smoking and backfiring

ok i just put a turbo in my r8 about 3 weeks ago.... ive had it tuned right the only thing is i haven't put a new fuel pump and fuel injectors in yet. im wondering if that would cause grey smoke and back firing or what would cause that. how can i fix the backfiring and the smoke. when it smokes it only smokes just a little bit and it when you crank it up and it backfires everytime you let off the gas. sometimes its loud and sometimes it doesnt backfire at all. help me please i need ideas

what PSI?
the Greddy kit shouldn't be maxxing out your stock parts. The fuel pump and injectors should be able to handle it. (fuel pump definitely, injectors you can choose to swap as many people do)

the smoke is most likely because you're running really rich. (too much fuel)
I'd go back to the tuner with your issues and have him work on your fuel maps a bit.

Boost controller?

12psi in a Greddy kit is likely asking for it......

Stick to about 8PSI ........the Turbo can't handle much more than that anyway

no 12 psi on the injectors 8.7 max on the turbo but my boost is all over the place from 2cd gear on up to 5th gear and they told me not to push my car past 4th gear past 7 grand becuz i risk detonation since my injectors are already maxed

Here are a few threads with LOTS of great info:

Definitive Greddy Turbo Fixes

Emanage works but there are much better options out there such as the AccessPort. (it's not a piggyback, it completely reflashes your OEM pcm) Here is a thread on the emanage in case you stick with it

12-1 AFR?...Fuel pressure is close to 60PSI at the injectors. Might be a touch lean at WOT

Me thinks a bit of reading is due...so you don't have a ton of problems.

Get a boost controller..it will even things out and make it more drivable.

Turn down your boost. Get rid of the piggy back. Buy an Access Port to control the A/F, timing ect..
