Consequences of street racing

street racing has been around since the 50's (or one of those historic ages). it's never going to stop. and it doesn't matter how old you are, all of you have been in some type of street race. accidents will happen, sad reality, but it will happen. i don't see anything wrong with a little bit of fun on the streets, just gotta be smart about where, when, etc. etc. flying through a residential area is just retarded, racing through rush hour traffic is stupid, racing through intersections just doesn't seem like a good idea. now if it's 2 am on an empty highway and some punk rolls up next to me, it's on.

RX8pilot is right
I fully agree with RX8pilot, raising the driving age doesn't do anything but take away experiance you would gain getting your license at 16 instead of 18 or 21. Lets face it driving is like everything else you gain knowledge and wisdom through the experiance of doing it and if you change the driving age, to lets say 18, it would just make those 18 year olds just as inexperianced as a 16 year old. The whole maturaty with age thing that will probably be brought up is just a myth, being in the army has proved that to me. You get people that are in the military and are 18 and 21 and they still act like kids. Hell i have seen guys that are in their mid to late 20's that still act imature and irresponsible.

Parents
Some great points have been made on the subject, but as everything stands now the only effective deterrent to street racing is good parenting. The point was made that kids will race any car, and this is true. Kids can also buy parts to rice up their beater, so if you’re a parent and you can’t control what your kid is driving, then you need to install a device that keeps an eye on their driving habits. They sell devices that hook to the ECU, and record RPM’s and MPH. Otherwise these kids are on their own, and you have to hope that you instilled in them enough common sense to make the right decision.
All that being said, NO KID should be rolling around in an SRT-4, or a ZED, STI, RX-8 or EVO-8. If your kid wants one of these cars, then you must realize that they are going to take them racing.

Okay I haven't read the whole blog cause it's freakin 6 pages long, but im doind an essay on street racing in scholl at this moment. And i have made the conclusion that street racing is a stupid thing to do, but we will all do it anyways. Me for instance for the simple pleasure of getting the adreadiline rush of flying on a open highway at 160 mph. And please dot tell me that my parents are bad or any hard stories cause i have 14 pages written on this topic and i heard them all. So as you guys block your kids from driving you have to realize that if their not doing it them self they have freinds that will take them out for "FUN" rides...If you guys want your kids not to street race just dont give them a fast car, but don't amke htem pay for other teens stupid choices...

Sorry Rafa, everyone won't do it. Only stupid people, such as yourself. You don't need a fast car to drive like an ***. Go get your 'adreadiline' rush on a race track and drive responsibly on the street so no innocent people have to die because you're an idiot. And never race a Crossfire!

Have you heard the story about the kid that was street raceing a friend and hit a car and killed the occupents of the other car?.. It was his mom and sister in the car he hit. Live with that. Speed belongs on the track.

And i dont race in the middle of busy streets (enless someone roars there engine, lol jk) i usaully tend to race on the highway at middle of the night, to AVOID a accident...I do also go out to a track out in JOLIET (route 66 drag strip) but its a 65 dollar cahrge to race and its only on the weekends...
And for one of the guys that wrote "kids that drive cars they can't afford", dont try to pin that on me, i pay for my own gas, insurance, and my car, i didn't even get a loan from my dad. Unfortunetly its not a rx8, but some day ill get it, right now UTI emptyed out my wallet...

Guys, never argue with these kids, remember how you were at that age. They think the insurance companies and all us old folks are dumb. They will learn someday, hopefully by not killing someone or themselves, but they tend to mature later in life.

Rafa...I was you about 15 years ago. I had a '66 Barracuda with a 340ci. I never got caught or hurt anybody but I had more than my fair share of "spirited" driving experiences. One time I was street racing down one of the busiest steets in all of NorCal (called El Camino Real) on a Friday night against a buddy's Paxton supercharged 5.0 Mustang GT and another buddy's '65 Mustang with a 289ci. Two cops chased us by driving on the wrong side of the road for a half block. The guy in the GT got pulled over instead of me because I pulled into a driveway and cut the lights. The other Mustang pulled into a used car lot and somehow dodged the bullet. I had my girlfriend in the car too. Stupid. She would have been wrapped up in whatever I might have got myself into. So that was us. We would never drink and drive but somebody always had some green bud. We were a gold mine for a cop. So anyways my other buddy got a summer job and bought a beautuful '67 Camaro with a 396ci. It was fast. Faster than anything any of us had because the original owner was a 60 year old man who built it for a drag strip in Monterey that closed down shortly after he finished the car. It had pulled off like four or five 11 second passes before he handed the keys over to a 17 year old with cash and a lead foot. Beginning of the end. Like you, I always thought that there were plenty of good places and good times to street race if you used common sense. So we started going to this housing developement about a mile from our HS. All the roads were paved but the homes hadn't been built yet. There were times when we had 10 cars out there at lunch...DSM's, Mustangs, Camaros and old muscle cars like Novas, Dusters, and even a Rambler. My friend in the Camaro would always win so it got to the point that he would show off after the 1/4 we marked off by taking that thing up past 150mph AFTER the finish line. He didn't kill himself when he ran into the back of a construction truck but he broke his back, totaled his car, and spent every weekend his entire senior year picking up trash on the side of the freeway. The reason he couldn't serve his community service until his senior year is because he spent the rest of his junior year with a plastic brace on his back. To this day his back is still fucked up and he can't do anything active like snowboarding, basketball, etc. In the ultimate twist of irony, the only car he's been able to drive without his calves going numb is an old diesel Mercedes. I haven't talked to him in a few years but I gaurantee you that he would have posted the same kind of **** you did before he wrecked that Camaro.

Bummed, but bring on OU!
I've known no less than 7 people that have either died or become screwed up for life, because of street racing. 3 dead motorcylists, 1 screwed for life. A guy and his girlfriend both dead when he lost control of the car and wrapped it around a steel lamp post. And one motorcyclist who was not racing, but got t-boned by some jackass kid who was racing his buddy. He was very messed up for 2 years, and will never be able to talk right again. There's a couple others who weren't racing, but just out "thrill riding" and crashed their vehicles.
I have to admit, that I've done it a couple of times myself, back when I was young and stupid (didn't take me long to wise up). But nothing like the idiots today. 99% of all my drag racing was done at the dragstrip, where it was just me and the other guy at risk. But at least we both consented to taking those risks, and the conditions were as ideal for racing as you can get. There are too many unknowns on the street, even at 4 AM on a deserted highway. Potholes, re-tread, dogs, deer, etc. any of these will take you out at high speed. Then your family gets to lament, "I always thought he was a safe driver..." "I never knew..." etc
