You have been showing quite a bit of care for someone that doesn't care

That engine picture is scary, you can see by the three studs on the left head, there is no exhaust system in place - that's gonna crowd it up quite a bit more.

Here is another pic of the engine on a stand, with the exhaust in place, but no suspension to note how low it sits:

Agreed the turbo would be low, but it can't be under the engine. Forward is the radiator, left and right are the suspension bits, and rearward is the bottom of the firewall.
You'd a thought that Toyota could have come up with something a little smaller/sweeter sounding/boostable than this mechanical monstosity from a Subaru.... although I guess Porsche has done ok with such a design. I wonder how close the two designs really are...just seems so huge and full of wheels, pulleys, housings and such.

I'm pretty surprised the numbers turned out as bad as they did. Right or wrong, that will turn a lot of people away that might have considered this car.

They did another test and now its faster with Motor Trend

http://www.motortrend.com/roadtests/...ed_first_test/

"At 2747 pounds, the BRZ is 160 pounds heavier than the 2012 Mazda MX-5 Miata Special Edition hardtop, but offsets the added weight with an extra 33 hp. In other words, the Subaru's weight-to-power ratio of 13.7 pounds per pony betters the Mazda's 15.5. Unsurprisingly, the BRZ, which measures 9.4 inches longer and around 2 inches wider and taller than the Miata, proved a hair quicker, scooting from 0 to 60 in 6.4 seconds (versus the Miata's 6.5) and through the quarter mile in 14.9 at 95.5 mph (versus 15.0 at 90.2).

Has Subaru announced anything new about the STI? I read a while back that it wouldn't have a turbo, not sure if anything has changed.

Just that there will be a turbo'ed fa20, but they won't say that it will be a turbo BRZ. Implies that the turbo fa20 will be used elsewhere.

^ Don't agree on the Tiburon thing, but lol what you would expect from Toyota and Subaru, not exactly on the cutting edge of car styling. And in fact, it is cheap... by design. That was a major goal of the development, as they have stated many times, there are plenty of pricy, high powered sports car around, and they wanted an any man afforadable sports car. That has to show tru in the result one would imagine.

I love the look of the BRZ but its kind of lacking... I would pay more for it to be a awd with a good turbo setup... Atleast make it so it would provide a little competition to wrx...

the boxer engine provides good balance and performance.... the car wouldnt handle as well without the boxer engine.... changing the spark plugs on a boxer engine sucks ***** though... lol

I'm kind of surprised to see so much hate for this car. I'll agree that it probably got too much hype, but I haven't seen enough to feel that it's a bad package. First off, it's nice to see a new sports car platform being released. I think we should be hoping it does well enough to continue and give manufacturers more reason to develop the sports car market.

I think people have their expectations a bit too high. Considering the price, I think it still might be a pretty good platform. The looks are subjective, though I'm surprised so many hate it. I'm not going to say it's the coolest design ever, but I think it looks pretty good. I may be facing a ban for a comment like this, but I've never been a fan of the NC MX-5 design and would readily take the BRZ's design over it. Pending further performance tests, it seems promising for the price range. If more numbers are showing up similar to the motor trend numbers, then I would have no problem calling it a good buy.

Generally speaking, companies already have enough competition. They don't need to be competing with themselves. That said, I think it could have a high end package that competes with the wrx peformance, but still wouldn't be direct competition due to size.

It would definitely be nice to see a turbo version with awd from Subaru. Even a small bump in power would make a significant difference and get a lot of attention. It would be key to make sure that the change in power to the wheels is enough if using an awd system. I'm not sure how likely it would be for them to go with awd on that platform, but it would definitely be interesting to see.

Well, on the looks department, the car is fine.
A bit on the conservative side, but that's fine, most cars are.
Not everyone wants to drive a Landshark, oops, I meant a BMW Z car.

As for the power, if they crank up the power, then the car loses its original purpose, which is to be a small sporting car, with nimbleness and agility being its main selling points.

Its only competition is the Mazda MX-5, as its the only car in the market that is all about how the car makes you feel when you drive it right now, for under $30k.

In the one "faceoff" article so far, the BRZ seems to have made a strong statement for what it is. A fun car to drive and own.

What we probably will see is TRD offering a power kit of some form for the Scion version. If they will allow the Subaru owners to install the same kit would be an interesting thing to see.

I'm looking forward to getting a chance to sit in one, and look it over in a couple of months when they start hitting dealership lots. Too long to get this car to market.

BC.

The exterior is ok. It's missing some sharp edges and seems a little underwhelming. What I love is the interior! I Love it! It reminds me of the older 80's Japanese Spartan/racing styling interiors.

^ lol that's the thing most annoying to me when I look at the overall style - the 80ish style interior! Frumpy, blockie, and busy with stuck on styling items - almost home made looking - been there - lived thru it - done with it - euuuuh!!

I generally like the interior design. Not a huge fan of the dash, but I like the parts that are just focused on simplicity.

I think they just want to get this model out and buying time to make an sti ver later that is fitted with a turbo... currently they haven't said a word about it because they want people to buy the initial release...

Subaru has already said that the STI version will not be turbocharged, just a "tweaked" version of the NA boxer motor.

Tonight marks the 2nd one I have seen on the road. Looks good - wonder what the markup currently is.

I plan on looking really close at Subaru version if there is not a RX-8 replacement in the future. Hopefully when I am ready to buy a new car Mazda has something like it or a rotary. I love my rotary!

Yup, so far I have seen 2 as well around the Hartford area. Mind you both were close by a dealership so they could have very well been dealer vehicles.
