LOL - zip it on the evo wing jokes or I will beat you with my chop sticks - probably was Jeremy since he and I took his white 8 to Thursday Night Lights since my car was at the shop again.

On that note...

SERIOUSLY - ideas on why my car keeps eating through pilot bearings??? It costs a fortune to fix at the dealer however the reason I take it there is because IF they find the tranny is messed up I still have a warranty on it. They assured me it couldn't be anything I am doing - this time they said the seal on the pilot bearing failed...WTF - cost be ~$500. Not Happy. We asked them WTH is going on and I got no real answers. Is my car really that cursed...I may be looking for a Miata too at this rate, lol.

Someone has to look at what could be affecting the pilot bearing. Could be a problem with the recess it sits in (off center, ovalled, etc) or it could be a problem with the tranny input shaft. Since replacing the bearing hasn't treated the problem, it has to be something else.

And don't talk about a Miata like it's a bad second choice...

Miata would be my choice if you're looking for a track car. The damn things handle great right out of the box. Find a good used Mazdaspeed version (maybe Kings has the red one with 100K miles still for sale) and have at it. I'd like to take my wife's Miata and do some work on it, but she has little need for speed. She just likes to run into parking curbs.

Last day off as vacation ends today, so I painted the chrome bits below the fog lights. Easy to remove the entire assembly by pulling out the trim panel straight out and then remove two screws holding the plastic chrome part. Wet sanded it and multiple coated it with plastic-friendly satin paint. Looks pretty good. Sorry for the bad iPhone pic.

Steve, I didn't know the Miata was your wife's. You should buy my M45 'charger once I get it off. Then act innocent when she comes home after hitting the throttle in a corner and spinning out, wanting to know what you did. I can't wait to see what happens when my wife drives mine after installing the MP62. Probably be a ticket in there somewhere.

How much for the turbo?

I could tell her it gets better mileage with a turbo. We're one down in the turbo department once I sold the Speed6. All we have now is the CX-7 and that's a detuned version of the DISI.

I prefer the NC instead. MS are cool but, I like what I have been reading about the NC and it's capabilities. I wouldn't mind having one.

Wendy, the MS Miata is still at Kings. I bet they'll take a lot less than $9995 for it since it has 117K miles on it. It might be beat to death, but if you're going to rebuild one, it might be a good base.

I like the NC Miatas. My wife saw one at the Cincy Auto Show in Velocity Red/saddle interior and really like it. I'd probably wait for the new one coming out next spring with the Skyactive engine and lower weight.

I think the NC would look good all done up.

Tempting....wonder if they would be dumb enough to take my 8 in on trade, lol, she has a ton of new parts, like a brand new 8. I loved the look on their faces when I dropped Lucy off and left in our red 7....feels good to show them how long a real car should last - 204k miles with the original engine and probably original pilot bearing, grrrrrrr.

It's a supercharger, sorry for the confusion. On the plus side you have less to worry about with it compared to a turbo, no cool down time etc.

Got my Koni's yesterday, as well as some more aero stuff. Pretty excited to get something for the 8 on the same day. I am definitely done buying things for the 8. LOL The wifey is starting to question me about it, as well, she should. Otherwise, we can get out of control sometimes.

My wife is a supercharger. I get to pay her credit card statements.

We can get out of control. but we don't have a closet full of clothes waiting for a comeback.

Looking good for Fuel on Saturday. I have a golf thing at Reeves at 12 so that works pretty well for me to be at Fuel at 10.

Kings should give you the frequent customer discount.

I'll say Miatas are pretty much trouble-free. We had ours for about 5 years and the only problem has been normal maintenance and a CEL for an emissions issue popping on now and again. If the Miata had a couple more inches of width, I'd make it a daily driver. It's not size 11 shoe friendly with the clutch. 170+ HP would be a killer ride with the low weight it has.

Pics after paint on the chrome bits. I think looks a lot better than the chrome trim under the fogs on an S2

Steve, that looks great. I'm a fan of the understated look, and that nails it.

I did paint a big red circle with the number 69 in black on each door. Is it still understated or oversexed?

Unless you paint a big rebel flag on the roof, and an 01 on the doors, it's definitely understated.

Steve looks good, nice complement to the wheels. Found out my Professor's little bugeye Sprite has rotary power! He likes the rotary, he writes, "Very cool car that RX8. It sure wasn't recognized enough for the quick car that it is". My professor is a rotorhead!
