Certain cars simply shine at higher speed rolls, and just aren't all that great in 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile. It reminds me of my 87 Starion. That car was never very fast in 1/4 mile and 0 to 60, but on highway, it was a force to be reckoned with, and can take out cars that in a 1/4 mile race would beat it without too much trouble. It's something to keep in mind when comparing various cars, because some cars are just tuned differently, and can shine in other aspects besides 1/4 mile. This is why I never look at 0 to 60 and 1/4 mile as a tell tale sign. One car can be falling off, while another is just getting warmed up, and in that case, you can be beaten, even though road tests show you have a slower 1/4 mile car.
The whole time I was reading this I was thinking about BMW 5 series or 7 series. Those things are heavy so their 1/4 mile and 0-60mph times suffer...but out on the freeway or the autobahn...damn!

If anything goes wrong, someone is going to die, and if you are unlucky enough to live your going to jail.

With that in mind, 0-60 is far more important than speeds above 100. Most roads with two lanes and a stoplight are 50mph zones, so hitting 60 is not that big a deal. So if you own an SRT-4 and call me out on speeds above 100 I would laugh in your face. It frightens me that people drive this fast on the street.

Well, there are certainly roads where you can reach speeds way beyond that, but yes it is illegal., but far from unusable. However, exhibition of speed is a law that is highly enforced where I live. If I were to run my STI to 60mph as fast as I can off a toll booth or traffic light and a cop saw me, I'd be getting just as fat of a reckless driving ticket as if he caught me doing 110mph down the freeway. It happened to a friend of mine in his Grand National. The funny thing is I find street racing from traffic lights even more dangerous then open road high speed racing. You see more cars, and have less width. A lot of times people are afraid to race at those speeds, so they will laugh as a way of saying NO WAY IN HELL AM I TRYING THAT, and I certainly can't blame them because street racing of any kind is unsafe, whether it's high speed, or high acceleration.

While it is true that excessive acceleration can land you a ticket, it’s less likely to do so than 100+ on a highway. The real issue here is safety and not tickets, if you race you’re going to have to live with tickets. Perhaps the most dangerous part about the 100+ is that no one expects you to be moving that fast. Therefore people changing lanes or merging may do so without realizing how quickly you’re moving. Furthermore, stopping and maneuvering at those speeds is not possible.

When a road is designed for 50 or 60 people expect you to be moving that quickly, so you’re less likely to surprise them. Stopping and swerving at 60 and below is also a whole lot easier.

It just shocks me to hear about people racing their cars at such high rates of speed. It just furthers my opinion that some of the people driving cars like the SRT-4 need their heads examined. Ethically, Dodge should stop making cars like the SRT-4, they know who buys them, and they also know kids are going to die in them.

I certainly agree. I guess I can't resist the challenge, but I am not careless. I won't do any lane changes at those kinds of speeds, but it's unfortunate I see many people doing it. I admit on my ride home very early in morning when there is an open road and nothing in site, I can't help but open up my STI. The RX8 is less enticing, because it just doesn't hit those speeds like the STI. You can find yourself doing 100mph before you even know it, or without trying. This is why it's a bad idea for parents to buy their kids cars with this kind of power.
