MINNESOTAns where are you?

ok I've seen under 10 in the state of minnesota not including those at the dealerships

I've gotten in contact with about 4 of you (left a message on your car)

curious how many more there are of you and if so please post here and maybe we can all meetup? Northstar Rotaries is a nice clubc but they rarely meet up and I'm talking about a specifically RX-8 meetup

rxforfun51 11-20-2004 01:21 PM

I haven't seen many 8's around either, especially here in Rochester. Been checking the MW forum from time to time to see if there's anything going on, but doesn't appear to be many Minnesotans with RX-8's. Either that, or we're a quiet group. Wouldn't mind getting together for a meet or whatever if you get some interest.

truemagellen 11-21-2004 02:42 AM

hey rxforfun51...good to hear from you, it would be great if we could organize something for the MN crowd...although it is quite around here

unfortunately I've been down to rochester often since my mother has been chronically ill over the past year...if I a trip is needed down there I'll get in contact with you

Truemagellen sorry to hear about your mothers illness, hope things will be ok for your mother and your family.
I live in Lakeville, and have seen only one red 8 out here and one green in the Burnsville area. Where do you take your 8 to have it serviced? Take mine to walser in Burnsville and have to say that they treat me great. Walser told me that they have sold alot of 8's to people in the Woodbury area. Let me know if you ever get anything going for all of the 8 owners in the area, would love to attend. Unfortunately this time of year is quite busy for most of us and I would assume that most of us will have our cars in storage very soon.

truemagellen 11-24-2004 11:04 PM

Hey Rev,
Thanks for your kind words,

I believe I've seen about 8 RX-8s around town...one of them, a Titanium I left a message for to join this club, another a green one I actually met at a wedding party for a my GF's friend, and a red one I met at the Microcenter parking lot, also recommended the club.

The others I've seen on the road are a red, titanium, a silver x2, and a Black one.

I think in the spring I'll try to organize a small event...I'd like to see any mods people have done or just hang out...I'm crazy about this car so it would be nice to discuss it with others (instead of online)

As for the winter, this is my only car so I already had winter tires put on...it has already made a huge difference in traction even on dry pavement (I went with Blizzak LM22s, stock tire size and will buy new rims and possibly tires in the spring)...I just found out recently there is a beater car I have access to so when it is really nasty out the 8 will stay in the garage.

I take my car to Morries Mazda, my family has been taking cars there since 1982, with a 1982 Mazda 626, then a Mazda Millenia S, and now I take my RX-8

I have gotten to know the some of the guys who work there, Jason (head manager), Jim, and Nick...I usually go to Jim since Jason is usually managing...I have had only great experiences with them and everytime I've had a warranty work or TSB they give me a loaner car for free...it is easy since there is an enterprise rental place in the building :) Just know that non-warranty service work probably costs more then other dealerships, from the work they have done I'd say it is worth it.

I've heard the Walser and Polar mazda also have good service departments, we are fortunate in the Twin Cities...for really complex work (ie install lighter flywheel, more advanced clutch, differential work, engine, etc.) I'd stick with Morries

-Jason
ps. if you need any help with mods I'm not an expert but I've gotten to know lots about the car through a few installs (especially in the audio and video department)

go to the dealership they gave me a good deal on 18inch (stock size) blizzak LM-22s and installed them the same day and gave me rental car for free since I had some TSBs I found :)

if you don't want to be buying a new set of rims in the spring which is what I'll have to do, last time I checked Morries Mazda (on 394W) had a 17inch wheel and tires package in stock...get down there quick!

Brandon 12-02-2004 02:01 PM

I may be one of the silver ones, I haven't seen another silver one driving around. I'm excited that it is snowing today because then I can see how my new snow tires work :D

I don't suppose anyone here had a red RX-8 at Morries a couple weeks ago, did they? I went for an oil change and there was one up on the lift with its engine out. A little sad, but I suppose nothing is perfect. It's amazing though, the engine looks so impossibly small when it's sitting on the floor without anything attached to it.

truemagellen 12-02-2004 03:14 PM

hey Brandon...I wonder if you are the silver that lives several blocks from me, possible :)

mamccubbin 12-03-2004 12:34 AM

I don't live in Minnesota, but I grew up in Apple Valley. I'll be up a couple of times in December for work and play. Look for the black 8 with the Wisconsin plates.

thats funny I go to Madison to play sometimes (and visit my brother who is still attending school there)...I went to UW Madison as well but now I'm working.

floetterle 12-11-2004 02:15 AM

I live in Minnetonka and have a yellow RX-8. I've had mine for about six weeks.

