Hillard won't accept responsibility. The f*ckers. I pretty much b!tched out the manager on duty and he refused to say his dealership did it. When I told him that I didn't trust his service department enough to leave my car alone with them while they did the repairs - that either myself or Boxrs would have to be present, he told me it would be best if I took my car elsewhere.

I'm spreading the word about this and urging everyone to not go to Hillard for any Mazda service:

All –

Please DO NOT take your vehicle to Hillard Mazda for ANY type of service WHAT-SO-EVER. I took my RX8 there for an oil change on Feb. 28. Nothing was wrong with the car when I took it in and it came out with a rattle. I find out that the frame bracket was bent and a couple exhaust hangars are knocked up and out of place effecting the power band. This type of damage was determined to be fresh by an insurance adjuster and can only happen if the car is bottomed out, which we all know I certainly did not do. The only time this could have happened is when it was not in my care at Hillard Mazda. I explained the situation to a manager at Hillard Mazda who in turn was not pleasant to deal with and even though there are records on file stating my complaint of the rattle immediately after the oil change, Hillard Mazda refuses to accept responsibility.

My car is being fixed at Hiley Mazda in Hurst, who has been incredibly pleasant and easy to deal with. They are bending over backwards to have my car repaired in time for me to take it out of town today. Unfortunately, it’s being repaired out of my pocket. I’ve officially learned my lesson.

Just want to share so ya’ll don’t have to go through the same thing. I know Hiley isn’t down the street, but the 15-20 minute drive is worth it to me.

so I take it you think pretty Hiley of the place your car is at now then? (yeah corny I know)

seriously though, that sucks to hear and bets of luck with everything, I myself just had a nightmarish experience with my car still being in the body shop, while the shop I have taken it too for the rear end/hail damage combo has been supreme, there is some drama involving parts that were ordered for the car I will be creating another thread about.

While on the topic of dealers, i would like to just point out that when i take my car to Ttown North they make sure nobody drives the car. It usually comes back with less than .5 miles on the car.
The last two times i didnt even ask, but the service manager was like... just to let you know, nobody but me ever drove the car.

Very Cool.

Told ya...

I have to second that. They have been incredible with me and all of my problems. No questions asked, always honest, and do an excellent job.

Sounds like they're really getting to the "root" of the problem.

So let see you orginally posted on Wednesday hoping to get your car back by Friday. Did you get your car fixed in "tree" days and were you able to take it to the BBQ?

Update: I told Hiley to fix it and it was ready in time for the BBQ.

BUT - when I got in it to drive home after Boxrs picked me up from work, there was another problem. I got in and pushed/pulled the shift **** while in neutral, just to check to make sure I'm in neutral (it's a habit, but ya'll know what I'm talking about). There was NO RESISTANCE at all when going back and forth. The center zone was all limp and you can hear a rattle inside when idling. While driving you can move the shift **** while it's in gear!!! Once home, I took apart the center console and the short shifter and saw that the tranny is 1/4"-1/2" misaligned - moved over to the right of the gear box. NOT GOOD!!! They're supposed to be directly lined up. I took it back to Hiley on the way out of town and we took the Honda to the Q. I'm calling tomorrow to get the status and a loaner while they figure out the problem.

You're very welcome!!!

Update: According to Hiley, the short shifter's bearings caused the misalignment. They say that everything is lined up correctly underneath. I gave them a stock shifter and they're ordering me a new one to replace it. There isn't anything wrong with the shifter I gave them, but they need it to send to Mazda to have the "bad" shifter replaced. I'll have to send my RP shifter to Richard to have it replaced. The service guy recommended not installing the short shifter again. I haven't had a chance to talk to Richard or research this any. Anyone have any thoughts on the topic? BTW, I've driven roughly 24k miles on the short shifter.

Keep us posted. I'm curious as to what Richard will have to say about this. I don't really see how the bearings could cause the tranny and the gear box to become misaligned. Interesting....
