With the final date to order one of these looming ahead in just a week I'm trying to decide if I should buy one. I've done lots of reading and research on here and the mazda maniac site and understand what it does and how it works, but I'm just curious as to what magnitude of a change will be noticed. I know its different for every car but what would be a rough estimate for power increase? as well as other significant reasons to decide to purcahse one? Thanks for any help.

If you want to mod. your car at all you should buy this. If you don't find a use for it you will definitely be able to sell it for what you paid for it since others will value it.

Power increase depends on a lot of things. But this allows you to optimize your tune for your mods and your car. It also allows you to adjust other parameters such as redline, oil injection rate, SDAIS opening RPM, turning off CAT O2 sensor codes etc.

If you ever want to go turbo you will need to tune your PCM or buy a piggyback. Tuning your PCM is the best way to accomplish this and this tool will allow you to do it.

Plus you'll have access to Mazdamaniac's services. There isn't a better street tuner out there for our cars.

If anyone is still on the fence about buying one of these, I can't urge you enough to buy one right now.

I bought mine a few months back because I knew that, eventually, I wanted to go FI and then Cobb dropped their price, so I figured "what the heck", might as well buy it now. I never really used it except to scan and clear a few codes.

Then I got tuned at the MazdaManiac dyno day in Toronto. All I can say is WOW. Car feels completely different! No more mid-range sluggishness, smooooooth power delivery and that rough idle? Almost gone. Feels like a brand new car, WAY better throttle response and I can't shake the feeling that the car feels lighter (how many parts did you steal off my car Jeff? ). I'm so glad I didn't sell this car now.

Buy it. Get tuned. Even if you don't plan on doing turbo/sc, get tuned. You WON'T regret it. This is now my #1 "best money spent" mod.

Nevermind I guess there was a totally different access port version available before but not for the RX-8. The AP as we know it is a Version 2.

Question:

On the Cobb, you can look at OMP rates. What is considered normal?

Yes you can.

There isn't a "normal" rate as the rate varies based on Load and RPM. Values are between 3 and 60.

I will look more closely today but at idle it was showing 7/7 or something along those lines. I am having issues with my SOHN reservoir not emptying as fats as usual so I am trying to determine if my OMP is still good or not. I am not getting any codes but I have been told it can go bad even though it test good.

It would only work if they did the proper uninstall from their car before selling it. If not Cobb will charge you like $350.00 to do it.

It depends on what mods you have or contemplate acquiring.....Also it depends on type of tune you want an exotic tune or a mileage tune. If you even thinking of FI you'd better get one while you still can.

Customers get, through the process, one final calibration which will encompass all the best possible operating conditions to yeild best power and fuel economy.
In the end, there really isn't any difference between a "mileage" tune and a "power" tune.

I suggest reading the "Instructions Instructions" thread.

Sorry about the misinformation.....I am a little behind the times I guess.

Looking at the gauge on my laptop running the Hymee it looks like I never run lean running the Stage 1 but here is the data (sorted by high rpm segment).

As is the case with ALL RX-8s, the results from any OTS tune are gonna be all over the map.
That is why I've never offered and OTS tune - everything is custom.

There are quite a few people that have loaded up my base map and seen sudden massive improvements in power, fuel economy, etc. This is not the norm, just as having the Cobb Stage I work properly out of the gate is not the norm.
