Getting a turbo for my new RX8
I just bought my RX8 several weeks ago and ordered a GReddy turbo. I've been told i can install it as is then I have others telling me I need to upgrade my engine. Everything is currently stock aside from the exhaust which is also on the way. What do you all have to say about the engine?

mazsport offers a greddy turbo upgrade that will give you more hp through the midrange. thanks for the plug munchie.
Are you buying the kit new or used? I would worry about your engine management before the turbo. I would also address your fuel system as well before the turbo.
If the turbo is in ill health, well that is a different story. I would suggest you PM other Greddy Turbo owners as well to get some feedback. Varneymazda has had his greddy kit for a while and has experienced many of the greddy issues. mysql as well.

Since this is a mazsport vendor thread, I won't get into anything greddy related here.
But as to the OP's question: Engine doesn't need modifications.
Any issues we've had has been posted repeatedly on the forum, so searching is the best route to get started.

ok, i don't want to be rude, but i am going to do it. if you wanted to get a car with more power then you should have gotten something else. why change something that's already perfect???

Consumers have their preferences and sometimes that includes being so fond of a product, you want nothing else but car A, and seek to improve upon where he or she may think it's lacking. You think it's perfect, enjoy yourself. Others don't and are willing to pay to enhance their driving experience.
Buying a faster may not be financially feasible. It might be easier for him to get a lesser car and make it what he wants it to be, which is what modding is all about. Also entertain the thought "what if he doesn't want any other car".
If he started talkin about rippin the engine out and swapping it with something that had pistons then I think the "why didn't you get a different car" question would be more appropriate.

Also, if you didn't "want" to be rude, then you wouldn't have posted.

YES. Think about it, why pay more for parts that will break even faster if they are not matched perfectly. For example: you get a turbo, after that you have to get a better intake, cooling radiator, fuel pump, exhaust and so forth. catch my drift?

Another point of view rationalizing aftermarket - I have a profound amount of love for my RX-8. I'd rather be driving my 8 with a little more juice so I'm getting an FI option soon. If offered a more powerful car in stock form, I'd still stick with my 8 though. I love everything about it. I'm sure there are a bunch of people who want to change various aspects about cars that they love rather than have a completely different car. Because, even if you had a completely different car, there are bound to be things that you'd want improved upon or changed. There is always room for growth.

^Definitally agree with that. I was thinking if i was given the choice to have a M3, or Turbo my 8 and put the kit i want on it. I would definitally pick the modded 8. I do love Stock M3's more than a stock rx8. But modding just makes it personal, and with it fully modded, it would just make it that much more special and unique to me.
