Doesn't that seller have a history of trouble shipping on time or selling the same thing in the forums as ebay and reneging on people here? Just keep that in mind if someone does go through him. I don't think you'll get screwed but you might not end up getting the starter.

Well... Tim is back to driving his car (I followed him to 306).
Thanks to Brian and Megan for coming down and helping... you guys were a HUGE help.
And thanks to Tim and Megan for cleaning my wheels... they look beautiful.

Using an impact gun for the flywheel nut was an awesome idea and we should use that from now on.
The impact gun was also nice on the flywheel puller.... after we finally borrowed a thick piece of steel from my father since the puller was bending/puncturing everything we stuck behind it.
It even punctured through a pad-lock!

Thanks to Tim (aka TJ, aka Steve #2, aka (forget Brian's new name at the moment)) for not getting the Transmission oil before Saturday.
Kid never heard of UPS, USPS, Fed-Ex, or DHL. So we ended up taking a road trip to Summit Racing!

After we reassembled everything I pushed the clutch pedal in.
The 1st half of the stroke was VERY light (no resistance whatsoever) and the 2nd half of the stroke felt like it should.
We bled the clutch line and got out a few little air bubbles, but that did not help much.
My guess... when his clutch went out, parts of the raccoon (aka clutch disk material) seized up the throw-out bearing and/or release fork.
When he pushed down on the pedal and the slave cylinder piston couldn't travel farther than it needed to, the fluid had to go somewhere and damaged the slave cylinder.
There were no signs of oil leaks around the cylinder, but maybe it was enough to just damage the piston itself.
But Brian crawled under the car while I pressed on the pedal and he said the 1st half of the stroke the piston barely moved, but the 2nd half of the stroke appeared to move the piston out like it should, just not as far as it should.
When we pulled out the transmission there was scattered disk material on the throw-out bearing, so that helped with my conclusion.

So as of right now Tim *can* drive his car because the release point is right at the bottom of the clutch pedal stroke.
This means as soon as he lifts up on the pedal, it quickly engages.
I told Tim to look into buying a new slave cylinder ASAP.

On another note, Yulia and I were going through the "Pics of RX-8's and Hot Wives / Girlfriends" thread.
Very nice pics Megan... we both liked this one the best:
Akron/Cleveland 8 Owners.-megan.jpg
In fact, when we first saw the pictures Yulia asked, "who is that hot girl?"
She was shocked when I told her is was Megan.

I dunno...Patrick was super quick for me and has all kinds of weird *** parts laying around. I even watched him do a coilover install the one time and we got to talkin about some things and he was cool as hell. *shrug*

I agree John... Patrick is a good guy and is usually the first person to turn to for miscellaneous parts.

Yes, yesterday was quite a long day. Glad both you and Brian were able to get the majority of everything running and working for Tim . Sucks that it took so long yesterday because of the detours lol. Thanks for the help both of you guys, as I'm still learning I know it's hard to keep patience with my slowness sometimes. So I always appreciate the learning experience

As far as the wheels go Jon, no prob. Only wished I could clean them up a bit more but there was a bit of tar that was hard to get off

Thanks for the picture compliment hehe. Didn't realize many people over here look at that thread eek lol.

Holy ***** I am ready for a nap.

Between TJ # Steve's car and my focus, this weekend has been rough.

Jon, No worries about yesterday, after seeing what you in for I decided to stick around. I couldn't leave a man hanging. hehe Im just glad the car was driveable by the end of the day.

John and Amy, thanks for coming down today and lending a hand with the Focus. I'd have to say for only working on it for 8 hours (and considering the condition it was in before today) I'm very pleased with the progress for today.

For everybody reading... John got his hands dirty. Like, a lot. This guy actually got in there and turned bolts and ****. I tried searching for an emoticon for the shockedness (is that a word?) I am feeling, but 8club doesn't have one. Lets just say it's eek x's eleventy billion.

Doc, I'll get more into springs and **** and a better discussion for you later. I am getting sloppy joe all over the keyboard right now. heh

Wait, what was that little bit about my car? I don't get it? Just cause Tims car is a pain in the ***?

Well, actually, I can't say that. I was done with my starter swap in 39 minutes! And the thing sounds amazing! Woo for 100 dollar upgraded starter!

Good part about that though is that I got to learn a lot. Got questions still but I'll let you sober up and enjoy your sloppy megan...I mean joe. :P

Yeah... because nothing was going right with Tim's car.
This was worse than your SSV trouble.

i guess i never really introduced myself, my name is Nick. im 25, live in alliance. i purchased my 8 back in june of 2007. Currents mods are a HKS low mount turbo system. the turbine is right next to the oil drain. From what i can tell, the duel exhaust is also HKS. all ran by a mazsport interceptor-x ems. Greddy boost controller and turbo timer. a few cosmetic things nothing major.

What kind of work do you do (or about to do)?
Its interesting to hear about everyone in the club (even just locally) and think how people with different careers can come together and be a bunch of car geeks.

Does your band play at any local bars yet or is it still a work in progress?

I work at republic storage. its a locker factory. mostly school lockers and the such.

and the band isnt a live band. its a game for xbox, but we just pretend. we get together, make dinner and play. we act like its a real band. but its really not. just for fun.

You'll find that a lot of us are computer and car geeks too.
John (DeViLbOi) works IT.
Tim (Trademark) works with the Geek Squad (I try not to laugh at the thought of him driving the bug).
I used to work full time as a computer technician, now I just do it as a side job.

Whoa, a turbo kit that works? Neat!

Welcome.

I've bought from him before. . . the lower intake manifold actually. Worked out fine.

----------------

-----------------

In more comical news, was driving the car this morning, heard a bang and a metallic crash like someone dropping a wrench... Look in the rear view, and sure enough. . . there is the 14mm wrench I used to tighten the top starter bolt on the road. . .
I was able to hop out and get it. . . but sometimes I wonder why I am so 'tarded ... I'll try to look at the bright side and figure atleast I remembered to tighten it.

---------------------------

Lastly - random car question. . . Kristen's car (00 Elantra Sedan) sounds like crap... heavy vibration in the front end above 40, excessive road noise at highway speeds, and the noise is very sensitive to slight changes in the wheel direction. (a few degrees to the left will result in much more noise, while a few degrees to the right will nearly eliminate it)

I'm thinking probably a combination of wheels being out of balance and a bad alignment. But what about something being potentially bent in steering system? I changed oil, inspected brakes, rotated tires, and looked all around the front end, and everything "looked" okay, but not having any experience with the car, I don't really know what to look for.

I am on her to purchase new tires before winter anyway, so I figure do the alignment with the new tires and see if that does it.

Any thing else you guys think it might be?

never dealt with that... but I've never done much steering, wheel bearing, ball joint, etc...

What is the best way to confirm if its a CV joint?

Could also be an alignment. Amy had that problem with her 3. Corded the tires too.