I regularly see a red RX-8 at the Fort Snelling LRT Park and Ride. I've also seen another yellow RX-8 around town. One came up the on-ramp next to me on I35W in downtown Minneapolis. I was so surprised I almost ran off the road. Other than that I have seen one black 8 with snow tires on 494.

I also use Morries. I have a 2001 Protege that I bought there.

I had Blizzaks put on the week before Thanksgiving because I was driving to Northern New York and back through Canada. I hit a couple of snow covered roads and the tires worked great. I can use my van though in the City when the salt starts to fly. Morries is actually storing my summer tires for me and will store my winter tires during the summer.

I work in Downtown Minneapolis but I also have an office in downtown Saint Paul. I have been driving alot for work lately and have been on the road quite a bit during the day.

I would be most interested in a some sort of meet with other RX-8 owners.

truemagellen 12-11-2004 02:19 AM

hey I work in downtown Minneapolis too...near the Hyatt hotel

never seen a yellow in minnesota, nice to meet you

Waaa! Stalker! Are you thinking of 35th and Dupont? Though a few days ago I saw another silver one uptown which looked exactly like mine, right down to the goofy snow tire setup.

MichRX7 12-16-2004 11:43 PM

There's a great club for all MN rotary vehicles:

right by Cedar Lake? :)

I wasn't the one in uptown...I had snows put on the stock rims so they are hard to tell

as for the Northstar Rotary club...I definitely plan on joining soon...I just wish there were more events...question to them is...if I joined could I make sure we have events more often? :)

definitely...we should all meet up

TV88 03-16-2005 11:42 AM

St. Anthony, huh? I'm just down the road in New Brighton. I work downtown Minneapolis on Washington, b/w Marquette & 2nd Ave.

I rarely see any RX-8s on my drive to or from work. Nice to have a little exclusivity...

truemagellen 03-16-2005 12:04 PM

hey you work on Marquett and 2nd ave?

I work on Nicollet and 12th

and can you believe it I saw 2 RX-8's this morning (Wed. March 16)...I've never seen two in one day except at a dealership

1. I saw a Yellow one owned by a member on here I know

2. and another one...a Titanium Grey with a guy in his 20s or so...was that you?

I drove next to this person while crossing Nicollet Mall near Peavey Plazda

Vortex 03-16-2005 05:11 PM

I'm still here, just been avoiding various forums the last couple of weeks/months due to work load.

I'm a maplewood guy, work downtown mpls on 2nd and 6th...yea smack downtown... and I drive out to stillwater twice a week and down to eagan once a week and on weekends.

I've seen very few 8's rolling down 36. I've seen a couple here and there at wild games last year, and a few on the west metro but I don't see a lot on the east metro side.

I'm also a member of the North Star Rotary Rockets. Went to one meet, but haven't have free time to meet up with the rest of the 7's.

So if you see a really dirty blue 8 in minneapolis, maplewood, eagan, or stillwater...that's me. One of these years I'm going to spring for vanity plates with Vortex8 on it...right now I can't the soon-to-be wife likes the current plate since the letters make her name...women what are you gonna do.

Haven't done much work on mine yet, just minor cosmetic things...blue lights in the interior, illuminated shifter, passenger alum. foot rest, fender strakes, and that's been about it. I'll do the flywheels later once warrenty is done and I'm thinking hard about cold air intake and tacking on a turbo...but I want others to be the test cases. I want to see how much wear and tear is done to the engine and if its still buggy. Exhaust will be replaced when the stock stuff rusts out, and I have more funds.

But if you guys ever meet up some place, keep me in the loop.

TV88 03-18-2005 11:50 AM

Truemagellan, that probably wasn't me you saw the other day. I have Silver '8. You can tell my car (for now anyway) by my winter wheel setup--17" Mazda 3 wheels.

I'm silver too so I'll look for you...I have stock rims with snow tires but rims will change in a month or so

I have white turn signals in the front, that is probably best way to notice me

fmcgraw 03-20-2005 02:45 PM

Just got my RX-8 this week!!

Hi guys,

I just got my Shinka this past Monday at Walser in Burnsville and thought I'd join in and say hello. I haven't driven it much yet, especially this weekend with all the snow, but can't wait for some warmer weather. I'll definitely be buying Blizzaks for next year, I just didn't expect to need them now.

I've really been waiting for a darker blue to be offered, I'm just not crazy about the winning blue, but when I saw the Shinka with the black cherry I had to check it out. Once I saw it, and took another test drive to be sure, I had to buy it.

If you decide to get together, let me know and I'll see if I can meet.

David

truemagellen 03-20-2005 03:31 PM

congrats on the new car David!

definitely we should all meet up...the Northstar Rotaries is a great club but do not meet frequently enough...besides this way it can be an 8-only event :D
