Mazda Shinari a no-show
Posted 10:08 am U.S. ET, Sept. 30

After three years of hyping the scalloped sheet metal of its "Nagare," or "flow," design language, Mazda drove a stake through its heart with the departure of chief designer Laurens van den Acker.
The "Shinari" design language of new chief designer Ikuo Maeda may not make it out of the gate.
Teased three weeks ago in Italy, the intended Paris show car never made it to the stand. A Mazda source said "the company decided not to bring it to Paris." When pressed as to whether it was due to negative reaction from the media at the Shinari's preview, there was a subtle nod and smile. Long live the king?

just one question...where are the "negative comments", Mr. Mark Rechtin..?

proper automotive journalist have written that Shinari will NOT be displayed at Paris since the 1st and 2nd of september ....you are misinformed...,)

http://www.evo.co.uk/news/evonews/25...i_concept.html

citation: "But this one, unveiled at an exclusive private viewing in Milan and not destined to appear at the Paris Motorshow,"

http://www.carmagazine.co.uk/News/Se...cial-pictures/
citation: "The Shinari won't be shown at the 2010 Paris motor show (apparently it's being held back for a 2011 Geneva debut), yet this is a landmark concept for Mazda design, under the new leadership of chief design Ikuo Maeda."

For the Journo's at the Milan event (GoAuto Australia), they were told it Would NOT be shown at Paris MS...

I posted that here also..

So, anything else reported, Including Evo have just "assumed" the Shinari would be there in Paris, Mazda Officially said it would not...right at the start.

That's pretty strange for Mark Rechtin. He's had the Mazda beat for years and is actually well informed about what s going on in the company.

I'll admit, I was a bit disappointed to not see it at Sevenstock.

Of course, I didn't realize that it wasn't there, and that I was disappointed about it, until after I got home a week later...

...so it's all good

This is what I have about Mazda and Paris MS..

"Mazda presents the European premiere of the new facelift version of the current Mazda2 at this year’s Paris Motor Show with many updates meant to make the 2008 World Car of the Year even more appealing. The recently-launched second-generation Mazda5 and the current Mazda3 are also a focus in Paris, both with updated common-rail diesel versions delivering reductions in fuel consumption, CO2 emissions, and Euro 5 compliance. The stand will also have detailed information about Mazda’s eco-friendly SKY Technologies, which will see global roll-out in the near future."

What a load Of BULLSHIT...There has been NO NEGATIVE REACTION from the "Media"...

Jeez, they will say anything to promote their perceived "importance"...was Marky boy actually In Milan??...not from what I hear...and Autonews were very late reporting this...after it was leaked...

I see, I answered my own question as it was a Canadian who leaked it while under an embargo, this from my Mazda Australia source.

Marky did not get the "Scoop"..

Mark is in Paris at the show. Thats how he interpreted the answer from the person he was talking to.

Mind you I dont understand what negative reaction he is asking about either. But you guys are being a little harsh to a guy who has helped us out in the past and helped keep us informed.

I see clear Nagare design influence here...especially in the rear 3/4 view. I think this is a good thing. 'Pears to me that they have fully investigated Nagare and taken the best of it on into the next stage: Kodo. I think it would be a waste to have thrown out the good aspects of Nagare for something totally different.

I've had my '04 RX-8 seven years this month. As much fun as it is to drive, I am ready for a slightly larger vehicle. The Shinari appears to be a good direction, as long as it is still a fun-to-drive car and not ridiculously expensive. The talk of upgrading interior quality makes it sound like they are moving up-market price-wise.

BTW - The Shinari concept has a proper Mazda grill...not the Mazda3 ****-eating-grin front end. Whoever was behind that abomination should have been shot.

As you have revived this aging thread, I have to say you are keen in your observation. They did not discard everything Nagare. You should be careful not to think that Shinari indicates anything specific about any upcoming model. Mazda may or may not create anything larger than their current crop of vehicles and right now they are heavily focused on weight reduction so I would not count on size increase.

Paul.
