Hmmmm

I have developed a slight rattle at very low rpms in my car that is dominant on the drivers side. I haven't been able to get under the car yet to check it out.

I wonder if this is it. thanks for the potential fix

They also have a free trial so you can test them out.
I read they don't support networks. So I was leery of them.

I only heard it while cruising and it wasn't very loud in the cabin but you could really hear it coming off of fences and the like. The shield goes the entire length of the drive shaft and is attached with four bolts on the drivers side. The point that was making contact was right near the rear crossmember brace thingy. We tried to put a paper towel between the exhaust and the shield and it wouldn't fit. We didn't see the point of the shield since you could still see the drive shaft so we bent away.

Are you trying to backup a network or are you trying to backup your data?

Are you running your offices on one central server at a single location? Is it this server you want to back up?

Or, are you running each office separately and trying to back them all up as separate entities?

Depending on your architecture, you may want to try some different things.

Yeah, mine rattles at very low rpms, like < 1000... When I give the car a little gas at shutoff the rattle will become evident right as the tach is about to hit zero, or also when I am cruising through the parking lot at like 3mph.

It sounds a lot like a heat shield and I know it isn't the rearmost one above the muffler. If I kick the tailpipe slightly I can kinda hear it in the midsection of the car (diff/midpipe area). It only has been happening for a month or so. Never happened with the stock exhaust, so I'm guessing a compination of a bigger exhaust and the pounding that the car takes every week has taken it's toll on the heat shield.

nope...not a heat shield...it's way to thick. It's also painted black steal unlike all of the other heat shields which are raw aluminum and it has some big *** bolts holding it on. We really had to hit the shield for it to move.

I remember taking that off when we did Gilbert's transmission. Its pretty heavy duty. i think its there to protect the CF driveshaft more than anything if its the same part . . . its like black steel bracing and protection for the shaft.

Got a pic of this shield?

Anyways, John I was saying that my rattle sounds like the exhaust is rubbing on some heat shield or something. Almost similar to a rapid knife/fork scratching a dinner plate sound.

It just started happeneing so something had to pop loose.

I'm just too damn lazy to look underneath there.

Yup...that's what it sounds like Brian. Part 12 in the upper right. According to the diagram it is a heat shield for the driveshaft...but the damn thing seems too thick to do any good. *shrug*

My cat-back had a rapid tap at low RPM and it was the hanger tapping against the diff.

ppf wut? haha

Mine is a sqeek/metal scraping metal noise. I don't know what it's hitting, but I do know the exhaust is rubbing up against something metal. Like I said, it just started happening like a month ago so something had to come loose. I'm going to attempt to look at it Saturday after work in between the front sway bar install and balance shaft removal I have to do on a friends car.

Edit: John, I just copy pasta'd the images url into the addy bar and it shows up. the Item I was refering to in the pic was #15, you can't see #12 in the pic I posted. I'll at least start there. Thanks.

You are probably referring to the heat insulator.
I'll try to find a pic...

I narrowed-down my rattle by crawling under the car while its running and used welding gloves to slightly move the pipes until I found where it was tapping.

In the upper left corner of this picture you see a bolt...that is one of the bolts holding in that shield.

And in this one if you look at where the catback ends and the midpipe should start to the left of it you see a bolt...that is holding in that shield.

And why is it that when I search for "RX8 Cat Under" in Google I got a picture of EndLinks on page 10? *sigh*

cool, thanks John. I don't know if that may be my problem though. that sucker looks too thick to just come loose and start squeaking. I'd assume that they loctite those bolts in there, but then again with the heat of the exhaust I wouldn't be suprised if it compromised the loctite and the bolts wiggled a little.

I'll have to let you listen to it at the meet tonight. It's most consistant at right around 1200-1500rpms

Still not going tonight. :P That plate can't move at all with how it is mounted...however...with you putting your midpipe on and off maybe your exhaust just shifted enough to start hitting it.

Well, you can change my listing to -1, plus 2... I have to bring my step brothers kids to the meet tonight cause I said I'd take them up to marblehead for the weekend to hang out with my step dad. . . woo. . .

The one isn't bad, the other is a handful. Feel free to beat them when they need it... or you're angry. Just kidding, beating kids when you're angry isn't cool.
