i didn't get my first car until i was a sophomore in college.... and, it was a piece of crap '88 chevy nova... <lol> prior to that, i took the bus everywhere. so, i know how to appreciate what i have now... that said, my most recent car prior to getting the 8 is a '99 bmw 323i- which, i still drive as a daily driver... 107,000 miles and still counting...

hmm...just noticed this thread now for some reason. Well, my first car was a geo metro 3cylinder 5spd hatchback. I paid $1 for two of them. they were previous delivery cars at my dads shop. Both of them virtually scrap. one had a bad engine (burned valve) and the others tranny was dead. So they made a receipt for $1 dollar and i went to work. made one semi working car out of the two. road that until i was out of highschool.

Next, i got a 1991 suzuki swift GTi. its the big brother to the metro i supose. 1.3L 4 cylinder DOHC 16Valve. it had these fancy factory recaro seats and a cool steering wheel, not to mention twice the horsepower of the metro and closer gearing with uprated suspension. I drove this for a few years. crashed it once and repaired it for free (had some good friends all into these cars that came to my rescue, as i have theirs over the years). I really liked this car, but after putting 3 trannies and an engine in it in 2 years, that was it for me.

Then i decided i wanted something nice and newish. So i bought a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart. I've been an Evo fanboy all my life and at the time, this was the closest thing mitsubishi would give us to an evo (evos were never sold here and were not importable to canada at the time, which i realized has changed now). I loved this car, and still do. I put 80 000km on it in one year and never got tired of it. 2.4L mivec 4 cylinder made more torque than my 8 and was lots of fun in the twisties for a FWD car. I bought an evo spoiler for it. HIDs and other things that were really no big deal. I was teatering on the edge of dropping lots of coin on an aftermarket turbo kit and LSD. But it came time to do a timing belt on the engine and it seemed like alot of work.

I got a new job at a mazda dealer and drove an rx8 for the first time. seems like about 2 weeks later i was behind the wheel of my own 8. I often miss the lancer. It was such a good car. so easy on parts. Like i said, 80 000km in the last year i owned it and it never ever so much as ran rough. But looking back, it just cant offer what the 8 does. The style and the pure driving pleasure come to mind. In a perfect world i'd have the lancer as my winter car and the 8 as my summer car. Attached is a pic of my suzuki, my lancer, and the 8. As much as i love my 8, i can see in the next few years trading it for something that suits me more. either an STi or an Evo8 or Evo9 (which are now importable to canada) because rx8s just cant go the places i like to in the winter. I had to take my firends VW to tall pines last year and that just made me sad.

hope you enjoyed the read, and for those who dont want to read it all (im really bored and i ramble when im bored)

1. 1996 Geo Metro 3 cyl
2. 1991 Suzuki Swift GTi 1.3L DOHC 16Valve
3. 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliar 2.4L Mivec
now the 8

Toyota Paseo 99

Turboed, suspension redone a few times to get it just right. Was about as fast as a WRX, but handled better. Made more torque than the RX8 hehe. Unfortunately, at some point I left it with a mechanic to find an oil leak under strict instructions not to beat it because the manifold that was on the car at the time was a temp placeholder while I had a better one done up. The problem with that (stock) manifold is there is a bolt that goes right through runner #3 (genius design at work), creating a big restriction. When I got back he was like "yeah man, I didn't find where the oil is coming from, but your car is pretty fast!" I was like "you did what?!". Anyway, it drove fine but soon thereafter I started noticing oil spraying up through the valve cover breather... checked compression and #3 cylinder was finished. I can't really prove anything, maybe it wasn't even his driving that cracked the piston but the fact remains.. I couldn't justify rebuilding it any more... wanted to move to RWD.. so here we are..

Dayum that's a nice list.

I had:

01 Chevy cavalier 4spd auto. The dealer ripped us off and we were supposed to get the LS version that had 150hp instead of 115. Also, we were supposed to get power windows, but guess what? They forgot to do that too. Me and my bros car, had some good fun with it.

94 Chrysler Intrepid. Epic car, I could do anything with it and it would always run. Pretty damn torquey and can hold a **** load of people!

98 Honda Civic coupe. The best workhorse ever, and plus it was manual

Now I have the..... WAIT FOR IT

WAIT FOR IT!!!

That's right you guessed it!!!

The MAZDA Rotary Experiment 8!!!!
