Pretty straight forward actually. Racing Beat had good instructions. Word of advise, don't let rx7store strip all of your bolts. If the wheels need to come off for whatever reason, insist that they take it off with a hand wrench. Good luck!

Sounds like a meet one week from Sunday to view the results. Who's in?
I think we're due for a gathering. Count me in.

Hey Success. I was just sifting through my favorites on IE and was snooping at the site. Congrats on parenthood. I hope all is well with the family? I see you guys are discussing some parts installs. I know I'm several hours away but my lift is open to any and all of you folks. I just did a catback system on a new C6 corvette a couple weeks ago and it took 40min and my pick up last week by myself in an hour with no sweat. On the 8 neither the exhaust finishers or wheels have to come off. Maybe the drive might be worth several hundreds in labor savings? I'll provide meals and Beer. Did I say that?? Have a good one!!

Doug,

Great to hear from you! Why does it say you only have 1 post? Do you think the rotary gods know you sold your car? A C6.....you devil. Did you go Corsa for the exhaust?

Thank you, btw, parenthood has been quite an adjustment as you know. Ava is 7 weeks old as of yesterday and coincidentally that's probably the last time I sleep through the night, go figure. Ha! A true blessing from God none-the-less.

A road trip with the Columbus gang would sound like a blast! Though I would be worried that we would need some random parts (i.e. gaskets, nuts, bolts, special tools etc.) and be stuck without them. I'm also hoping that Jason gives me a price break if I stay to help out. I'd like to take pics throughout the process also.

I'm scheduled for next Tues has you all know and I don't know what people are thinking but a road trip could be cool to work on the cars. Of course, I'd have to sign off with the wife and some how get all the parts there. Uugh!

What does everyone think? Doug, btw for those of you who don't know, is the gentleman that came in from Indiana a couple times this summer and we met out for dinner. Great knowledge of cars, has owned some beauties and is a real gearhead. Great guy all around!

$200 for all that work isnt too bad, id imagine itll take you at least five hours to do everything. its easy enough to do (not sure about the struts) but at that price its almost not worth it. unless, of course, you want to have the learning experience of taking the car apart which is always fun!

Through Byers. I had them match an online price but I can't remember who's price it was. Mazdaparts, Canzoomer? $55 or so is what I remember paying.

Anthony,
I understand the logistics involved make it difficult. I know you'll like the look and sound of the RB exhaust. Unfortunately the C6 belongs to a friend. Yes I put a corsa on both the C6 and my Silverado. Both sound very healthy. Nothing to sporty for the old man here for a couple years. I have one in college, 2- 16yr olds and a 14yr old. The two 16yr olds now have cars and think Chicago is the ultimate place to go. It's about a 55mi trip and needless to say I have had many sleepless nights as well! You have that to look forward to. Enjoy them all along the way. I wish you and the other Columbians (something about that doesn't sound right) A great holiday season. Hopefully many car related gifts under the tree!

Just got my estimate from State Farm on my car. Near $4k worth of hail damage. They felt I need a completely new hood and the rest can be "popped" out. Maybe it's time to look into getting a carbon fiber hood. Not really nessicary as the aluminum hood is so friggin light (thus the reason it dented the worst from the hail). Anyone around here get a CF hood?

PS: I could probably swing a meeting on Sunday. Just don't look to hard at the car.

oooh...Z a carbon fiber hood could look very nice. With any aftermarket body panels, be very weary of the fitment.

Thought I'd share:

A week or two ago I saw your sig and almost send you a "go blue" PM. I'll consider it a wash - I don't like you b/c you like OSU, but you must have some redeeming qualities since you own an 8. lol.

I'm seriously looking at the VeilSide D1 GT Lightweight Vented Hood (either in CF or standard fiberglass). But I'm very hesitant of any non-OEM parts.

I'm hoping that Geico will say the same for me tomorrow. I'm still debating whether to stay stock or maybe go with one of these

I like the Seibon OEM replacement more and more. I'm just not sure if I like having vents on top of the hood where rain and water can pour in. I don't ever clean inside the engine compartment so adding rain water can only make it dirtier. I like the black contrast look of the CF hood though. It'll match my winter wheels quite well. All I need to do now is repaint my OEM wheels black and I think the car will come together ever more. It looks like you can get the CF OEM hood for what State Farm quoted me for a regular hood replacement.

I read in a thread here about one guys' CF hood fading after a short while (most likely due to not having a good clear coat on the hood). Are you planning to have a few more coats added?

I also went to True Performance for my repair work. Did you get a date reserved for the work? The earliest they were able to get me in was the middle of November.

TruePerformance told me about the same, mid Nov. The Seibon CF OEM style hood is my favorite so far too. The vents on the others are a little tto much and the white mesh would definitely need to be painted black. The good thing is that the CF seibon OEM style hood is right around the same price as the OEM hood anyhow! Zelig, I was also thinking about painting my winter rims black, I think the CF hood and black wheels would be a sick combo. By the way, what color is your 8? Mine is silver and based on some pics that I've seen of other 8's with the CF hood/black wheel combo, I'm seriously considering that route.

Z has a TiGray. The CF OEM is probably the way to go. Veilside is probably my least favorite.

Yeah, the more I look at the Veilside from different angles the less I like it. I might actually switch out the hood myself since the hood is the worst right now. It gets hard looking at such a dented hood all the time. That way I save on labor at the shop (which = more cash in my pocket from the insurance).

Any thoughts on adding more clear coat to help protect from fading?

Well, Geico surprisingly matched TruePeformance's assessment to the dollar. The agent was really cool, all he did was look at their printout and copy it I'm still not sure about the CF hood though. Even the OEM style one, not sure if it looks too rice?

Check out this thread. vOc's car has basically the the OEM CF hood and is Ti:grey. It's a good view of how it would look. I think with painting the summer rims near black it would really stand out.

Look up Quality Window Tint. They did an awesome job. Anthony referred me there, also.

I can do Sunday if it's later afternoonish. I forgot I had an important event early afternoon. Zelig - Are you going to the community center opening?
