But twisties are a form of acceleration, which includes any change in speed or direction. Not sure how to make this *.gif file will display correctly. Just playin' with ya, BTW.

^ dude.... most people can only accelerate in a straight-line either due to lack of driving skill or vehicle impotence in that area. Anything else is like calculus all over again.

Plus this whole thing is on straight line acceleration.

.... from a roll. Must not forget FROM A ROLL!!!
I am reminded of stories of kills in SRT4 and mazdaspeed 3 forums against WRXs and EVOs. Road surface must be smooth and dry too.

Well, it doesn't have to be. Personally, I enjoy all kinds of acceleration: straight line, curves, braking. If you read my earlier posts in this thread, you'll see I have no illusions about the 8's straight line performance, specificially against a Camry V6 on a 1/4-mile drag strip, but that's not the only measure of a car. On the street, my stock 8 is plenty fast for me on my twisty mountain commute but it's a bit on the heavy side compared with my Miata. Both are much better for me than a Camry, which is also a great car ... for my in-laws.

Hint: it's not the RX8.
wow 15.9 that better be an auto.....it all comes down to the driver if you can drive your 8 or not..i seen 8 run as fast as mid 14's and at slowest i seen them run 15.3 in person so i think 15.9 in a stick theres something wrong with the driver, if not the driver go back to mazda an get your engine checked.

you do realize 0-100 and 1/4 mile are different things right?

A modded RX8 may accelerate faster, but I would say it's going to be very close! I have never seen any proof of an NA modded RX8 that has cracked 100 mph in the quarter. The Camry did 99.9 mph.

I'm not sure why everybody is hung up on "the drag strip" thing. You're never going to run into a Camry at a drag strip, or race one from a stoplight. I agree... it's ridiculous and not "real world."

However, say you're entering the highway, you're trying to merge, and a Camry is being a *** hat and not letting you in. You gun it, because you're in your twisty-owning-curve-hugging-super-awesome-looking-rotary-powered-freestyle-door-equipped-sports-car, and so does he.

To accelerate from 60-90mph, the RX8 requires 6.9 seconds.
To accelerate from 60-90mph, the Camry requires 5.5 seconds.

That piece-of-junk-slush-bucket-wrong-wheel-drive-looks-like-a-turd-Camry is going to make the you look silly. You're not even going to get the chance to yell at him "Yah, but if there had been some cones in front of us, I would have kicked your ***."

I hate this, but it's true.

At least a couple of us in this thread saw a V6 Camry at the drag strip last Sunday. His time was better than all 4 RX-8s running that day.

Oh... no kidding... didn't think anybody would do that with a Camry.

No kidding! I was like, well, you know, the RX-8 is not really a 1/4-mile dragstrip car, and we both started laughing as he said, well, my Camry is not really designed as a dragstrip car either, you know. Nonetheless, I wouldn't ever consider trading my 8 for a Camry.

Since when would she be excited you drive an unreliable, slow, gas guzzling, 4 seater hard top Miata tank?

LoL

I love my 8 and ironically my ex GF has the new Camry.. Those things look like Gozilla's face (Godzilla 2000 with the long and low boxy/pointy chin...)

I have a tough time envisioning this scenario in real life. Highway merging does not start at equal speeds. Anyone with a half a brain will not try to out accelerate a car that is clearly rolling on momentum on the hwy. Imagine a Mack truck barrelling down the hwy lane at that speeds, even a 911 coming off the ramp would know better to not perform such stupid maneuvers. The Mack truck has the velocity momentum. Cars coming off the on ramp do not, unless your exit velocity already matches hwy speeds already.
We all know how well the rx-8 takes on-ramps so its exit velocity should be much better than most car. Imagine with an inferior handling car say... a muscle car that has to take a typical on ramp at half the speed (sad but true in the 21st century) as a Civic. Momentum lost, has to rely on pure muscle to get back up to speed.

Oh. Okay. So you're poking fun at so-called "muscle cars" aka the GTO aka what YaX drives?

Do you have a Gtech or some other brand of accelerometer, delhi?

Ahh I read your sig. Sorry, we don't have this GTO in People's Republic of Canada. Pontiac G6 is likely nearest cousin, even so, it is in a slow coma death. Instead we have Acural EL and SMART.... heh.
