Last year I posted an article on this subject. You are correct. They do work at home and remotely access the team servers to run their simulations and design changes.

Who should partner Alonso at Ferrari?
Ferrari has a problem. Although Fernando Alonso leads the drivers' world championship by 40 points, the team is 57 points off the pace in the constructors' championship. Last year, Felipe Massa scored just 45% of Alonso's total; this year, so far, he stands at 15%. It all adds up to a new driver for 2013. But who?

GP of the Americas Update

First layer of tarmac 'married' at COTA
The first layer of tarmac has been laid at the Circuit of the Americas ahead of the return of the US Grand Prix to the calendar in November.

The circuit outside Austin has been making steady progress since construction halted over the winter due to a contractual dispute. The process known as "marrying the track" was completed last week as strip of tarmac was laid on the pit straight.

Organisers for the returning United States Grand Prix have announced that a music concert will be taking place on the November weekend. The race is likely to be vital in the 2012 championship, hosting the penultimate meeting of the season before Brazil.

Agreed on both counts. The problem Maldonado has is that the other great "crashers" are legends. Senna, Schumacher and even though not a legend yet, Hamilton all are champions. Sure they've gotten penalties and suspensions and fines (deserved or not) but their records speak for themselves. Maldonado although fun to watch, has no reputation to fall back on and if he doesn't calm down a little (crashing during a demo says it all) then his career might be short lived. I like him though. He's my kinda racer. I don't care for the Prost, button, coulthard, hill type drivers. I like aggressive risk takers. Like ayrton senna said "if you no longer go for a gap that exists, you are no longer racing"

Oh and the senna documentary has been on Netflix for ages ;-)

One of my Skip Barber racing school instructors called me a crasher because I tried to go between a couple of rubber cones, at speed, and clipped one. They were placed there to slow us down.

This may not mean much to you, but it does to me.

Hewland Engineering founder Mike Hewland dies aged 89
Mike Hewland, founder of the Hewland Engineering company that became synonymous with motorsport transmission technology, has died at the age of 89.

Formed in 1957, Hewland Engineering's first Formula 1 involvement was altering a gearbox for the British Racing Partnership team, before the company really made its name in Formula Junior.

From there, the Hewland business grew to such an extent that for much of the 1960s, 70s and 80s, almost the entire F1 field ran its gearboxes, with Ferrari the only exception for a long period. The package of a Cosworth DFV engine mated to a Hewland gearbox dominated most of the era.

Mike Hewland retired in 1991, with his son William taking over at the helm of Hewland Engineering.

Petrov to quit F1?
Vitaly Petrov's manager has raised questions about the Russian's future in the sport unless he is able to generate more support in his home country.

Petrov has spoken of his desire to remain in F1 amidst fears over his place at Caterham, with the Norfolk outfit yet to announce either of their drivers for 2013.

New Jersey race will be 'like a three-day Super Bowl'
Organisers of the Grand Prix of America are hoping to put on a show akin to the NFL's Super Bowl when next year's race takes place in New Jersey.

The 3.2-mile circuit will be built in the districts of Weehawken and West New York with the Manhattan skyline as a backdrop. Chief Operations Officer Dennis Robinson is hoping the size and scale of the event will rival the biggest sporting events in the USA.

What a start! Grosjean made a maneuver that caused a big pile up. I would have loved to see what Perez could have done.

Vettel is driving a beastly race. Schumacher made a very dangerous move on him though but everyone was unscathed.

Massa should have finished higher. It seems he is back to his old ways.
The tire strategy for MS was all wrong. He should have had a podium finish.
No ruling on Maldonado's start?

What an athlete, Jenson Button! When he likes his car, he makes no mistakes. Vettel sure can push hard even though he wines and complains to his team all the time. Good job from Kimi as well.

Other than maybe a closed runway, I would have a hard time even trying something close to that.

Grosjean handed one-race ban
Romain Grosjean will have to watch the Italian GP from the sidelines after he was hit with a ban and a fine for causing the first-lap carnage in Belgium.

Having started eighth on the grid, the Lotus driver put the squeeze on Lewis Hamilton's McLaren on the approach for La Source and that triggered a major pile-up on the first corner.

Both Grosjean and Hamilton were forced to retire along with Sergio Perez of Sauber and Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who was lucky to escape serious injury after the airborne Lotus went flying just a few inches past his head.

Closed cockpits a "Must?" Nando is fine and Massa was unlucky 4 years ago.
I definitely don't see them as a must.

I'd revoke grosjean's license. 7 crashes in 12 races...
