[QUOTE=Im_DANomite]

you're an idiot for thinkin' the mini is, in any way, BMW's Geo. BMW is german, MINI is british. MINI is just being sold through BMW. there might be some components that have the BMW label, but it is definately NOT a BMW.
QUOTE]

You obviously didnt get the joke. Bmw owns mini. Kinda like how chevy owns geo (if the company even still exists). The mini is a two door hatch, much cheaper than anything BMW makes. Kinda like, you guessed it, the Geo, a motsly a two door hacth, cheaper than anything chevy makes. (cheap as in price. all GM cars are equally cheap in quality)

At least for me, I'm not upset at all. I just disagree with his reasoning.

ie he doesn't like the 8 because of money issues (gas mileage), dents, and reliability. he wants to trade in for a mini which would cost a fair chunk of money out of his pocket (which defeats the money issue part), the mini dents just like the rx-8, and consumer reports has the mini at the same reliability as the rx-8.

basically he should've just said "i'm bored of the 8 and i want a new car!" then it's not so bad. also saying that the mini is safer annoys people i think. :D

personally, i like the mini. i would say go ahead and get it if he likes it. just don't try to justify it using really bad reasons. also he DOES come off as a spoiled kid (ie "i have so much money/my parents will pay for it so i can swap cars when i feel like it.") there's nothing wrong with that but it does make people who aren't in the same situation jealous. like i'm jealous i can't swap cars when i feel like it.

2. Why does he feel the need to post about trading in his car? If he wants feedback about the mini, couldn't he maybe post in a less inflammatory manner?

3. Has he done a cost analysis of gas savings vs increased payments? At this point in the life of his car, he could be very deep in the tub and the payments might be exceptionally high, outweighing the decreased gas costs.

4. Again, why is everyone so upset? The 8 isn't for everyone... don't we all know this?

Anyway, this is what I was going to say when I initially read his post:

"Good luck on the mini... You might want to make sure that you'll actually be saving money with the trade, though..."

See my previous post. He has a history of this, and I suspect people are just tired of hearing this type of thing.

Like people said already, most of his threads whine about how lousy our cars are... then in this thread says that this thing is bad, that thing is bad, etc etc... most of which comes with any car.

On top of all that he didn't even pay for the car... so that nullifies #1.. Gas $80?

Can't wait until he reaches the REAL world and sees that he'll be complaining more about other expenses besides blaming the 8 for the $80 gas.

He "could" be like some of the hard working students out there at his age, accept a dinky small used car, get to school, study hard, pay his own way, etc etc... But all we get are Whining and more spoiled attitude.

I find it humorous that alot of you complain about resale. Fact of the matter is cars DEPRECIATE, and they depreciate the most within the first year. Give it a few years, and resale will be on par or above average for a car of that age.

If you reread the thread, no one complained about the resale value... I'm sure most people that buy cars know it's not an investment. Someone just mentioned to eclips0 that with his whimsical behavior of switching cars, it's not going to be an easy habit to do. It's going to cost him quite a bit if he plans on switching cars ever other year... let me rephrase that. It will cost a lot to his parents if he plans to switch vehicles.

IF you read the original post, he was crying about his resale value.

I agree...some of us hard working students worked night and day for a car they wanted instead of the dinky small used car. But kudos to all who make sacrafices...eventually you'll be rewarded.

When I was looking for a new car I mentioned the Mini to my girlfriend at the time. She immediately shot it down. When I asked her why she told me to ask her roommate. So the next time I was at her house I brought up the question. This is his exact response, "Oh hon. Why would want a MINI? It's a gay man's car. I want one!"

To this day I can't look at the MINIs the same way.

Man

I thought this was a nice group of people that they would support me etc. I have been in this club for more than 2 years. Honestly alot of you guys are pathetic except the guys that are supporting me) How many of you actually drove the mini?.

Ok i will tell you how much i owe on the rx8.......NOthing it is paid off why u ask i had a eclipse which was a lemon and i sued mitsubishi and put money dow for the rx8. Don't get me wrong i love the car but i don't want to part halve the money i make into my gas tank. I have a cell phone bill, credit card bills, and trying to safe up so i can travel when i get out of school.

I am very lucky that i have the parents that i have, they support me when i need them and if i need help any way or final help they will have my back.

I really don't get what the problem is it is my FU-KING car on this forum everyone needs each others approval to do anything.

Yeah the rx8 is drop dead beautiful but its community is nothing to be proud of ( it has exceptions though) The MINI community are nice people they are not bitchy or arrogant or even walking with a pole up there Bum.

ok if you guys dont like the mini i can careless i just wanted to say what i might do with my rx8, maybe is you guys were more like the MIni boards everyone would be happy, Or maybe everyone is denial about the great gas milage. I really dont know

I just want you guys to know everyone that called me names etc can go F themselves and you guys just lost a member of this forum......

Good job guys maybe u can set a record for members leaving.

I am a hard working student i have been payoing my way for a long time i was lucky enough to get help from my parents with the car but everything else you see i payed for.

I love this damm car whta are you who says that you know me, you dont u have no idea what this car has put me through. I never said the rx8 is less safe. Teh mini is pretty damm safe for a small car. It prob is safer then a miata

Actually...you did. On page 2:

"The mini is a very safe car by the way if not safer than the rx8".

You have no idea what you're talking about.

Had you read my post on page 3, you would see that the Mini scores a 'marginal' crash rating, while the RX8 recieves good. Please don't post things when you are oblivious to the facts:

MINI: http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_rat.../head_mini.htm

RX8 (at bottom): http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_rat...head_mazda.htm
