from autonews.com
Mazda uses Shinari concept to show brand's future design Jason Stein Automotive News Europe -- August 30, 2010 12:00 CET UPDATED: Aug. 30 13:20 CET Mazda's future face features an aluminum signature wing. MILAN, Italy -- Mazda unveiled the Shinari sports coupe Monday, a four-door concept car that indicates the future design direction for the Japanese brand. The coupe shows the future face of Mazda's family of vehicles -- an aluminum signature wing -- as well as the overall styling trend for future production models. Mazda will use the word Kodo, Japanese for soul of motion, to describe its future design language. Mazda executives declined to say when the new design would appear on production vehicles. However, "this design will lead to the next generation of Mazda design and will lead to other elements," said Ikuo Maeda, general manager of Mazda Motor Corp.'s design division, at a press event near Milan. Mazda's design studios in Germany, the U.S. and Japan collaborated to create the look of the Shinari. The design language was created through a collaberation involving Mazda's styling studios in Germany, the United States and Japan. Mazda also said it is working to improve the quality level of its interiors for future vehicles. "We want to play in the same group as BMW and Audi," said Derek Jenkins, director of design for Mazda North America. "On fit and finish we want the same level of quality." http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/1086/bildeni.jpg http://img839.imageshack.us/img839/8270/bilde1i.jpg EDIT: added hi-res official pics http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/5...ashinari01.jpg http://img101.imageshack.us/img101/9...ashinari02.jpg http://img340.imageshack.us/img340/4...ashinari03.jpg Just some comments: 1)still a bit disappointed for don't having a "more near-production " concept 2)the new design direction is very interesting 3) the more upscale placement is a good idea...but needs SUPPORT (media, involment in sports..etc...) |
wow, that looks sick!! i love it. i love the lines of the grill and how they help form the lines of the headlights. put the 16x in that thing and sign me up!!
the side shot reminds me a little of the bmw gran coupe concept. awesome. |
Looks like it could have a V12 under the hood.. Daym
|
that front end is huge! I love it
|
aston martin rapide? anyone?
this looks great. much more promise than the stupid smiley faces of the last design scheme |
looks even better with the updated pics!! WOW.
love the rotor indention in the hood too! :yesnod: |
I do like the lower section of the front bumper but love the rest of the car!
|
My fiance said she'll take one:)
|
Literally said OH SHIT. Great news and love their new styling over the old flow.

So this is suppose to be more of a replacement to the 6 right?
|
|
Yes this definitly looks better then the "grin". The concept looks very close to the lines and portions of the Fisker sedan. I could see this be wrapped into a coupe body with a style similar to the Farrari California.
|
looks to much like a fisker copy to me
|
I thought Aston Martin myself, which is a good thing, in addition to:

busy bee, my work is sending me all over the world nowadays...

first thought of mine as far as comparison was Tesla S and Fisker because of the roof line of the concept drawings. In the flesh it looks more fisker or rapide. Maserati. The fact that its being compared to these other designs is a good thing :)
I love the overall design. First thought of the real pics- Here come th ANGY EYES and Its a Hatch!!. The bumper is of course concepty but the flying wing to meld the grill to the line of the headlights is very cool. cut some holes in the grille for oil coolers and put the 16x in there and call it the RX-9. hmmm where is the CX-5, Matt? |
Concept cars are always busy. They strive to show what a manufacturer could do for mostly marketing hype. Thankfully sanity, and producibility, ultimately prevail .... for the most part.

Do you guys see the Kabura influences ? :)
|
I dont like this car.
Overall the car looks big--i dont like hatchbacks--the mirrors could cut you in half and that front end only a mother could love. Rear end looks good except for the exhaust pipes. If its a rotary the pipes will melt the very close plastic. That Maxda emblem is much too big---reminds me of the way GMC does their SUVS. Long hood will make parking and steering more of a guessing game? This cant be a RX* replacement. Looks too heavy, too big and too much luxury. Mazda doesnt have an engine to power a big car like this at the performance level BMW etc are doing. Fail. OD |

I love the idea of a better sports sedan. This car has an aggressive and classy feel to it.
