AP updates and data logging whent very smooth. Both files along with 11 deadly sent 10min ago.

Weird about the COM errors and the TCS lights.
The only time I've seen those is with a failed flash (which leads to a complete uninstall/reinstall).

 

as long as my PCM doesn't brick before the 24th I'll be happy.

 

The AP has an "anti-bricking" routine.
I've done it. It works.

That said, I have a line on PCMs, so I can usually get something figured out in short order.

You aren't going to trash the PCM easily.

Because my AP pulley and RP high flow cat should arrive this week so I'm gonna have to send you new logs once the new parts are installed.

 

I did some searching, but with so many AccessPORT threads it was a little halfhearted and I figured I would just ask here. I have been running the old MM base maps for a while now with no major issues, but I just installed an AEM cold-air-intake on Saturday. I did an initial check and everything seemed good, the car started, idled properly with a good idle AFR, coolant temps were normal, no codes were being thrown and it seemed fine when I drove it with AFRs in safe ranges. I was mostly watching to make sure it didn't unexpectedly lean out and saw no problems.

Yesterday I went out for a vigorous drive to see how it performed and it drove fine with AFRs looking fine still. The car sounds like a jet engine at redline now, but no complaints. After my drive however I noticed a strange smell in the car. I couldn't place my finger on what exactly it smelled like, but it was pretty strong. Today on my way in to work I think I figured out what it was. As I was driving in I was watching my AFRs and as I was driving much more sedately I noticed something that I had missed yesterday while driving hard. While the AFRs were not too lean they were way too rich for the load on the engine. When pushing the car at WOT I'm used to getting AFRs as rich as 11.1, but when driving quietly to work its normally closer to 13.5-14.5 AFR. This nets me about 18-20 MPG on the Average Fuel Economy display for the AccessPORT normally. Today on my way in, my AFRs were 11.1 anytime the throttle went over 20% or so regardless of how hard I was pushing it. My fuel level was also suspiciously low for my mileage (I use my trip every fill-up). I switched over to the fuel economy and saw I was doing 14 MPG. Woops!

Anyway, I think the change in the flow for the MAF has really confused the car and it's just dumping fuel. The smell was probably unspent fuel sitting in the exhaust and cat. It doesn't seem dangerous to the car, but is terribly inefficient.

Presumably I need to upgrade to the new MM base map and submit a datalog? Will an updated tune resolve my issue with the new MAF setup, or is there something else I need to do to get the AEM intake to play nice?

Sorry for the novel, any advice is appreciated.

 

sounds to me like you might want to update your AP and get a new map.

hey alien you never wrote up that installation procedure for the AEM intake! i know you already told me about it, but i think it would be good for other people to know as well. just saying =)

 

Oh thats right, you have the AEM intake too right Alien? Were/are you running it NA or boosted at this point and did you have the same issues? Were the problems fixed by updating the map? I'll update my AccessPORT and datalog tonight.

 

I am boosted with the greddy kit and the upgraded turbo from Jeff. I am having a little idle problem that I am trying to get fixed. I am waiting on the next map form Jeff wich should arrive soon to see if fixing the trims and getting the maf calibration correct fixes that little hiccup.

I am on the new maps so I never saw that problem. The day I installed the AEM I also installed the new base map. So I would suggest you do the same.

 

Hmm, well the new base maps do seem to run much better with the new intake. It still isn't acting quite right, but it drives better than it did with the older map and I should be able to datalog tomorrow and submit for a new map. I have to say the new MM system works nicely, being able to download the base maps, datalog with the tool and submit it makes it much easier for me... I'm sure it helps Jeff out a bit too!

 

Yeah, it is much easier. I sure hope I can get my car finalized soon. Cant wait to hit the track with it.

The AEM is one of the few (if not the only) intakes that works correctly right out of the box, so I doubt it.
It more likely that he had corrections in his calibration that are now negated by the intake.

 

I've yet to learn that sarcasm doesn't really work well in the written form. I don't have any fear that the AP will brick my PCM.

 

Its not that your sarcasm wasn't understood.
Rather, it is the fear that others won't get it (they wont - trust me) and two weeks from now I'll be soothing the brow of the screaming infants, fearful of bricking their PCM.

Yup, one of the main reasons I got the AEM intake as part of my collection of parts for my turbo setup. Other than the wonky AFRs with my previous maps it seems pretty nifty. I did my first short drive tonight, I'll do the second tomorrow morning en route to work and I should have a datalog by tomorrow evening.

Btw, you seem like a real whiz, what MPG does this thing get?? ....j/k

Hey MM, did that log I send you look ok? I think on the cruise the road went on the slightest of inclines. really small, you can probibily see it in my log right in the middle.. The beginning and end are perfect straightaways. that's why I took the log for almost a minute instead of 30 secs. I think the hill begins at 126 and ends at 379 going through my datalog..
