Talking Mazda X Series

So I've bought myself an 8. Sadly the 'R' and the '-8' fell off the back of the car (but I tell everyone it was an intentional debadge) so really I'm just left with a Mazda X. So... more about my X

Early 2004 came with 40,000 on the clock and drives... quickly.
I've been an anon on the forum for a while and decided TODAY IS THE DAY I get an account and be cool and whatnot.

I've got to say, I love the sense of humour around here and the knowledge is incredible. I've taken a lot in and before driving my X I sat here and tried to learn what not to do. Basically don't drive like a d*kked and life will be good. Oh and high revs are a good thing... I can never explain that to people as well as this forum can... especially when they're screaming SLOW DOWN.

My first full cleaning off my car will happen at the end of this month. Working full time and all leaveth for no time to clean my X.

OH. I'm a first time driver (but this is my second car). At the time I'd had my license for 5 months and I'm well under 25.
I bought this car for the handling more than anything. My driving instructor was an ex racing driver and I spent a good 100 hours behind the wheel with him and althought I didn't feel ready for an X I did want to just go ahead and throw my insurance money into a fireplace anyway.

Mods:
I have no mods BUT I would very much like to upgrade my head unit and put lambo doors on my X... because... just because.
Maaaaybe a subtle spoiler but no body kit... this car is gorgeous.

I would really like some interiour lights if I'm honest. Oh, I also travel with a 3ft giant panda teddy bear in the car with me because... (sh)

LASTLY
I was reading up on a 1 series and I thought I was on this forum but I was actually on the 1 series forum and they were all the sh*tting on the 8. And I completely agreed with them. Several times I've wanted to discuss these points with a bmw driver right before the lights go green but I always seem to leave them at the lights... funny that. 'yh m8 dis car goes wai quicker in a srt8 line m8. germayne engine' ...

Hello all pleasure driving the same car as you all.

welcome ! you sound like you have read the new owner's thread. If not, here is the link and maintenance schedule.

https://www.rx8club.com/new-member-f...t-here-202454/

RX8 Club’s recommended maintenance schedule, more comprehensive and proactive than Mazda’s schedule.

30,000 miles:
- Replace Ignition coils
- Replace Plug wires
- Replace Spark plugs
- Clean MAF (mass air flow sensor)
- Clean ESS (e-shaft sensor)
- Reset ESS profile
- Clean power steering connections
- Clean battery terminals and clamps
- Replace transmission fluid
- Replace coolant (Mazda FL-22 is highly recommended)
- Replace air filter
- Replace brake fluid (fluid in the brake lines AND the clutch line)
~$300 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

every 60,000:
...all 30,000, plus...
- Clean all chassis electrical grounding points
- Replace accessory belts
- Clean OMP lines
- Replace rear differential fluid
- Replace thermostat
- Clean / Straighten AC condenser fins
- Clean / Straighten oil cooler fins
- Inspect catalytic converter
- Clean / Inspect intake valving
- Consider / inspect all points in 90,000+ as well, many items fail early
~$130 USD in parts if you shop smartly.

90,000:
...all 30,000, plus any 60,000 not yet done, plus...
- Replace coolant bottle
- Replace radiator hoses
- Replace radiator
- Replace front O2 sensor
- Replace motor mounts
- Inspect clutch pedal assembly for flex / weld breaks
~$900 USD in parts if you shop smartly.
At 100k, anything original in the cooling system is really suspect and failure prone. It represents the biggest threat to your engine.
