a quick note before I go on...cameras over 4-6 megapixels are a waste and will be saddled with LOTS of noise due to the chip unable to compensate (Unless it is an SLR d-camera). plus you will fill up a memory card like crazy...if you do get a 7/8 megapixel camera and you aren't doing semi-pro or pro shots put the setting on a lower size...your memory card will thank you (so will your pc's hard drive).

ok now...

the powershot S2 is a good camera but to my suprise has a poor lense (which since odd since it is a canon)which limits its capability.

If you are looking at the S2 then definitely go for the

Panasonic Lumix FZ-5...the lense is from Leica and is worth a couple hundred itself which is amazing since the camera can be had for great deals (check www.fatwallet.com ). Plus it has optical image stablization, Lumix was the first in the industry to offer image stabilization on their digital cameras (digital camcorders excluded)...now they offer them in their entire line even on the small zooms.

If she is willing to carry a slightly larger but more capable camera with a manual focus ring and more...go with the FZ-20

BUT my guess the reason you are looking at the S2 is for the large zoom...while maintaining somewhat of a small size am I right? If so the FZ-20 is overkill...but if she does want the big zooms...the ultimate camera may be around the corner and it is a compact 10x zoom and by Nikon:

Zoom is nice but too much without a tripod causes blurry pics.

Granted it is nice to have the option, right?

Image stabilization is worth a lot especially with video recorders.

I am a firm believer in SLR, except for small portable point and shoot cameras.

The digital Rebel may be down close to $500 with all of the upcoming rebates. Worth taking a look at. Then you can swap out lenses and get things like high zoom, image stabilization, etc. (Just remember, SLR = big and heavy.. so if thats not acceptable, ignore SLR!)

Yes!

Saturday works better for me, since I don't get out of work at 4am that morning, like Sunday.

I will see if I can get half the night off then I wouldn't have to go in till 10pm.

You say sleep in like 9 or 10:00am is late.

Very glad that you are coming out to the Twin Cities.

Ok this Saturday Nov 12 at 1pm is the time, Papajoey will show up around 2pm.

Lets just finalize the location as we could meet up first waiting for others to arrive (ie papajoe) and chatting about cars...somewhere warm.

THen go on a short drive (max hour long, but a drive isn't required).

Then meet up again.

The one thing that would be great is an indoor underground parking lot...I can't think of one at the moment but hopefully soon ...also a place to meet up...I'd like to have it at my place but as ted knows it is a mess right now as we are remodeling....so someone's place or a public place/restaraunt/bar would be good too.

Lets figure it out in the next couple hours and I'll send out a mass email .

My place is available but it may not be central enough for everyone.

A-Pillar pods would be nice.

How often do you look at your guages?

More than an LCD?

The air bag doesn't come out of it only a string that drops down along the back side of it.

Couple of pics of the side air bag deployed:
