The Dead Spirit of the Tree Has Come Back to Haunt Me

Remember that tree I killed? Well it's back.

Quick Old Background: I killed a tree.

Quick Recent Background: I took my 8 for an oil change the first week of March. When I got it back I heard some funny noise - a rattle from the center/front of the car. I don't really think much of it (other than it was incredibly irritating) and turn up my music to drown out the noise. I figure it would get fixed the next time I got an oil change in approx. 6 weeks.

This week: I replace two bald tires with two new tires so the ride to Oklahoma is less noisy from the road. I take my car to Hiley Mazda of Hurst to have the rattle fixed. The service guy takes it for a drive, comes back and says, "I hear it and it's bad." They put it up and tell us that the frame bracket is bent up instead of flat, causing the rattle noise and an exhaust hangar is bent so far up that there is no room for a matchbox to fit through the space. It’s an easy fix – just bend it back taking about 2 hours of labor. They say the car must have bottomed out for this to happen. When did I bottom out you may ask? A year ago when I killed the tree. I not only bottomed out, I scraped the crap out underneath my car with a curb.

I call my insurance company to re-open my claim and that goes smoothly with the only exception that an adjuster has to come out and look at the damage. When can an adjuster come out? In 24-48 hours. That’s as of noon today. 48 hours from noon today is noon on Friday. I don’t even know if there’s more time to cut a check or if work can begin as soon as the adjuster says yes.

The alternate mode of transportation is a Honda. I wonder what my fellow rotorheads will say at the OK BBQ this weekend... ??? :D:

oh no! Your car must have been really close friends with a Silver before you bought her....

BigOLundh 05-24-2006 08:30 PM

I say have the insurance come look at it asap, dont wait for the check and get the repairs, go to OKC, then come back and have the insurance people pay the dealer.
The dealer knows you well enough by now to probably let you leave with the work done for a few days.

dmorales 05-25-2006 12:18 PM

Dazy, I'm sure there is somebody here or from the RX-7 Guys that would fix it for you. You should try that. It doesn't seem like a complicated problem, maybe it's just a matter of equipment, and a little know-how.

Dazy....... Are you trying to compete with me for bad luck?

very

funny.

Jedi - I think you're right. If I wasn't able to get a red one, silver was my next choice.

DMorales - in order to fix the problem, they have to melt the metal bracket and mold it back into place. It didn't sound like an easy fix.

No Sam, it's not towards the trunk.

Slim - You can gladly have the title for bad luck. BTW, how's everything on your end?
Harry - I'll ask if they'll fix my car without payment so I can take it this weekend. I don't know for sure though. They may not be as trusting as we'd like them to be.

So what is the status on the 8? Are you going to lumber around in the honda?

Fine you can take mine.

As long as you go ahead, and change the oil, Purchase and installthe Espelir Cat-back I want, and fully detail it. Oh and you may want two new tires on the Rear, but that's optional. :)

And of course you have to leave something for me to drive!

Ok, ya'll have done well with the puns.

I haven't heard back from the insurance company yet, but at least Hiley has identified the "root" of the problem. ;)

Update: The adjuster came out and said the damage is clearly new damage. There are scratches all along the underbody and no signs of rust or age.

Interpretation: Hillard Mazda f’d up my car. I’m hold now with them because the manager on duty won’t pick up the phone.
