Yeah it doesn't look like the mini has much, if any, crumple zones. I guess the entire body is one big crumple zone?

Good luck on the Mini. I have seen the chip you can get for the Mini Cooper S from John Cooper Mini Works and that will get that little car flying. Also a terrific handling car. Most of the quality control problems I have heard about is from when they were first released, as this happens with many new cars.

1. What MPG are you getting? I am getting 15 no matter how i drive.. i said 15 it should fricken perform like a viper or let alone a new vette

2. Would u smile whenu have to pay 80 dollars a week becuase it gets crappy as gas per gallon, To get the 15 i posted i have to shift at 3,000 or lower. would shifting at 3000 rpms make you smile, i think not.

3. I am a picky person, with the dings and key mark it makes the last thread of love for this car go down teh crapper. why u ask because i will put more money into the damm car. If i am so unhappy with it why bothering fixing it.

4. No the clutch is because mazda wanted to cut corners and the consumer gets left with the problems.

5. Ahh ac is great alot better than the rx8s yes u are righjt i am going to go from an rx8 with Big problems to a car with MINI problems :D

The mini is a very safe car by the way if not safer than the rx8

1) BS, rotaries have always been notorious for below average mpg. You should of known this b4 buying.

2)Your a Retard

3)You deserved it! Sounds like your just upset about this and this is the true reason why you don't want the car. Pathetic.

4)Maybe you should learn how to drive stick.

5)Hmmm no problem with mine but maybe just maybe your car hates you!

6)Good riddens, I am happy for you. just know that you're a turd driving another turd

It's not just a chip from John Cooper Mini Works, you need their supercharger kit, too to get the extra power.

I'm sure he'll be at least as happy with the Mini as he is with his 8...

He is also confused on the Mini being safer than an RX8. According to the Highway Safety Council, the Mini received MARGINAL ratings for rear crashes, while the RX8 received a GOOD rating:

MINI: http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_rat.../head_mini.htm

RX8 (at bottom): http://www.hwysafety.org/vehicle_rat...head_mazda.htm

Like I said, have fun.....

Personally I think this is a dumb idea too.

Not because I think the RX-8 is that superior over the MINI but rather your reasons for switching aren't good enough unless of course you have a lot of money or someone else is paying for it. If that's the case though, then gas consumption shouldn't be an issue (unless someone bought you the car and is making you pay for gas).

So I'm assuming money is important. If money's important, why swap cars and take a big financial hit for it? Is the money you're going to lose by the swap easy to make up by the gas mileage difference between the cars? Going from a 18mpg car to a 40mpg car but having to pay 5K for it doesn't seem like a good idea unless you drive A LOT and are going to keep the car for a long time.

The other problems with your reasoning is
1) you'll get keys marks and dents in whatever car you drive. A MINI isn't immune from from them.
2) the clutch - if Mazda DID have a problem with their clutch you would think everyone on this forum past 30K miles would be complaining. It's likely you.
3) reliability - the rx-8 does have below average reliability. but if i'm not mistaken, consumer reports (which no matter what people say is pretty unbiased) rates the MINI at the same reliability as the RX-8. so sure you might get lucky and get a perfect MINI but your'e just as likely to get a messed up as a messed up RX-8.

Finally for gas mileage... I get ~16 mixed, even using most of the general advice given here. My current tank (will fill up tonight) is going to be pretty good though. I'm hoping for 19-20. What's different? This time I had a chunk more freeway but also I get into 6th gear asap and stay in 6th when just cruising. Also coasting in gear vs in neutral. Keeping revs down VERY low when driving on a cold engine.

It's kinda silly for him to complain about spending $80 a week for gas.. and then says he's going to sell it to get a Mini. Wouldn't the cost for a new mini or a trade go higher than simply 80 dollars a week?

Like I said, I'm really doubtful that he even paid for this car. He complains about the gas as if that's his ONLY payment for the car. He should see what his insurance would look like after a few tickets at age 20.

Just get a Mini, it seems like your heart is set on it. None of us are going to convince you otherwise. Just thank your parents to having the lattitude to keep buying you new cars when you get tired of it.

Btw, you still haven't answered whether you paid for the car or not. If it's your money go for it. If it's not, go for it. I think a Mini would be great for you... like you said, Saves gas, fun car, Fast as hell, TONS of Mods, All the fine chicks dig it. You can't go wrong with a Mini. Get the one with the British Flag also to show your pride.

Maybe I'm wrong, I don't know too much about Mini's, but the Coopser S comes with a supercharger.

Yeah, but to get any significant gains from a John Cooper Mini Works product, you'll need the Cooper S and their upgrade supercharger modifications

first off, what's with all the name calling?? don't be upset that he's getting rid of "our" beloved 8 for a mini. that is HIS choice, so i don't know why many of you are gettin' upset.

the mini isn't a bad car. it's actually very fun to drive. i personally do not like them b/c i see them everyday at work and deal w/ all the stupid problems. but what do you expect? i work at a dealership. anyways...

you're an idiot for thinkin' the mini is, in any way, BMW's Geo. BMW is german, MINI is british. MINI is just being sold through BMW. there might be some components that have the BMW label, but it is definately NOT a BMW.

also, why do you people assume his parents "spoil" him?? granted it does seem like it...but so what?? it's none of your business how he gets his cars, etc. etc.

just stop with the name callin' period, we're all mature adults here. please act like one.

Letting the clutch all the way out would get you a second or two in the 1/4 mile and in the slalom, and it would probably solve the mileage thing.

on a side note----MINI also shares the same warranty plan as BMWs. so in actuality, the MINI gets taken care of a lot better than Mazda.

I never called him any names. I still want to know why he thinks a mini is "safer" than an RX-8, though. It annoys me when people make statements like that without providing any proof whatsoever.

doesn't matter what car you get you'll always find something you hate it because you'll end up knowing it too good.

it annoys me as well. but i always say "silence is golden". just let them say what they want to say.

i honestly don't think the mini is "safer", but BMW has one of the best crash safety ratings. i don't see why they would sell an unsafe car under their very reputable name.

Off topic, but I wonder how safe those Smart cars are? I think I'd be scared shitless to drive in one of those, especially with the SUV population steadily increasing

very well said. just like most things in life, you'll get bored with it, find out all the little quirks, and move on to the next entertaining thing.

i bought a PSP last week, i'm already getting bored with it.
