^ correct. Go find engine bay pics. It is PACKED. The exhaust is just as tight.

The only way to fit the plumbing would be removal or relocation of quite a bit. People will do the former, the factory can't. The factory may do the later, people probably can't.

 

I do not think there were any pics of the engine bay of the STi concept but I doubt it would come without a turbo. Also TRD is working on a supercharger.

 

Agreed, not saying it's impossible, but to get it to fit, they woulđ need to relocate a bunch. A taller hood would probably give the S/C clearance needed.

IMO, I think the pricing is fare give it a few years and the market will find a way to stuff a turbo in there. Looks are good, not my fav but whatever, +1 on the Japanese combo. Much better than the Eagle Talon Mitsu Eclipse days! Can't wait to see how it performs once tuned.

......With that said still prefer the 8 hands down.

Just in case nobody has been reading the news, Subaru has a 270hp turbo version of FA20 that's planned to go in the WRX. I think that a turbo FR-S is a real possibility.

...or bigger wheels. The wheels would be the first thing I would change if I bought one. Those stock wheels are terrible ugly.

This is also one of those cars where I can see massive dealer markups when they first come out.

 

I'm going to consider purchasing one when they appear. Probably the Scion version due to the mouth guard the Subaru has on the front bumper, but I'm not 100%.

I still have an 8 and just bought a Veloster, which I'm not too keen to. So, I'll end up trading the V in most likely.

Scion added it to their website with the different color options. Most likely grab a white or orange.

 

If Mazda could put a new rotary with a legit 250hp in a lightweight car like the FRS or BRZ and bring it in under 30k loaded, now would be the perfect time to bring it out. It would instantly take out the Scion and Subaru in performance and grab market share. The trend is going towards smaller, lightweight sports cars to comply with CAFE standards going forward. Mazda is better off going this route rather than trying to chase cars like the Z and Genny Coupe in performance with a rotary engine.

 

I don't think it would, man. I wouldn't drop the possibility of purchasing a BRZ or FRS if Mazda came out with something like that, and I consider myself the target market for these cars. Also, Mazda hasn't even proven they can develop a CAFE friendly rotary yet.

What my post was getting at is that a new rotary car needs to have more direct competition/comparisons to help with sales. I think the RX-8 being a "sports car like no other" actually may have hurt it some since it didn't really have any close comparisons for cross-shoppers...the 350Z probably being the closest.

For the price and performance, I would almost think you'd be better off buying a used '09-'11 RX8 than the BRZ or FR-S. I would think the 8 would outperform the other 2, their main advantage being way better mpg, plus I'll guarantee you'll be paying sticker on the Subaru at first...not worth it, IMO.

 

For that kind of money, if I were buying new, I think would get a 2013 Genesis with the 274hp 2.0T.

 

2700 lb and 270hp...that's what the RX-8 should have been, or the next rotary car should be...if they can just figure out the pesky mpg issue.

 

The Genesis Coupe is too big for my liking, but it is good performance for the money. When the new Mazda 6 comes, I wish they would offer a coupe version that would compete with the Genesis Coupe. I think there is plenty of room in the sports coupe segment for more players assuming they would be similarly priced. I hope Mazda does something...they really need a halo car and it doesn't look like we'll be seeing a new rotary car anytime soon so perhaps a sports coupe might actually be more plausible for them.

I've been more serious and calling around for details. Most of the dealerships are asking between $500 and $1000 for non-refundable deposits. They still don't have pricing set, but you have to order exactly the car you want, and they build it. Believe it or not, the dealerships for the most part aren't charging over MSRP. The Subaru dealerships are typically getting between 4 and 15 BRZ's for the entire year. The one local to me is getting 8 total, and has 2 spots left for the pre-order. They opened up the pre-orders on March 1.

 

From what I've been hearing, people may be in for a rude awakening when pricing is actually announced and this thing approaches 30k loaded. Some people seem to think Subaru backed themselves into a corner by hyping this as an affordable sports car and now they are stalling on releasing pricing, trying to get as much good press out about the car as possible before the backlash starts.
