That guy lives down the block from my parents. He has been trying to sell it for a year now since he got married.

One of the Columbus guys has the Corksport exhaust...not a fan. But yea...I had asked for his rotary accents when he first started selling it and he wanted the car as is. *shrug*

R3 Fury wants to get a eastern Ohio and western Penn meet and drive.
Here is the link if you're interested.
https://www.rx8club.com/ne-rx-8-forum-29/eastern-ohio-western-pennsylvania-meet-up-195071/

If we get some people interested from here, we can all drive together (to where ever it is).

Hey guys. How are things?

So ive came to the conclusion that my boost controller took a ****.

Ive double checked and re-double checked every connection, fitting, hose and zip tie.

Then i decided to just un plug the damn thing, and there wasnt a change. So the controller isnt limiting the turbo like it should be.

So i guess i have two options.

1: Garage it again till i can get a new boost controller.
2: Move the air filter from the pre-intercooler pipe to the throttle body. and just bypass the turbo all together, lol.....

Mark, you missed a wild Sunday. A lot of people lost their minds completely. In my group alone there were no fewer than 6 spins in the mid-morning session, plus a Mustang blowing full speed into China Beach right in front of me. Looked like Mount Vesuvius when he hit. Last session of the day one of the Subaru's utterly destroyed itself when it spun into the tire wall on track left just before the carousel (no damn idea how he got over there since his momentum should've taken him the other way, unless he got two wheels off and over corrected), all while a Honda was on fire at the end of the front straight at the entrance to the keyhole. Fortunately no one hurt.

I can't remember when I had more fun!!

1) Summit racing sells boost controllers.

2) That's a good way to kill your turbo. They ONLY way I would recommend doing this is finding a way to fix the wastegate so it stays open and the turbo won't make boost. Unless you do this the turbo is still going to work and compress the air to make boost, but since it's basically dumping it into the atmosphere and nothing is telling it to stop (wastegate opening from the boost controller) it's going to kill itself. You are still going to need two filters though, one on the compressor side of the turbo to keep it from sucking up rocks and **** and destroying the fins, and the other on the intake. Plus you will have to find a way to re-route the MAFS.

Actually, scratch that, it's just a bad idea in general as you are going to have to jimmy-rig a whole bunch of ****. Just go buy a boost controller.

Congrats Tom, sounded like it was a full moon or something, lucky to be able to get out of there with your car in one piece... sounds like many others didn't.

Steve- Here is an update on the drive.
I removed the logic board and inspected the components.
It had these little colored fibers everywhere... reminded me of the counterfeit fibers used in paper money.
Couldn't tell if they were conductive (causing a short) so I cleaned them off anyway.

The solder joints looked pretty good, I added solder to a crystal even though it looked acceptable.
The two sets of pads on the logic board that the motor and actuator uses to make contact to it had "footprints" from the spring pins, so I reflowed the solder on the pads to make a clean convex shape.
I also ran the board through our x-ray machine to check the BGA and other components, but didn't see anything unusual.

I reassembled the drive and tried it again, but it still wouldn't recognize.
So I went deeper to inspect the actuator, arms, read heads, and platters.
It was then that I noticed the center read head was not seated on the arm and was sticking up.
Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-actuator-arm.jpg Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-read-head-close-up.jpg Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-read-head.jpg
The thin metal "bracket" was really warped too, probably occurred when the arm returned home and the read head hit that white plastic holder.
It would be a long shot, but I decided to remove the actuator and arm and see if I could apply a small amount of epoxy to the bottom side of the read head to keep it down.
Yeah... I pretty much knew that I wasn't going to get it back to the exact position, but I had nothing else to lose.

Trying to apply a small amount of epoxy on the tip of a needle and place it on the bottom side of the read head... not fun.
Luckily we have really nice scopes here at work, but it still made it rough.
Anyway... after applying the epoxy and letting it dry I assembled everything except the cover so I could observe the arm traveling across the platter.
When the drive came on, the arms moved over the platter a few times and then parked itself.
It was then that I noticed that the center read head came up again.
I believe that the thin ribbon cable going to the read head was bowed-up too much and possibly caught the platter.
In any sense... the arm/read head is damaged and will need replaced.

Computers suck. . . any idea what caused it to warp like that? Like I said, I only dropped that computer once and it was a few years ago. . . the only thing I could think of would maybe be heat I guess.

-------------------

Anyway, we keep talking about having a meet; I'm just going to put my foot down and say I'm going out to dinner somewhere in Macadonia this Friday, I'm open to suggestions as Outback seems crowded nearly all of the time.

Wish I had a definite answer for what caused this Steve... could have just been bad luck.

I'm not that familiar with Macedonia, but there is this sports bar looking place by my work that I always see.
Its next to Gander Mountain and across from Arby's just off of 91 near I480.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? I've always been curious.

3. Brian (mebbe Megan) (provided it's not outback)
4. Jamie and Val probably (provided it's not outback)

I asked Jamie what was good in that area that is not Outback since he lives like right down the road from there. I'm sure he'll come up with some suggestions.

I know the lizard is close by as well as a Paninis. There is always that Crapplebees too.

I'm always up for the Lizard, even though I already finished my tour. They seem pretty good at accommodating large groups. If we decide on that and can get a good head count I can head down a bit early to get the ball rolling on a table.
