almost anything can be made to handle well.
70 or 71 camaro could be a decent start if you wanted to go classic. not as expensive as the 1st gens, faster, lighter, and still a great looking car if your into them.

I haven't ruled out the option of going to the "dark side" and getting something like that, but it would have to be a cash buy, so that rules out any Z06, or any C5, for that matter. An early C4 with the Z51 would be interesting, but I hate the footwell, and have big feet. My dad is trying to talk me into buying a "classic car", but I like handling too much. Any ideas?

How about a Boxster S? They had some issues in the early years, but 2001 should be sorted out. When I lived in CA, my boss had one and we hit 120 going up the 880. Hard to tell it was going that fast.

I may or may not be at Fuel Saturday, trying to get across to the morons who arrange my travel that I don't have to be in the port a day before I'm scheduled to join, as the ship is in a shipyard and isn't leaving for a couple of weeks. Right now they have me heading out Saturday afternoon, as usual I got the flights after the wife had made us reservations at a B&B for Saturday night.
So what is your budget James? Under 10K? Somewhere there is a Z28 out there that isn't too ragged out. The problem with Camaros from the 70's and 80's are rust. I had a 74 and it rusted out just looking at it. Plus anything before the 90's is a pig unless you gut the engine and build it.
The difference between a daily driver and a track car is pretty wide. I think what Kevin wants is a track car since his BMW will do DD just fine. Are you looking for the same?

I have to get down to Fuel one of these days again. I'm off on a family reunion Saturday. I'd rather be at Mid-Ohio to watch the ALMS. Next week I'm in Guadalajara and Mexico City on biz. I'll get to practice ordering beers in Spanish again por favor muchachos.

I will be no where close to that any time soon, but the car has plenty of ability to grow with me at the track. The RX8 is awesome at the track and has some room to grow with me, but not being able to add power cheaply or easily in the future while still worrying about engine longevity is really what is making me look elsewhere. I drove it work yesterday. I already miss the progress sways.
i've never driven a car that responds so well to suspension mods.
meh, C4's are junk anyway. The best handling of them pales in comparison to the C5's and the C6's are still better than that. They all have shitty GM interiors, but the C6 has been the best of the bunch so far.
Kevin or BB8, any idea where i can find pics of this bumper on it's previous previous owners car? I have a feeling there's a gap by the hood.
How do you guys interpret this ad?

Wouldn't be a bad project car for 10K.

James, have you seen the red 944 that's for sale on Riverside Dr right before you get to Fuel? It's on the left side as you are heading east. I haven't seen any price on it, from 20 feet away it looks decent.
Saner heads prevailed and I'm leaving tomorrow. Wife and I stayed at the B&B last night, dropped by Fuel briefly. Saw Jason but no one else I know. There were several Alfas and BMW 2002s there, one of the BMWs was a sweet looking copper color with fender flares.

Sorry I missed you Kevin.
Steve, the ship is in a shipyard in northwest Spain right now. It was supposed to be a month which would mean leaving around the 18th, but I'm not so sure they would have been able to get everything done in that period. I'll find out Monday. After that it will be back to normal trading, loading in Nigeria and discharging in Europe or Mexico (or anywhere else they send us).

I don't know if it's anybodies kind of thing, but I have a good friend who's looking to trade a bike and 260z. I havent seen the bike in person but it looks very nice in pictures. I know the 260 is very clean! he put it up on craigslist a while ago:
1974 Datsun 260z (4spd)
But what about something like this too?:
93 Twin Turbo Rx7
Lightweight, powerful, under warranty

i saw that on CL. It would be a cool deal and i'm a fan of the old 240/260 Z's. Neither the bike or the car are really good for the track though, so it's not really what i'm interested in.
Oh yeah, i may be selling my wheels and tires outright depending on the deal i work out with Tact in the next week or so. I'm thinking ~$700 for them if you're interested

I saw that ad for the 260z+Triumph deal.
I honestly sat down and had to think long and hard.
260Z's are the rarest of the 240/260/280z's and Triumph bikes aren't too bad.
But I can't let go of the rotary. I'm not ready to retire yet.

Trip, interrupted. Left Cincy ok, got to Dulles and there were storms. We didn't have enough fuel to circle (which is not a very comforting thought) so diverted to Richmond VA for fuel. Got there and Dulles had a ground shutdown, so got off the plane for an hour. By the time we got back into Dulles, it was an hour after my next flight was scheduled to leave and I found out it had left on time. So I spent three hours standing in line to get things straightened out. Same flights just a day later. Got one of their discount coupons for the hotel, paid $78 for what I discovered this morning in normally a $499 suite. Which is nice.

... maybe not. A Lotus Elise might be something to look at for Kevin?? Hard to find but I think they are priced very well used. This one's pretty far away, but I've seen deals like it before. I've always wanted one.

looks like you should jump on that James.
mr. broke. An elise is a possibility and seeing them for mid 20's isn't out of the norm. That one looks sketchy as does the dealership it's at though.
They couldn't even use english in the description.
