Thanks for the info. Probably wouldn't have been able to make it anyway, I was messing around in a parking lot in my Protege today and hit a hidden curb. Bent something in the front so I have to take a look tomorrow.
Just got through doing the first oil change. Oil looked a little dirty, don't know if that's normal for this engine or not. They used a K&N oil filter the last time, and it was only on a little past the gasket contact point (as in, hand tight). There was also no sealing washer on the oil pan drain bolt. I am starting to wonder about my previous assessment of the former owner's care of the car.
Also, the coilovers are so low it's difficult to get underneath even with the car jacked up. I'm going to raise them a bit, and may look into getting some normal style uprgaded shocks and springs next time home.

Chief, I wouldn't worry too much about dirty oil on this change due to no record of when the last one was or what kind of oil was used. If it looks bad on your next one, then there could be something going on.
On the coil-over note, if you decide to sell some time in the future let me know. I want to get a few hpde's in before going to coil-overs, but if the price is right and since you're local, i might be easily tempted.

Yeah, no problem. I'm looking at April/May timeframe. I'm headed back to work soon and will be gone for three months. I have already spent too much money (just bought an exhaust and some other things) and don't really want to deal with replacing the whole suspension system. Realistically neither I nor my wife will ever need the performance of coilovers on this car. Now, my RX-7 (when I get it restored), that's a different story!
Yeah I've promised to not buy anything more for the car until March at the earliest and need summer tires around then to boot. What exhaust did you get? How far along are you on the RX7? FB or FC? I know you posted it at some point, but forgot. If you ever need a hand with mechanical stuff send me a pm. I'm always happy to wrench away as long as it's not my car.
Got a Magnaflow, found a decent deal on eBay and I am pretty happy with the one I got for the Speed6. I was going to wait and get a Racing Beat one, but what the hell.
RX-7 is an FB. She's a 1981 GS that I have owned since new. Somewhat worse for the wear, she was stolen when I lived in Jersey a long time ago and the repairs weren't the best (didn't show up for a while though). I have big plans (widebody kit, TII engine, GSL-SE suspension which is already in hand), just need to get off my butt and quit spending money on the other cars.
I appreciate the offer for help, no one here really has the interest in helping and sometimes I can use an extra hand.

Anyone here know a good body shop that can do some work on my 8?

Got the Magnaflow installed tonight. Sounds pretty good, at least in the garage, but we'll see what the boss says. The instructions said there was a bolt welded onto the muffler for the ground strap, but mine didn't have one. Have to jury rig something up.
Got the factory front lip too, but you have to remove the whole front bumper so that will be tomorrow.

I've heard good things about the magnaflow, but haven't heard one in person. Hopefully she likes it. Surprisingly mine like my HKS. Good call on the front lip. I think it adds a lot to the look of the car. I'd offer to lend a hand, but tomorrow is my wife's only day off and she already has plans.

Yeah, I don't even ask, I know she'll tell me what we're doing. As far as the service manual, it's downloadable courtesy of Caveney here on the forum. Service Manual
The Magnaflow is sexy! I even get some pops on upshifts.
On another note, does anyone know any tricks to keep the gas from overflowing when filling the tank? I did on the first two fillups, didn't this morning but it was close. I am just wondering if this is characteristic of the car, or if there is something wrong with ours.

Kellibell - No meets that i know of, but i'm up for one if everyone wants to get together.
Cheifmg - mine overflows a little if i'm not careful. As long as you don't top it off too much and pull the pump out just a little and let it drain, it won't spill out everywhere. It's a bit annoying when you're in a hurry though.

Hey bud, aren't you suppose to be occupied?! Thanks for the advice.
Much to my surprise the horns are not located behind the bumper cover. So now I have to look through the manual to see where Mazda hid them. Front lip looks nice though.

Still have the iPhone to surf while she shops. Never looked for the horns, but I'm surprised that they aren't behind the bumper. Huh, I learn something new everyday. Glad th install went well.
Horns are located ahead of the front wheels in the fenders (near as I can tell from the manual). I'll be looking into that tomorrow. If the picture in the manual can be believed they are similar to the Fiamms I have to install. Guarantee they won't be as loud as the Fiamms though...At least that will make the install easier.
I confirmed the horns are located just above and a little inboard of the oil coolers. The front wheels have to be removed, I'm still looking for a 21mm socket that will fit in the lug recesses on these ASA winter wheels. So far no luck, I don't know how the place we bought it from did it. Might have to give them a call.
A thin wall 21mm should work. I have one, but it's cracked and I need to replace it. I'm thinking of ordering some that are plastic coated to not scratch the wheels. You're welcome to mine if you want to give it a shot. It works with my Ro_Ja's so it should work with yours as well.
