Wheels might be, but they always oversize wheels on concept cars.

As was pointed out before, taking the pixel width of the wheel on the side shot, calling that 21 inches since we know the tire size, and using that as a "ruler" to measure the car, it's roughly the same size as our RX-8.

the wheels are 21. a little comparison from one wheel to next is a little less than 5 1/4 "wheel lengths" gives it 110ish inch wheelbase. RX-8s is 106.4 , Mazda 6 is 109.8 sooo the Shinari isn't as big as it may appear in some pics. Its a mid-size not a full aize

Here are my thoughts on it:

It is sexy as hell. It is by far the most beautiful thing that Mazda has ever designed and even makes the 3rd gen RX-7 look ugly by comparison which is quite hard to do.

It has rotary influences all over it. The hood being a good indicator.

The quick sound clip in that video sounds very rotaryish to me just a little deeper which is what you'd expect a larger rotary to sound like.

The 16X is going to have a lower redline than the Renesis so seeing a 7K redline with an 8K peak is not surprising. Go look at the redline's on the RX-7's. Not all of them went to 9K.

The engine outline on the instrument cluster doesn't look like a rotary in profile. It looks more like a 4 cylinder. Interesting considering the rotary design cues.

As far as a lack of oil cooler vents go, see the older RX-7's. Only the 3rd gen had oil coolers on the sides with their own vents. The rest had the oil cooler in front of and below the radiator breathing through the same grille opening. Something similar or ducts could be used to cool an oil cooler(s) through one opening. Remember, this is a concept car. If it made it to production many things would change and venting could be one of them.

The people that say 270 or even 300 hp is too little for this car crack me up and are no different than any other idiot in the history of the rotary that complained about what the engine could do ON PAPER. Keep in mind you already drive heavy 220 hp rotaries now so if this car had anywhere near 270 or better yet 300 hp, it will walk all over the RX-8 like it was going backwards. They aren't trying to build heavier cars either so you know that if this gets to production, if it were a new RX-8, it will be lighter than the current one, and if it is a 2 seater that is more like an RX-7, it will be even lighter still. It will be quite quick. Some people may like their 400+ HP Dodge Hemi engines but it's sad that in those heavy 4000+ lb cars that they are still only in the 13's. A sub 3000 lb car with 300 hp would keep up all day and handle better doing it. Get over the numbers. Mazda has never built a 300 hp car and even they admit that pure power isn't what they are about.

^ RG .. you say it all right there... It's going to be beautiful, just like the RX-8, but moreso...it will be lighter, we know that...Mazda has promised....and it may be more powerful, we all pray for that. But whatever the case, I'd take it over any 400+hp behemoth anyday.

I read a report that this is to be a replacement for the Mazda 6. It was the next RX car that was to be lighter.

Question of the day: Will the rumored specs be competitive by the supposed 2015 deadline? The 370 will be 7 years old by then. Obviously the 370 has some drawbacks at this point, but after 7 years it should be a pretty solid platform.

Okay.

My 2 cents:

It's only a concept at this time and it's purpose (As far as they are willing to reveal) is only to illustrate design direction for their entire line.

That being said, it sure does have an advanced (Toward production) look to it. It appears like it is rear wheel drive including the dash display showing the engine. It is not far from the dimensions of an RX8 replacement and it's right on time as well. The RX8 needs to grow up and become more sophisticated (IMO) and this covers that angle well; much better interior quality, more chrome in the right places etc. I've always thought the RX8 should be playing ball with the Lexus IS and BMW3 series. I think Shinari is quite attractive and while I see design cues that remind me of other makes it has much Mazda heritage and it's own character as well.

Do I wish that this is an early concept for a new rotary sedan? You better believe I do. My fingers are crossed regarding 16x R&D.

By the way, another excellent Mazda concept is coming in the future but that's all I am willing or capable of saying at this time .

Paul.

Now you've done it! You just can't say you know something and not give us anymore than that! Tell us SOMETHING, but don't spill the beans....

i must admit that the new style of Maeda is more "production oriented"...this car dont seems a MY2035 car like any Nagare concept.

more interesting for the near future.....inside is one of the best Mazda EVER (concept or production).

the platform its sitting on appears to be the newest platform that will be used for the 6 as well as everything from the 3- the cx-9 as its purposefully made modular. they are even trying to fit it under the 2. in C/D segment configuration(6) they said it is 100kg lighter than the current 6 platform

Can you at least hint at how close in the future? I could tell you that there's going to be an excellent concept in the next 50 years and probably be correct lol.

I guess if you already know about it, it's probably well under way and potentially close to being ready for presentation, so I guess that might be somewhat of an indicator.
