohhh, dont go cheap with gas. especially grocery gas, which is the worst of the worst. personally i will only put shell in my car, and my family adheres to the same. with 5% back via a shell cc its not that much of a difference. sure, it may save you $100/year or so buying discount, but its not worth it in maintenance. texaco is also good gas, marathon and bp isnt bad.

So it looks like I'm going to sell my RX8. I've been shopping around and really want to get a Toyota FJ Cruiser. Anyone here know of someone wanting to buy a 2004 Ti:Gray RX8?

The wife just got a Rav4 and I've been enjoying driving it around. After which I noticed that I have to slouch in the RX8 in order to not hit my head on the ceiling. My back is starting to hurt me from the poor car posture. Also in order to get my huge body in and out of the car I've been putting stress on my knee to where it's also starting to hurt me more. Plus 4x4 would be nice to have during the winter and for off-roading in the summer. I've enjoyed the 8 but I guess I'm feeling it's time to move to something else.

I took my 8 to a couple of dealerships in town. So far they've only offered me $14k to $13k. I was surprised to see such a drop. Kelly Blue Book puts my car up near $19k. From the online prices of used 8s it doesn't look like they're going for much. I really want to get $19k for it but I might settle for less.

$13-14k, yikes!!!

That's embarassing for us 8 owners. Why won't the car keep it's value? I see '03-'04 350Z's still going for well above $20k. I hate that the 350Z gets so much damn attention.

Go Bears!!!!

No kidding. I almost went with a z350 before I settled on the 8. According to the black book the 350z is trading for at least 2 to 3 grand more than the 8. Bummer.

Well finally a nearby dealership offered me $15.5k for my car which is probably as good as I'll be able to do for a trade in. I don't really want to deal with trying to sell it myself. I'd have to sell it for over $16.5 to be worthwhile with the tax savings of trading in (~$1k).

Yup, you'll get taken to the cleaners on a trade. Much better off selling it yourself, but it's a real PITA. Good luck!

I heard some where that ebay sells 1500 cars a day. Try there and simply put a reserve on it for $17k or whatever your bottom price will be. No test drives, no kids looking for a joyride. It's worth a shot IMO. Trade-in is such a big pile of pooh......but definitely easier.

I just looked at the regional inventory on Carmax. You can buy an '04 RX-8 for 18 to 21K from them. Interestingly, you can get them with either 2, 3, 4 or 8 cylinders!

Gives you a ballpark anyway. Realistically, I'd say from 16 to 19K, depending on miles, condition, etc.

Tires

I thought this might be the best place to post this since I live in Coulmbus. Last night, after work, I learned the hard why the stock tires suck in the snow. So I decided I need to get some new tires. I don't know if I should get snow tires or all-season tires. It doesn't snow too much down here but it seems like when it does it hits hard. Which type do you guys around the area use? Should I just get two to put in the back? I live in an apartment so I really don't have the luxury of storing my stock tires somewhere. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Most people are running dedicated snow tires during winter. I guess you can get by with all-seasons (and additional weight in the trunk). But you will compromise performance for spirited driving in the warmer seasons. I wouldn't put just two. I think it's almost pointless if your drive wheel has traction and your steering is useless.

Oh and welcome!

Thanks for the quick response. I decided to get 4 all-season tires. I'm going to see if I can find somewhere to store my other tires so I can pull them out in the summer time.
